There is a children's department with an area called the Lakeshore Cove. It has a replica of a six-foot alligator that kids can sit in and play learning games on the built-in video screen. The Lakeshore Cove also has a Smart Table. It is an interactive learning-style console that is really cool. Gone are the days of the Dewey Decimal system that most of us grew up with at our libraries. This library (like many others nationwide) switched over to the BISAC cataloging system which is what you see at your bookstores. No more numbers just categories. The interior has lots of comfy chairs and areas that encourage you to stay there longer than planned. Overall, a wonderful library that is very updated with lots of 21st century amenities and a great children's area. Love the look of the exterior now too!

It's two stories, very tidy, nice staff, multiple meeting rooms, and cool displays of both historical figures and modern entertainment. Outside tables, vending machines, a coffee machine, and a microwave are available right outside of the library for the public to use. Also, there's a book donation bin there that collects used books, DVDs, CDs, and Vinyls every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am to 1 pm which I used for my 2026 New Year cleaning. They do morning events for families, toddlers and big kids. Schedules are posted up front with times and dates. They have something for all ages which is good when you have three kids (one being a toddler and two being older) very friendly staff and plenty of parking. It's very peaceful here.

Luckily, the Slidell branch of the St. Tammany Parish Library is a really pleasant library that I feel so lucky to be able to use at my leisure. It is filled with natural sunlight thanks to the many floor to ceiling windows. It's large and there are countless tables to sit and study at a table and lots of comfy couches to sink into with the latest page turner. There are at least thirty computers here for you to use as well as copiers and fax machines. When you get a library card and use it to register for online access to the database you can then order, renew and place holds on a book or DVD that you'd like from the comfort of your own home. How cool is that? Of course, the summer reading program for children is always a fun and educational way to keep little ones entertained throughout the summer. It's always so nice and cool in the library in the scotching summer months. I realize that some people think libraries are dinosaurs these days with all of the advances in our modern times, but I would be very sad if I didn't have them around. Some days you just need to get lost in a book in the awesomeness that is the library. Try it sometime!

Frank greeted us when we walked in, and then shared the story of Faulkner's history in the building, a former boarding house. The bookstore is the room where Faulkner did his writing, and although small, has a well curated selection of books. Faulkner's books are highlighted on the center table, classics line the walls, a bookshelf of poetry is in the second room, and plenty of books on New Orleans culture are available.
