I LOVE THIS LIBRARY! It is a happy place of mine. It is not large by any means, but what it does…read morenot have, you can get from other libraries in Jefferson Parish sent here, which is cool. They have story time for the kiddos on weekdays, kid movies on Saturday mornings. Movies not geared to children are shown on Wednesday evenings. This is also a polling location during election days. I like how they have computers for the residents of the area available for use, and there is almost always an availability. They have a very cute kids area, with chairs and plastic animals. I like how there are several handicapped people who come in to use the computers and check out books. There are often study sessions of high school students, and a couple of high school students that volunteer here on the weekday afternoons. The free wi-fi is reliable and very good. The library staff are always friendly and helpful. The restrooms are always neat and clean. There are drop boxes in front for returning books when the library is closed. There are 2 handicapped spots in front of the library, and 4 regular spots. There is more parking immediately across the street. The lots are both clean and free from debris.

I love the changes that were made to this library. I rarely go to the library but that may change…read moresome after experiencing the wonderful changes at this branch. There is a children's department with an area called the Lakeshore Cove. It has a replica of a six-foot alligator that kids can sit in and play learning games on the built-in video screen. The Lakeshore Cove also has a Smart Table. It is an interactive learning-style console that is really cool. Gone are the days of the Dewey Decimal system that most of us grew up with at our libraries. This library (like many others nationwide) switched over to the BISAC cataloging system which is what you see at your bookstores. No more numbers just categories. The interior has lots of comfy chairs and areas that encourage you to stay there longer than planned. Overall, a wonderful library that is very updated with lots of 21st century amenities and a great children's area. Love the look of the exterior now too!

Right across from the gym I work out at, I will sometimes stop in here to get a movie or book. It…read moreis on the small side, and I felt too nervous to take any photos of the interior because it was SOOOOOOOO quiet inside. I wish I had known about this library when I was in school, this would have been an ideal place to come spread out and study. I do love a nice quiet place to study. As mentioned in a previous review, they do have small study rooms to use, which I love. The librarians are friendly, and I have never had an issue with anyone here. You can request items from other branches to be picked up here, which is nice. The parking lot is on the small side, but this is a small branch of the library. I really like coming here.

I wouldn't say my expectations were particularly high as I entered the building. It's a library…read more It's small. It's in Jefferson Parish. There's really not much more to say about Wagner Library, except for one cool discovery that I made in here. This library has tiny rooms with a desk, outlets, and a door. Between these private, underutilized spaces and the free wifi, I thought, "Hey, I could make this into an office." And that's what I did. All was moving along swimmingly. I was Yelping, I was Facebooking. I was Tweeting. And then I realized my office was lacking one crucial detail. I needed an assistant to bring me lattes and things. So I looked around, found the meekest looking person in that joint (not hard. this *is* a library), and started barking orders. "Thelma!" (Actually, I'm not sure what my assistant's name was, but I'm writing the checks here, so I can call her what I want, right? Well, technically, I'm not writing checks. Thelma is doing more of an internship, but this internship will be *great* experience (with college credit!), so I don't feel obligated to get into semantic arguments with you on this, ok? So anyway...) "Thelma, go get me a grande non-fat soy chai latte with a half shot of espresso extra hot...Thelma, go get me some of those Zuckerberg-style business cards that say 'I'm CEO, bitch' on them...Thelma, order me a gold-plated placard that says 'Do not disturb. Yelping in progress.'...Thelma, go get me some sexy panties for my date with Sergio tonight." Thelma did not budge. And that's where my experience at the Wagner Library went sour. You really cannot find good help these days. I offered this woman a huge opportunity to further her career and guess what? Nothing. The library was fine, my office was nice, but do not go to Wagner Library hoping to find a decent assistant.

This gorgeous library is a converted mansion that sits atop a hill on Saint Charles Avenue - if…read morethat wasn't all you needed to be convinced. I've only been a member for a short while, but in my experience the Latter Library staff is exceptionally friendly, the space is quiet and well-maintained, the wifi is reliable, and the book selection is great - everything from new releases to cookbooks, audiobooks, and books about New Orleans history and culture. On the lower floor, the original mansion rooms are largely unconverted and left true-to-style - you can sit and read on antique upholstered chairs at large oak tables, or walk about and admire the chandeliers and ceiling frescos. On the upper floor, however, are all your modern amenities - more organized shelving, help desk, clean bathrooms, computer lab, etc. In this way, Latter Library strikes a balance between being contemporarily functional in the community and being a historical relic in the neighborhood. Would recommend popping by and checking it out!

They got a seed library where we can check out three packs of seeds every day it's smaller than the main library of course and there's another uptown library that's a little larger, but it's bigger than the Avar library that's near my house. I recommend visiting each branch and checking out what they have you can also get ebooks thru Libby app.

Before you start reading my review, I would like to make a PSA. I actually got asked the other day…read moreif I was really reading a library book. Apparently they didn't realize libraries still exist. If you're like this person, stop what you're doing and get your butt over to a library right now! You'll be shocked at what you can read and watch for free! OK now for my review: Before Katrina, the Smith Branch was kinda creepy and antiquated looking. Now it's bright and modern and one of my most visited places in Lakeview since I'm an avid reader. This branch also provides workshops and lectures/seminars, which is a nice added touch and gets you involved in the community. I've only went to one Creative Writing Workshop, and it was extremely helpful. The library also has computers for you to use free of charge! If this library doesn't have what you're looking for, you can request it from another library and they'll ship it. It's a great service and they have pretty much anything, from books to movies (even current ones). Parking is limited so I suggest you ride your bike if you live in the area. There's ample bike parking by the Canal Blvd. entrance. This also gives me a reason to get some exercise in so I don't mind it. I hope you read this review and take advantage of the the resources the library provides to you. No sense in wasting your money at Barnes and Noble or on Netflix, when you can just go to the library and read and watch anything you want at no cost!
