I know what you're thinking. You see me posting a review of the social security office and you've got jokes. I get it. I'd make fun of you too you. But here's the thing. I ain't that old. Yet. So why did I go to the social security office if I'm not yelling get off my lawn and complaining about people speeding? So my kid needed to get a drivers license. That's right. An actual license to drive a car. My baby. What the eff? One of the requirements to get said license is proof of identity. Seriously OMV? Why would anyone pretend to be related to me? But themes the rules so we needed a copy of the kid's original social security card. And guess what? I couldn't find it. So we headed here. Twice. I figured the wait would be hours long and pure brutality. It wasn't. You walk in, check in on an electronic kiosk, and they call your number. The place was packed, but to get seen for a replacement card took like five to ten minutes. Why did I go twice? I didn't realize the kid needed a picture ID. Luckily for me a school ID with photo worked. So on the second try we were golden. Note: they don't actually print you a new card while you wait. They do give you an official letter that you can use to get a license though. And even though it's been over a month we still don't have the real card. But the kid does have a license. Sometimes a "Thank You" is not enough and that is what I am feeling this evening. I called the SSA office in Lacombe to check my benefits and found out that my wife and I had been receiving less than what we are entitled to. Now, I could have been angry or rude but the two ladies I spoke with were so helpful, kind, compassionate, and above all, patient with this senior citizen, that I had no cause for bad behavior. It was my neglect that cost us what we should have received and they explained it all in great detail and gave us a solution going forward that incorporated some recapture of lost benefits. They also gave us the new amounts for 2024 and helped us project future years as well. The government gets slammed all the time for lazy, incompetent, non-caring employees and it is a typical gross exaggeration. These two ladies should run the SSA and I hope they get recognized for staying on the phone past working hours to help two old people living on a fixed income. Without my hearing aid, it was hard to catch, but they know who they are-- the District Manager and Ms. Nobles??? If the SSA gives out awards for "Above and Beyond", there are no more deserving than these two! I ran several companies in my career and i would hire them in a New York Minute and watch them ascend to the top. SSA, you are darn lucky that I am retired or you would have two less employees in LaCombe come tomorrow. Blessing to these two. Big read more
