Pork steak (grilled and slathered in sauce an grilled again cooking in StL sweet BBQ) St Paul Sandwich (fried egg foo young patty on two slices of white bread some with vegetables or meats) Slinger (StL tradition with eggs, hash browns, and hamburger patty all covered with chili then onions and cheese) Thin crust pizza... as an appetizer if not used to it Toasted Ravioli (Deep fried and served with Marinara sauce) Gooey Butter Cake- far richer than you can imagine Frozen custard is decadence in what looks like soft serve ice cream, but much richer Jump in an don't count calories! Awesome bars/pubs. Worst part of St. Louis is the present day crime and the loss of jobs. We moved away after a plant closing and scarce employment opportunities. As a result, crime has escalated. It doesn't help the amount of people there feeding off the system and then causing turmoil in the streets. A real shame for the city.

It is the work of Harry Weber who completed the piece, which is made of bronze and sits 22 feet tall, in 2006 The 3.5 ton sculpture depicts explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark and their Newfoundland dog, Seaman. It is owned by the city of St Louis and was commissioned by the Greater St. Louis Community Foundation to commemorate the bicentennial of the explorers' return September 1806. According to Weber, it "took seven months of long hours to complete the structure in clay, make molds and reassemble it like a giant jigsaw puzzle. It is a nice sculpture and Weber does a great job encapsulating Lewis and Clark's feeling of accomplishment, sacrifice and pride. It is very detailed and well done. The viewer can really connect to the piece. The sculpture is designated a national Lewis and Clark site by the US Park Service and spending on how high the Mississippi River gets, sometimes the statue is submerged in the river. In 2014, the statue was removed and restored to repair damage it had received from the flood. In 2016, the statue was returned to the riverfront to a location slightly south and about 17 feet higher than before. Before it was moved, during a flood situation, it would look like the duo were sailing into shore Anyway, as with most sculptures that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 10 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. I would recommend checking out the Gateway Arch and Park while visiting this sculpture.

The Freedom Suits Memorial in St. Louis pays tribute to the hundreds of enslaved Missourians who…read morefought for their freedom through the courts. Between 1803 and 1863, nearly 400 individuals filed lawsuits based on the principle "Once free, always free." If taken to a free state or territory, even briefly, they could argue for their emancipation upon returning to Missouri. Saint Louis became a key battleground for these cases, thanks to anti-slavery lawyers who worked pro bono to challenge slavery through legal channels. Their efforts freed many, including Dred and Harriet Scott, whose case was later overturned in the 1857 Supreme Court decision that denied citizenship to Black Americans and inflamed tensions leading to the Civil War. Unveiled in 2022 outside the Civil Courts Building, the memorial features a 14-foot bronze sculpture by Preston Jackson. It stands on black granite and bears the names of 330 freedom suit plaintiffs. The piece is part of a $1 million initiative that includes a bronze plaque and an online educational platform. The memorial was inspired by court workers who rediscovered old case files in 2006. Judge David Mason formed a committee to honor this legacy, and in 2025, the site was added to the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. Commonly referred to as "U City" by locals, this community has a lot to offer…read more Home of the eclectic Delmar Loop where you can find eateries ranging from New York style pizza to Thai food. There are tons of boutiques as well as more well known establishments like Blueberry Hill, Vintage Vinyl Records, Starbucks, Cicero's, Pi Pizza, Mission Taco Joint, Piccione Pastry, The Pageant concert venue, United Provisions international grocer, Pin Up Bowl and now the Loop Trolley! There's so much more to U City but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Chinatown. It's a must see area on the northern end of University City that houses blocks of restaurants, shops and businesses. U City was always the place the be when I was growing up in St. Louis and today it's more enjoyable than ever.

However, she's forever in this walking stance and not getting anywhere. It's a lovely sculpture and Saint Louis has done well to include it with their public art. The caption in the sidewalk reads, "Donald Baechler. Walking Figure. (2003-2004). Bronze. Edition 1 of 3. On Loan From Gateway Foundation." Online, "Walking Figure poses motionless in front of the Gateway Foundation building, stuck forever in walking stance but never gaining any ground. The sprightly form reminds the viewer of a child's drawing of a human, with the arms and legs sticking out awkwardly from a square-like torso. The childish face of the figure grins shyly but contentedly with closed eyes as it towers above the heads of passersby, striding purposefully toward some unknown end. Christmas is not my favorite holiday but as usual, when it gets closer to the 25th I'm all about the decorations. Not at my house... we have a "glittering buck" with a missing ear and bent leg. But I digress. The lines were long if you wanted to go into the Penguin House or go along River's Edge so we didn't do that. We walked a lot...8,756 steps to be exact and saw a lot of lights...10,000,00... I'm kidding. I didn't count the lights. There were lots of special beverages and honestly the prices weren't terrible. All the s'more areas were being used by adorable families and it was great to hear all the laughter from the children. It was a magical time.

Parking can be limited and a bit tricky to find, and while the area is lively, it's worth staying aware of your surroundings, especially at night. Overall, Cherokee Street is a fun, diverse place for food and culture lovers. Just plan ahead for parking and stay mindful of your surroundings, and you'll have a great experience.
