A very nice combination of a hideaway and a basement in the middle of central London. I guess they really hit on something when they took the most out of the space. On a busy night expect it to feel cluttered but when you've had a couple of drinks and the live music has begun it really doesn't matter. Dance the night away! I saw there, one of the best blues bands, the lead singer, a lovely girl, had an amazing voice that sent goose bumps everywhere. And for the life of me I cannot remember their name and have been trying to find out ever since. We went there with eight friends of mine from uni and we were fortunate to sit on the big round table in one of the subsidiary rooms. Really intimate and private space, it was like going to someone's basement (paying a fiver) and having a private gig. Can get chilly in the round table room so have a light sweater on you. read more

St Moritz Club - Dance Clubs Near Me - London, XGL

I love this place, it's dark, dingy and fabulous! The club itself consists of a series of basement rooms, none of which are particularly welcoming for a claustrophobic, with narrow, short doorways/corridors linking them all. As soon as you get in (downstairs) you arrive in the bar area and to one direction are some seating areas and to the other is the dance-floor/DJ area. I have been to some different nights but the best night of the week to go (for me) is saturday - hard rock (80's hair metal) until 3:30am. Pure bliss. Entry costs about £5 and the doors don't open until 10pm but my advice would be to get there around 12-1am as that is usually when the party is in full swing. So be prepared to don your leather, denim or spandex (or more regular attire, whatever you're most comfortable with), sit at the same tables that the rock 'n' roll faithful have been at for the past few decades and dance through the night on the intimate floor space (with top-quality sound I'll add). Gaz's Rockin' Blues on a Thursday night. Totally overpriced and very pretentious. If you enjoy sitting on an inch of hard wood all night, being squashed, waiting ages for the bar and paying seven pounds for a gin and tonic I highly recommend it. If you like jazz it's a nice place to go but the dance floor consists of a metre wide space in front of a man playing the trumpet. read more

Thursday is Gaz Mayall night. Yay. Had so much fun! Really packed but the atmosphere was great- that's what good ska does to you- makes you forget you are surrounded by drunk teenagers. But the rest was super. The bartenders were awesome and efficient, lots of polite rude boys and entry only £7 (before 23.oo). Trays of choco eggs and party poppers for everybody on the house. You might have read my review of the St. Moritz restaurant, after being there several times and reading good stuff of the St. Moritz Club by you yelpers, I wanted to try it out with a group of university friends. Please do not make the same mistake like me and turn up there ready for party at 8pm. This club does not open before 10pm!!! Please bare this in mind, that might help you to have a party bummer. However, determined enough to find out about this place, I went with the girls at 10pm again, after already a couple of glasses of white wine. Of course the party had not started then, but that seemed not to bother us. We paid a 5er to get in and had a table for ourselves. Unfortunately they only have live music on a Thursday and Wednesday, so please check. However, the DJ played some good stuff, mostly Indie and Rock. We certainly had a good time dancing. I remember one of our friends wanted to leave but we got her back in again, dancing until 3.30am. I had the worst hangover ever the next day... Being not the number one clubbing person, I enjoyed myself very much and would call it more a bar then an actual club. I can guarantee you have a good time there and not too expensive either. read more

Gaz has been running his Thursday club night Gaz's Rocking Blues for over twenty years (he even ran it from prison) and it is as successful and fun now as it was when he first opened. Thursday nights at the St Moritz are a kind of rite of passage for teenagers in London- it is full of 18 year olds who have just discovered it and old-timers who have loyally stuck with the club due to its intimate atmosphere, excellent music and eclectic clientele. The circular table in the corner next to the loo is king- if you are lucky enough to get it when you first get there, stick down your coats and sit tight. read more

St Moritz club... where you can go on a Saturday night for a classic rock night, complete with 40+ yr old men with mullets, who definitely miss the 80's. One of the most fun nightclubs in the city, where the beer is basic, cold and you are surrounded by Swiss chalet iconery. Surreal, crazy and just damnably good times. I haven't had an off night there yet. Those who know, and go, are all a friendly bunch and all out to have an equally rockin' good time. I absolutely love this place! read more

I used to go here in the 80's when i was a teenager ,when bands like Guns and Roses and Bon Jovi would hang out when they were in town . Lemmy from Motorhead was always there playing pinball and would always leave with a couple of drunk girls ... I loved it there , it was so wild , we would sit in the round table room , order a bottle of JD and get trashed and dance like crazy women ! Cant believe its still going ! I dont live in London anymore , but next time im back i will have to go and take a trip down memory lane :))) read more

St. Maritz. Cool, hip, carefree, elevated and lovable blues, swing, folk, bluegrass and jazz and Rock 'n' Roll. It's a nice little basement venue just past The Wardour and it is the best club in central London I've been. Time and time again it just provides a nice get away from the real world and modern issues. Every one here whether hard core rocka billy or student just gets on with having a nice time. Its split into 5 rooms or areas with the stage and live acts at the front and seating closer to the bar and at the back. The acts aren't commercial or well known out of these circles but their still great entertainment. The last time I came there was Mexican blues band who were really amazing and a joy to listen and dance too. This place is open till quite late so you've got time to get into it or come from another venue. read more

St Moritz is the oddest choice of venue I have been to. The basement of this little Swiss restaurant looks like it should be home to Hansel and Gretel. The club is a series of tiny rooms with tables to sit at, yellowed photos of The Matterhorn and dangerously low ceilings. If I had had (as the setting would portray) mulled wine in beer mugs on tap, St Moritz would have been really cool, as it was the subdued lighting, low ceilings and aged décor sent me to sleep. However, once the night actually began, bands played and people started dancing, St Moritz made a lot more sense. Rather than being claustrophobic and packed the atmosphere was really good and the sound was incredible. Overall a really good night. read more

Strange, lovely little venue. Brilliant place to see a DJ / band as it's really intimate and they have some really decent line ups. It's a bit like being in the basement of somebody's house and having a private gig. read more

Although it seems a bit annoying to pay entry on an off-event night, but the place in part compensated for that. Decent music, a dj who actually played your requests, and overall a nice place to down a few drinks. The old-cavelike basement is strangely structured to provide you both company and privacy. Worth a visit if you're around Soho, and looking for a budget night-out. read more

This is a very cool small bar/gig venue in the heart of Soho. Based on Wardour Street, you go down some stairs into what can only be described as a cave like appearance with a few strange shaped rooms off the main one. St Moritz has a small bar but is teaming with character. One of the rooms has a big round table which is great if you are with a big group of friends, albeit a little cold. The main room where you can have a little shindig as the night goes on is bizzarely thin like a corridor but you can expect to hear some great tunes in here. I really like this place it's very cool in a down to earth sort of way. I haven't seen any bands play in here yet but they do organise gigs and I can imagine it would be a quirky setting for an intimate live gig. read more
