I can't help myself. Terrible singer or not, I have to sing or I could veritably blow up. In the car, shower, much to my husband's dismay. So when I saw a karaoke place open until midnight, on a SUNDAY, I felt all was right in the world. Cool karaoke places get you excited to be in there, before you even get to the private rooms. Even without people (it is Sunday) I could see myself being a regular there. Then the bad news came: They were closing at 11pm for a service vendor to come in waaahhh! I was a bit sad but then in the same breath, the guy told us we could sing for 35 minutes.. FOR FREE. Totally awesome of him ^_^ Inside, the rooms were clean and modern. The controls are on the wall next to the screen and we found most of the music we liked to sing! There's a mirror in there so you can rate your air guitar/Tina Turner hair flip etc. The only star strike is because the music and the lyrics on the screen are a tiny bit off on almost all the songs. Now, I am not one who usually gets excited about Karaoke nights, mainly due to my singing voice which I personally think sounds like a howling dog in heat, and I rarely, if not ever sing in public. But when two of my closest friends kept hassling me about going to a private karaoke, I suddenly found the prospect of singing without an audience a lot less daunting and decided to join them for a night of singing antics. We decided to go for the Lucky Voice chain. Although we were only 3, they put us in a room that they said is usually dedicated for a group of 6. It was perfect for us 3, but would have been very very tight had we been 6. Once we got there, we were led to our private space which was darkly lit and decorated with dark crimson walls. They have a pretty good selection of songs, new and old, and you are able to control all of the sound and volumes from your own room. There is also an amazing little button called "thirst" which magically contacts a waiter to come and take your orders for drinks. At £ 7.80 a bottle of beer however, be warned that the drinks are extortionately priced. At least we were prepared for it and had fueled up a little beforehand. I had a really fun night at Lucky Voice, but I must warn you that it was a quite an expensive experience and it does tend to attract a lot of office party crowds. Thank you for the music... Ok, so we can't carry a tune in a paper bag but my friends & I thoroughly enjoyed a night at Lucky Voice for karaoke. We sang(hmmm...), danced, laughed and murder each and every song we programmed into our pod machine. I booked a room for 8 of us and blagged us each a free Cosmopolitan, as I organise a Sex & The City group. They were STRONG, so assisted us in singing even louder than the blokes down the hall. Our pod was an adequate size and the equipment was in fine working order and an extensive song catalogue. Good seating space and little nooks and crannies to tuck your stuff in. Lucky Voice provides pod waiter service at the press of a bell and for 2hrs we were in karaoke heaven. Booking is easy and I highly recommend it because they do get busy. Their drinks are strong...did I mention, the drinks are STRONG!! We'll defo be returning. read more

A bit harder to find than the Islington Lucky Voice, the Soho branch has a similar set up minus the large bar area at the front. The rooms are identical and they still have Chas n Dave on the song choice list which makes me happy. Overall I prefer it to Islington incarnation because it is easier to get to because of Soho's better transport connections but other than that there is not much to choose between them. read more

I cannot wait to come back here for karaoke! My friend and I popped in for a cocktail (random I know) on a weekday and there was no one in the bar area when we arrived. Although it was very quiet and a bit awkward, the bar staff are really friendly and were quick at making our drinks. They also provided us with a mug of popcorn to munch - noice. We were probably only there for 45 minutes - just catching up - but you can hear some of the rooms full of people singing along to the songs and boy did it give us the giggles. There were some truuuuly awful singers but they sounded like they were having the best fun. I am a huge fan of Lucky Voice because I'm not a huge fan of karaoke generally. We go with some friends and get a room with just us. That's the attraction. Have a few drinks with my friends and make a fool of myself? Sure. Make a fool of myself in front of a huge crowd? No thanks. The only down-side is that it's a bit pricey. With 6 or 7 of us, we end up paying about £50 each for the night (drinks and all). But it really is a stand-out experience. I heartily recommend it. read more

We booked a room for the rainy bank holiday Monday and had a great time, the room was ready when we arrived (some of the first in for the day so nice and clean) and got singing, it's been a while since we were last there and they've improved the interface a little. There are new playlists that are actually populated (see my review of karaoke box!) and a lot of the backing tracks have been updated as well. The room was for 10 but we had a small problem of having enough space for everybody to sit down. Guess it means that they expect people singing to stand up! Drinks came fairly quickly when ordered but we generally went to the bar instead. The notified us of last orders (basically when your singing time is almost up) and dropped off the bill quietly so we could carry on singing. The time runs out automatically and it switches to your 'last song' (any song in the catalogue which you then designate) when the minimum time amount is remaining. All in all a fun couple of hours, perfect for a rainy day. read more

I came to this branch of Lucky Voice for a lovely Yelp karaoke event set up by the magnificent Tristan. All in all, it's very similar to the other location. Get a room. Sing some songs. Done and done. The cocktails were alright and not great, and they don't offer the 2 for 1 deal like they do at the Islington branch. They also have a problem with some of the music. One of the songs I was singing cut off in the middle. No lyrics. Boo. They do have a good selection though, and you can't beat a bunch of people singing together in a room, and the location is super convenient. read more

Lucky Voice is kinda dark and seedy when you walk in. I felt a little like I was entering a strip club. But I was greeted by the beaming face of Ashley V. who escorted me to our room. I could hear everyone before I enter, And the people in the room next door. It was quite some cacophony! But enter the room and I'm in an alternate universe of alter egos all rocking it out and getting their Diva on! It was great! Cocktails were on the small and skimpy side, nothing special and the service was slow. But you're paying for an opportunity to muck about and belt out some tunes, not a quality watering. We had some kerfuffles with the wait staff but I think we shoved too many people in a room and had some disagreements about what we ordered. They also throw you out on the second. Having been a fan of Lucky Voice for years, I finally visited its Soho location a few months back with a big group of people from work. The rabbit warren style booths, a lack of signal cutting you off from outside contact and the other-worldy sense you feel when you pop back up smack bang in the middle of Poland Street upon resurfacing makes it my favourite of the bunch. Pink neon strip lighting, rooms big enough to hold 15, that classic 'thirsty' button. I love it all. Plus, if you work nearby, it's 50% off on a Wednesday night. Hooray! read more

Now this was karaoke! UYE organised by the great Tristan J (with stirling contribution by Ashley V) reserved us 2 rooms of 12 for FREE at this little gem on a Monday night, part of the deal to give public service workers free rooms for 2 hours (thanks for being teachers guys!) We were shown down the maze of corridors to the back (I think they knew that we would be loud!) where to 2 rooms were. Great song selections were made and even better voices were dusted off in preparation. I love that you could alter the levels on the 2 microphones as well as the overall backing track, I love that the menu was touch screen and easy to navigate, I LOVE that there was a box of dress up items to suit every mood. Knockout karaoke bar. I love this place. The range of songs and track listing is fabulous and each booth is fabulous. Shooters and cocktails are well done and themed for your night of fun and drama. The lighting decor and props make it so worthwhile. If you try other booth venues they will never match up. It is expensive but soon worth it. There's a promotion going on right now, where if you enter a code when you book and check in on Facebook when you arrive, you can get an hour of karaoke for free on Fridays! I booked this place for this reason, for a going-away party this past weekend. It was such a bargain for a place in the middle of Soho. The song selection is awesome. They have all your 80's and 90's karaoke anthems - there wasn't anything that we couldn't find when we tried to look it up, actually. HOWEVER the version of "Ain't No Mountain" that they have is very weird and not at all the Diana Ross original! Disappointing! On the plus side - they have DISNEY songs! The rooms are really comfortable. The rooms for 6 can actually accommodate up to 8 - they don't tell you that though! Each additional person over 6 still has to pay for themselves when they arrive though. They're all equipped with various hats, wigs, and silly props for rocking out (though I wouldn't put on the wigs haha), and each room even comes with a "Thirsty" button that you can push when you want waiter service. Oh man. This place is TOO MUCH FUN! I wish they had more rock anthems for me to belt out (Van Halen, AC/DC, cheesy stuff like that) in their otherwise impressive list of songs. Visiting the labyrinthine Soho branch of Lucky Voice left me croaky but happy. It's exactly what you'd expect - an assortment of rooms which are rather fun to walk past, as the variety of greatest hits being belted out can inspire you once you're safely enclosed in your own cell. If you're wondering what happens in a karaoke bar, it's this. 1. A group of you hire a room. 2. A song is chosen to play - then sung (preferably loudly and unsuitably) to the victims / companions who haven't managed to escape to safety. 3. Repeat step 2 until you run out of a) voice or b) time. You're not going to run out of songs. Once you've finished wailing along to classic tunes, i.e. after step 3, you can retire to a lovely little bar at the back of the complex. Things to know before you go to Lucky Voice Soho. 1. The book inside the booth has a list of "warm-up songs" (including Queen - always a karaoke winner). 2. The staff are friendly and easy-going 3. This was the first proper booth-style karaoke dive I ever attended, but it's since been mostly superseded by its sister branch in Angel. It's smaller and a bit more cramped than the Angel branch, with less in the way of special events and promos, but it retains a certain gritty charm that goes a long way. Like all branches of Lucky Voice, you'll find the biggest list of songs anywhere, and they expand it all the time. It has the same dangerous combination of booze, crooning and waitress service that ensures the maximum spend from punters but that we've all come to know and love. read more

Lucky Voice is a private karaoke bar catering for groups of 4 - 12 people. You book by the hour and select any songs you want from their computerised list. There's a 'Thirsty' button to push when you'd like to order one of their amazing cocktails (or other drinks). They also serve food as well. I highly recommend their shots: some of them come with fizzy cola bottles or other sweets at the bottom of the glass. They also do an AMAZING cocktail: strawberry with popping candy! This has got to be one of the best ways to spend an evening with friends: drinking, singing and, best of all, no one else can hear how bad you are! read more

Lucky Voice Soho and I go way back; my wife (and fellow Qyper), finger constantly on the pulse of London's ever-shifting entertainment landscape, surprised me with a trip there on just its second day of opening. I, finger far from the pulse and halfway up my nose, thought it was still Yo! Below. At the time, it felt classy, unique, cutting edge and, most importantly, ridiculously good fun. Fast forward to 2011. I've now lost track of how many times I've visited this dimly lit, maze-like retreat, packed into one of its cocktail lounge-cum-padded cell private rooms, crooned, wailed and screamed to its diverse, ever-burgeoning tracklist, and emerged with a voice like The League of Gentlemen's Barbara Dixon. This may have something to do with the free room hire vouchers that appear to be in constant supply to me and my faithful karaoke cohorts (courtesy of LV's extremely generous Twitter representative Dan), but hey, it means we have more precious Asahi money to play with. I've only once visited its (superior) sister venue in Islington, and have no idea what its younger, Brighton and Manchester-based siblings are like, but I get the distinct feeling that the Soho branch is now the runt of the litter. Nothing, save the songs and menu (and staff, but I'll get to that later) appears to have changed since day one; the once pristine microphones are misshapen lumps, presumably because the combination of beer goggles and lack of illumination has caused some to mistake them for weighty lollipops; the novelty props look like they're harvesting several dozen strains of hitherto undiscovered bacteria (and where did the bongos go?); and journeys to the toilet are still a disorientating odyssey (if anything, I think a few blacklit UV arrows would actually contribute to the sex dungeon ambience). Bafflingly, nobody appears to have bothered to make an earnest stab at going toe-to-toe with LV's brand of designer karaoke, and I suspect it's this lack of competition that's bred a certain degree of complacency. Perhaps it's time to once again look to Tokyo's top-flight karaoke dens or even the likes of Brighton's Hotel Pelirocco - for inspiration; a fresh lick of paint, themed rooms, updated equipment, more dress-up opportunities - even applying a SingStar/Lips-esque competitive element to a selection of the most popular tunes could restore vitality to this now rather tired-looking ground zero of the UK luxury karaoke scene. As it stands, classy, unique and cutting edge it may no longer be, but it's still ridiculously good fun. A final observation: every time I visit Lucky Voice Soho and, as I've established, it's not infrequently the entire workforce appears to have been refreshed. That said, any workplace where one of your employees' key responsibilities is attempting to coax a group of roaring drunks out of a room while in the midst of destroying 'We Built This City' and then looking on wearily as they shambolically struggle to split the bill, is likely to have a high staff turnover. I imagine trying to discipline a pitbull just by waving your groin at it is a less futile endeavour. read more

Had a great time here before dinner for my mums bday, great staff, great songs, props in the booth, we were very happy and would def recommend, the only difference I would make is the bottle of prosecco was slightly pricey at 30 quid so that's why I have said four stars not five, *I reviewed them this on their own site and recieved a lovely email from their manager offering me a free drink next time I came back which was quite sweet really considering I rated everything else high and will def go back regardless just with some more prosecco drinking friends to ease out the cost, don't let it put you off and going early in the day was cheaper and a great start to a night out! read more

Came down as part of the "UYE" event last night - and I must admit not as scary as I thought it would be. It has shades of "Lost in Translation" about it, and song selection is as good as Lucky Voice gets, modern day classics from Pharrell Williams and Lorde teaming up with the anthems from New Order, Depeche Mode and Lady GaGa. Plenty of props and drinks keep the fun flowing, recommended if you're ever at a loose end. £2.50 for a Coke is a decent price for a drink in a sophisticated place such as this. read more

Come, don't be afraid. We're going deep within the notorious heart of Soho, where we shall trip down glistening black steps into a gloomy cave full of hidden wonders and unspeakable activities. Take my hand as we prowl silently down murky low-slung hallways and lose ourselves amidst the directionless gloom. Peer cautiously through narrow windows subtly positioned on barely-visible doors, through which muffled echoes of cacophonous hysteria creep stealthily into the still air beyond. What is this shady place? Are we in 18th century London, lost in an opium-hazed brothel, surrounded by persons of ill repute? Well, pretty much. We're actually in a karaoke bar on Poland St but let's face it, the similarities are endless. I'd like to think that Lucky Voice has in fact set up in a former den of iniquity but I'll let you pay a visit and draw your own conclusions. NB The description above is not an exaggeration. They've certainly embraced the fact they are (literally) an underground organisation; the tunnels and booths stretch under Soho's streets and there are no windows to speak of, nor much in the way of lighting either. Don't complain: it means you can't see the facial expressions which accompany your screeching solo. It's possible to change the lighting in the private rooms but I recommended you keep it low (low low low low low low low). At the press of a magic button, a lady will appear at the door to take your drinks order. There's a box full of dressing-up items for your vogueing requirements and a public bar to cool off in afterwards, surrounded by other shifty-looking patrons pretending that they didn't really enjoy the previous two hours and only did it because their friends made them and it was too expensive and they won't be back and god that was brilliant let's book it for next Thursday shall we? FUN FUN FUN!! I should start by saying that I couldn't carry a tune if I had handles. I suck at Karaoke. While some would argue that this is part of the fun, I must correct them by sing a few lines from any song. I do get a bit of anxiety, like sweaty palms and under boobies anxiety when singing in front of a crowd. Inebriated or not, it will always be a nerve racking experience, not so much on the fun side. However, singing in a private room surrounded by friends who will forgive me for killing small animals with my vocal talents is much better and more comfortable. What makes the experience of booth singing better is when everyone else in your party is a closet Broadway and Disney song freak! When someone else can sing "A Whole New World" opposite you as Jasmine without looking at the words, its a magical night. When a few people can get together and sing "Skid Row" from "Little Shop of Horrors" as Seymore, Audrey AND the chorus girls it is a night to remember. Lucky Voice was kind of hard to find for us out-of-towners. It wasn't actually street level and there aren't any big neon tell tale signs. You just have to look for a black gate, a pink banner, pray that the front light is on and walk down the steps. We had made reservations for a 6 person room and 8 people showed up. I thought this would be a bad thing but there was plenty room for all of us. Their drinks were very reasonably priced and there is a call button you use to order. The kareoke is all computer based so you make your selections on a touch screen and cue up your nights playlist. They have a lot of recent popular songs and a pretty decent Broadway and Disney selection. Some of the tempos were off on the songs but I suspect that has something to do with the copyrights. For our party it was very reasonable priced and fairly easy to get to. I will be returning to London for work and I will definitely make another trip out to Lucky Voice. It was definitely one of the top memorable moments of my trip there. read more

Lucky Voice is a good Karaoke bar, I have been here a few times when Tristan J organised a UYE. It was a great laugh. I love karaoke but am a terrible singer. Luckily I found that in the group if we knew the song, it is fine to just join in and sing without the mic. This was great for me as I am so shy. The location is great as its off Oxford Street. Had a super-fun night here. We all left hoarse but happy! A lot of people say this place is expensive- it was £80 for a room for 8 for 2 hours. This seemed fair enough- you would pay that to go to the cinema. The only thing was when one person dropped out and I called in advance to explain they couldn't negotiate even though it was a Tuesday night. Splitting tabs in a group can be headache and they wouldn't let us pay for drinks as we went along- although they did let us pay individually for what we had at the end and did this very efficiently with minimum fuss. Don't go. The guy behind the counter is a real piece of something. There were 4 of us. On the business card it said 10 quid per person, as we were charged 12 quid per person. and we just inquired about it, and he got defensive and really smarty pants. His customer service demeanor really had immensely a lot to be desired. I would never go due to the principle of supporting someone who doesn't take pride in thanking his customers for their business. the room was overpriced for what it was worth, pizzas seemed like they were straight fr a supermarket box (though we expected this). overall - Looking forward to finding better. read more

Lucky Voice spoiled me forever. Now when I try to go to karaoke joints in my home town of San Francisco, or in New York, or pretty much anywhere, I end up thinking "it's okay I guess, but it's no Lucky Voice". A work buddy and I came here on our last night in London on a business trip, and we had an absolute blast. The rooms are comfy, the song list is extensive, everything is insanely easy because you have a tablet set into the wall that controls the song selection and even has suggested songs for a variety of genres/themes. Below this there are sound control knobs and a button to call for drinks, which they bring to the room. The drinks were also better than I expected, and they have a good selection of cocktails. There are props in the rooms if you feel like being silly and putting on giant hats or pretending to play blown-up plastic guitars. The only downside is it's pricey, even by London standards. However, given how far this place stood above other karaoke experiences I've had (for example, we went to Karaoke Box later that same evening because all of the rooms were booked here and it was a big let down by comparison) I would say it's well worth the extra cash. read more
