Our family was part of Mattos since day one -- literally. When the school first opened it was a…read moresmall community of about 150 students, and we got to watch it grow into a full school through 6th grade. Every single grade was excellent. The facilities are state of the art, and you can tell everything was built with education and community building in mind. There's been real investment across the board: the buildings, the classroom furnishings, and just as importantly, the talent they've brought in across the teaching, maintenance, and administrative sides. Every student had access too all school classroom materials, to a classroom library and their own Chromebook. The academics speak for themselves. Mattos became a California Distinguished School in 2023, only a few years after opening its doors, and it earned a 10/10 GreatSchools rating within just a few years. The curriculum was solidly grade-appropriate and standards-aligned. Lessons stayed focused on core academics, and what our kids brought home each day was what we expected for their age -- no surprises. The workload was well balanced too -- homework at a reasonable level, with plenty of time left for kids to enjoy being kids. The parent community was a big part of what made this place work. The PTA was very active, organizing educational and fun events and bringing in donations to fund current and future activities. They won the National PTA School of Excellence award twice. Students, teachers, and parents really did form a united community, and the teachers and staff clearly cared a lot about their students' wellbeing. One more bonus: the city built a beautiful park right next door, and it's become the after-school and weekend gathering spot for families. An honest note. The school was fairly strict about following rules and limiting non-academic activities -- I suspect the PTA could have done even more with a longer leash -- though I understand the need to keep things orderly and safe. Our years at Mattos were a fantastic experience from start to finish, and I recommend the school to any family considering it.

What a great day! I was so impressed with OSD School's commitment to supporting its community. The…read moreschool provided food and daily house hold items (like shampoo, conditioner, toilet paper, blankets, and more) for the students and their families during the holidays, which is such a thoughtful and generous gesture. It truly shows that OSD is dedicated to taking care of its students and their families both inside and outside the classroom. We are so lucky to be part of such a caring and positive school environment!

I'm extremely disappointed with the overall quality of this school. Unfortunately, our experience…read morehere over the past few years has been frustrating and discouraging for several serious reasons. First of all, the leadership is completely unstable. The principal seems to change every year, and that lack of consistency trickles down to the rest of the school. It's hard to feel confident about any long-term improvement when the administration is constantly changing. Beyond academics, the school really doesn't offer much extracurricular activities which is a missed opportunity for students who want to explore interests outside the classroom. But by far, the most concerning issue has been how poorly bullying is handled. My child has been bullied--physically and verbally--by the same student for three years in a row, ever since 2nd grade. Even though they've been in separate classes since 3rd grade, the bullying continues at recess. We've reported this multiple times, and nothing meaningful has been done. No disciplinary action has been taken against the student responsible, and we are baffled as to why the school refuses to take stronger action. To make matters worse, when my child finally stood up and defended herself after being hit, she was the one who got in trouble and was warned she might be suspended. That kind of response is incredibly unfair and discouraging. It sends the message that defending yourself is more punishable than being the one causing harm. Yard duties are also a major problem. Either they're not present during conflicts, or they simply ignore the situation altogether. When someone is hurt or gotten into arguments, they were nowhere to be found to supervise the kids or just stood by doing nothing. There are also some strange and frustrating inconsistencies with staff behavior. On one occasion, my child stepped on a roach and was told not to kill it because "it's nature"--yet the school doesn't apply that same level of care or concern to the kids who are being harassed daily. A teacher once even told the class that a rock is a living thing, which is just flat-out incorrect and makes us question the quality of education being provided. We've also had some concerns about the overall school environment. For example, there were a few instances of theft in my child's class, but it didn't seem like the teacher was able to address them effectively. Every year, the good kids my child connects with end up transferring to other schools, and now we're starting to understand why. The ones that stayed doesn't like the school either. Over the years, we've noticed that several families who value a positive learning environment have chosen to move on, which has made us wonder if ongoing issues are prompting those decisions. When I ask my child if she misses this school, she immediately and firmly says 'No' without hesitation -- which, to me, speaks volumes about her experience there. This school desperately needs better leadership, more active, caring, and responsible staff, and a serious commitment to creating a safe, nurturing environment for all students. Until then, I would not recommend it to any family.

She makes sure every child is doing well and feels comfortable and happy at school. We are very grateful to have Ms. Filiz as Kylan's Pre-K teacher. As parents, it means so much to be able to trust someone with our child every day, and she truly gives us that comfort and confidence. Kylan loves going to school, and we can see how much love and effort she puts into teaching and taking care of the children. Taking care of so many little kids is not easy at all, but Ms. Filiz does an amazing job every single day. We really appreciate all of her hard work, dedication, and kindness. The school offered a great selection of classes, which made it easy to choose a variety of programs based on my child's interests and learning needs. One of the highlights was the Academic Bridge Camp taught by Ms. Mandal. It was a fantastic class that helped the children review and prepare for first grade in a fun and engaging way. The lessons allowed them to continue learning during the summer without feeling overwhelmed. Ms. Mandal is very organized and methodical. She sent a weekly newsletter explaining what would be covered and also provided daily email updates about the academic activities completed in class. This made it very easy for us to stay informed about what was happening in the classroom. She is kind, encouraging, and appreciative of the children while also maintaining good structure in the classroom. My child says she is "only a little strict" and likes her very much! We are very grateful to Ms. Mandal and the Stratford team for making the summer both educational and enjoyable.

Especially the fact that he got away from being in Ms Stuart's Kindergarten class. I swear if you don't want you kid to be BULLIED by a teacher , don't go there. She is so mean and so rude to the parents it's so crazy how long she has gotten away with it but we all know why, Mrs Goldberg. The principle everyone praises, but really she is the most fake person I'll ever meet. If you don't want your kid to be yelled at or to have them cry, don't go there. Ms Stuart and Mr Orozco really do put fear in your children. Mr Orozco made my son cry but then emailed me to make it seem that he was sooo great in math and he is a "wizard" but yet only not to have me get upset of why he is a "wizard" Geez I don't know maybe not yelling at my kid or others to get a damn answer right! They are 4th and 5th graders, relax!!! You can't talk to these supposedly educated people because once you leave, you kid gets the worst of it. Since they eat their lunches outside in the heat and cold I spoke up on it. After that my son was bullied by Mrs Goldenberg about where to sit. Is that really necessary? Like why couldn't she say all that to me, his parent. And let's not talk about the secretary who wears very inappropriate clothing and flirts with most of all the dads. Go ahead because some moms have gone to the office to let her know it's not ok. I Duno maybe after having her own baby she will understand.
