I give this school 2 stars why here I'll tell u why. 1. The lunch people forced me to literally take apple slices even though I didn't want apple slices. 2. I once dropped my eraser and I got in trouble for dropping an eraser like dude it's an eraser. 3. If you love your kids, think twice before sending them to John Sinnott. I know the reviews look great online, but our experience was really disappointing. The staff didn't seem to care, and the teachers were far from warm or welcoming. My child came home tired and in tears every single day during the first two weeks of TK. It was honestly heartbreaking. All the school seemed to care about was attendance--not how the kids were actually doing. We expected a supportive, caring environment, but it felt cold and stressful instead. read more

I did not know a thing about Sinnott until I enrolled our 7.5 year old for kindergarten. One of my close mommy friends looked up the school on a website and told me Sinnott is a good school that gets high test scores. I was more impressed after he had actually started going to school there. His kindergarten teacher was Ms. Yoshimura and she is nothing short of wonderful. I was comfortable speaking to her and love that I could get an update on how he was progressing in school via email weekly since my sister/mom picked him up from school. First grade he had Mrs. Leday. She too was great. She was firm with the kids but also caring. I was able to email her with my concerns and always received a response the same day. Second grade he had Mrs. Eugenio. She too was nothing short of wonderful. We got along really well and bonded on my 7.5 year old, his friends and things he did/said. He adored her so much that he remembers the things she told him and teaches them to his siblings. This year he has Mrs. Muratalla and I have yet to speak to her but I'm sure she'll be just as great. I've heard lots of great things about her from other parents. That's the pattern at Sinnott... lots of great teachers. This year our twins started kindergarten at Sinnott. Evan was fortunate enough to be in Ms. Yoshimura's class. Madilyn is in Mrs. Hoeppner's class. So far they both enjoy their teachers. I know it's going to be another great school year at Sinnott. The office staff along with the Principal is always friendly and ready to help. You always feel welcomed walking in. read more

Sinnott Elementary scores at the top of the pack in Milpitas Unified. But MUSD only places in the middle ranks when compared to other unified districts in Santa Clara County based on API scores. Sinnott Elementary is one of several schools in Milpitas that do as well as can be expected and have a well-trained, dedicated staff. But when compared to schools in comparable neighborhoods located in cities with a more supportive city council, none of the Milpitas public schools has a chance. read more

I watched them build Sinnott and then I attended it for seven years. My siblings children have also gone here over the years and it still is the best of the elementary schools in Milpitas with the exception of Pearl Zanker which has some of the best Kindergarten teachers around. read more

Fantastic school. My daughter loves all her teachers and she gets a well rounded education. Unfortunately, as a public school, they still have to teach at a steady pace for all students which may be a little slower if your kid is a quicker on the uptake. We have to supplement her with additional home work at home. However, she's getting a quality education without us having to pay 10-20k for a private school. The most important thing is parent involvement. Money alone can't give your kid a quality education. This school has steadily gone up in ranks, and since the switch to Common Core testing instead of API, this is now a 10 ranked school. This just shows that the API can be gamed by rote memorization. As a parent, I had to relearn some of the concepts with Common Core, but it makes a lot of sense. I'm not sure why other parents hate it. The most important thing about Common Core is that there is not one way of getting the answers right. I teach my kids the curriculum method but I also teach them the old methods as well. Knowing more than one way to solve a problem and understanding *why* and *how* are the keystones of Common Core. read more

My little Girl attends Mrs. Barber (Also known as Mrs. Hughes) class since grade 1. Now she is grade 2. We are very happy to have Mr. Barber as my daughter teacher for 2 years. Mr. Barber is a creative and charming teacher who can teach and lead little boys and girls to trigger their desire to learn. She is a great communicator with parents also. Every week, we receive her class letters to update class progression and news. It will take lots of teacher time and efforts. We appreciate her devotion for the classes. It is also very lucky that grade 2 have many devoted parents who care about the education. Some of parents spend time to help grade home work or support some activities. Mrs. Barber classes are academic strong and also socially strong. My daughter enjoys her class and is very happy to go to school. Mrs. Barber class cares about culture experience. In her class, there are plenty different race background students learn together. They share US traditional holiday experience and also Chinese / India / Spanish culture. They also perform music drama. Last year was " Music Garden Show ". Their picture is at "Milpitas Post ". What are super stars! We also are very happy to have Mr. Frascone as the principle of John Sinnott Elementary. He makes John Sinnott's teachers and administrators boost morale. School API just jump to 927 and become the highest elementary school API in Milpitas in 2013. Although I am not a fan of Golf or Football, I can feel his energy to want students to adopt healthy life style and have warm feeling in school. 2014 year is a challenging year for school since Milpitas school district adopted "Common Core Standard". Currently, lots of teachers spend their time to upgrade class material and learn the new standard to teach and test students. Some higher grade material introduce to low grade students. It is more non-multiple and essay style questions. It is a good progression. Student need to use their own sentence and calculation to solve questions. This style is challenging. However, it is good for students to enhance writing and thinking capabilities. On the other hand, Asian elementary schools are very strong in math. I believe we cannot just simple satisfied high API. Our children need to be competitive with International students. More discussions about " Common Core " are good for school to become stronger. My Daughter has been attending Sinnot for the last 2 years and I should say that I am very happy with the teaching and the extracarricular activities this school has to offer. This year she has Mrs. Adrianne Barber as her second grade teacher. She is such a wonderful teacher!! Her ability to connect with her students and her talent at teaching simple concepts, as well as more advanced topics, are both truly superior. She accomplishes these tasks with great initiative and with a very positive attitude. Talented and enthusiastic, she always finds new and creative ways to teach the most challenging material. At the same time she is very patient, encouraging and has a great sense of humor. My daughter has enjoyed each and every day this academic year , she looks forward to go to school which is such a surprise from a girl who used to look for reasonsnot to attend ... This school is getting better with Mr. Frascone becoming principle here. I sent my kids to private schools, but they like here better. As long as they are happy. I still wish their API is higher. read more
