The summer following Kindergarten, she was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. On the recommendation from a coworker, we toured the Merryhill school. From the outset, we were impressed. The curriculum was on par with the other school, and the diversity of the experience was clearly wide ranging. Once the school year started it became even more clear that the principal was highly engaged with all the students, and that between her and the teachers, they would bend over backwards to assure that the accommodations necessary for my daughter were in place. Unlike my daughter's former school, we were able to work with her teachers to assure that through her school work and tests, she could demonstrate what she had learned, instead of putting her into a cookie-cutter educational system that tests in only one way and does not accommodate for her needs. As she has entered the third grade, we could not be more thrilled with the Merryhill experience and the staff at the school. My daughter has gone from hating school to not being able to get enough. Her grades continue to maintain at the highest level and she scored above her grade level in standardized testing. Her confidence in both her academics and her social interactions continues to grow. I sincerely believe this is in big part due to the efforts of the Merryhill staff. While every school and every environment is not for every student, parents should be doing their due diligence in assessing the most appropriate direction for their child. We are incredibly fortunate to have found Merryhill at a time during which we had numerous questions. A great big thank you to Merryhill Elementary School.

I went to this school from kindergarten through fifth grade and here are my thoughts. it's been…read moreyears since i've graduated but there's this thing that has been bugging me. when i went in to third grade, there was this thing during lunch called "silent time". we would have 15 minutes to talk to our friends while eating, then the last 15 minutes it NEEDED to be dead silent. we can't make eye contact or laugh with our friends if we wanted a full recess time. i get it the school wants children to focus on eating, but even if you're finished eating you can't even play rock paper scissors with your friends if you don't want to get in trouble. smile, not a full recess. what am i supposed to do when im finished eating, slump with my head down like a depressed child?? why couldn't i just be homeschooled if i didn't want to talk with my friends ?? Sure the education was pretty good until it came to the point where most of the good teachers left. i hope the new principal turns this school around.

But what really impressed me is how happy the kids are. The teachers have spent lots of efforts creating a positive, engaging and fun classroom atmosphere. They teach kids how to be a good friend to each other. I am forever grateful for these wonderful teachers. My boys love going to school, and they love to be with their friends. My son is already looking forward to going back, and summer just started! The community is another big plus. The parents are incredibly loving and caring, and it feels like more than just a school--it's a great community. We're always grateful to be part of this Monarch family.

Our family was part of Mattos since day one -- literally. When the school first opened it was a…read moresmall community of about 150 students, and we got to watch it grow into a full school through 6th grade. Every single grade was excellent. The facilities are state of the art, and you can tell everything was built with education and community building in mind. There's been real investment across the board: the buildings, the classroom furnishings, and just as importantly, the talent they've brought in across the teaching, maintenance, and administrative sides. Every student had access too all school classroom materials, to a classroom library and their own Chromebook. The academics speak for themselves. Mattos became a California Distinguished School in 2023, only a few years after opening its doors, and it earned a 10/10 GreatSchools rating within just a few years. The curriculum was solidly grade-appropriate and standards-aligned. Lessons stayed focused on core academics, and what our kids brought home each day was what we expected for their age -- no surprises. The workload was well balanced too -- homework at a reasonable level, with plenty of time left for kids to enjoy being kids. The parent community was a big part of what made this place work. The PTA was very active, organizing educational and fun events and bringing in donations to fund current and future activities. They won the National PTA School of Excellence award twice. Students, teachers, and parents really did form a united community, and the teachers and staff clearly cared a lot about their students' wellbeing. One more bonus: the city built a beautiful park right next door, and it's become the after-school and weekend gathering spot for families. An honest note. The school was fairly strict about following rules and limiting non-academic activities -- I suspect the PTA could have done even more with a longer leash -- though I understand the need to keep things orderly and safe. Our years at Mattos were a fantastic experience from start to finish, and I recommend the school to any family considering it.

Our son feels at ease and excited every day. Strong academics paired with rich co-curriculars -- there's a great balance between core learning and activities like drama, public speaking, and dance performances. Post-school TK program -- a smooth transition program that set him up well for KG, and now he loves being there every day. Excellent communication -- the school app is responsive; whenever we reach out, we get a quick, reassuring reply. Everyone from the teachers to the staff to the principal- they're the best people ever! They genuinely love all the children. I've watched my kid grow from his first day when he wanted to go home to a kid who can't wait to go to school every morning. He even asks me to pick him up later so he can play longer with his friends! My son started pre-pandemic and continued through virtual and then back on campus- so we've seen how MCS has dealt with change and the obstacles covid-19 threw at them and wow they were amazing. They really stepped up to the challenge every step of the way. They exceeded all expectations and then some. They always helped me get to the point where I was comfortable with things and went above and beyond in every stage of the pandemic. They were amazing pre-covid but they really shined during covid. Their virtual learning was so good and the teachers (Mr. Urbach) were able to adapt so well! We went back on campus in September - and they made us feel as safe as they could - following social distancing protocols, constantly cleaning, etc- while providing such a great education and support system for my child and myself! It has been a struggle this year for everyone but the love and support and the dedication that the staff and the teachers have provided for me and my family has been amazing and I don't think can ever properly express how thankful I am for them. Also- logistically as a preschool their schedule is amazing and the kids really get to learn about themselves and Math and literature and the Bible. It's a good balance of play and fun and learning and they get to do so much art! They have a lot of activities to help develop their fine and gross motor skills. Not only does MCS provide a good education but they also provide a good foundation in helping these young children be confident and caring young individuals. They definitely give them all the tools both academically and socially for them to succeed- which seems like it'll be a great foundation for them as they move forward in life.

I really wanted to give this school 5 stars, but i was so disappointed in our experience this year…read more i think if your child attends the morning or all day session, you would have a great experience. and I would recommend this preschool to anyone looking for that time slot. but for us, my child was in the afternoon session. it was great in the beginning of the year. i saw a lot of progress and the teachers are wonderful. you can tell that the kids are cared for. but after the start of the new year, they took out some of the older kids from the all day class they kept piling in more and more new younger kids in the afternoon class. this class was supposed to be a 4 yr old class to prep for kindergarten. now over half the class are 2 and 3 year olds. the poor teacher is stuck with bored 4 yr olds and younger kids that can't keep up. no one is really learning anything new. the director was showing around a new aide and i overheard her refer to the class as the "buffet class". not sure if that's something to be proud of! if the school is going to advertise a 4 yr old program, they should stick with it throughout the whole year. I'm just am really disappointed. i was hoping to send my younger one here, but now i think I'll have to look elsewhere.

My child is currently in the Intermediate program, and I've noticed a lot of growth from clearer speech and broader knowledge to more confidence in making friends and trying different activities. The classrooms are always clean and thoughtfully designed for little ones, which makes the environment welcoming and safe. While daily updates from teachers were more detailed in earlier programs, in Intermediate we still receive a nice rundown at pickup, which helps us stay connected with how the day went. The teachers here are truly the highlight. They are approachable, caring, and empathetic. My child often talks about Miss Ashley and Miss Rajani, and I can see the effort they put in every day. It's reassuring as a parent to feel that the children are in kind and capable hands. Most importantly, my child enjoys going to school and looks forward to meeting friends and teachers, which speaks volumes about the nurturing environment.

She told me a child needs to bite five consecutive days to be even considered for suspension. Come to find out that the aggressor was affiliated with the school and there were other undocumented aggressive behaviors. The principal straight up lied and had inept responses to my concerns. They now have a Type B citation, "a violation that, if not corrected, may an immediate risk to the health, safety or personal rights of clients" from the Department of Social Services. As a former childcare provider myself--at another Nobel Learning Communities school no less--it was extremely disappointing to see the incompetent leadership fail the amazing teachers and rupture family relationship on the ground. Oh and good luck at the next open house, because we waited since the night before at the advice of the principal and somehow they managed to be as disorganized as possible when they arrived in the morning and forced people to take a photo alongside those who got waitlisted?? Like what?? The sudden surge of 5 star reviews from burner accounts is also telling of their priorities.

Because my parents accidentally enrolled me in a Scientology affiliated school when I was 9. So... if you're not interested in Scientology, this might not be the program for you. To be fair, I also had a lot of great field trips and fun times during my Scientology Summer... and exactly zero standards-based instruction.
