After an abundance of issues I sat last week with the director (Ms. Henson) and my sons teacher (Ms. Calvert) in an attempt to iron things out. However now I see it was a total waste of time and breath. I came in to pick up my son today and was stopped by the director who began prompting my 6 year old son to "tell the truth about his day" she then proceeded to tell me my son bit another student. My son was adamant that he didn't bite her but admitted to fighting her because she was fighting him first (where are the staff/teachers when this was happening? Are the children even being supervised?) the director (Ms. Henson) then called the child in who claimed she was bit. The child proceeded to point to clearly some mosquito/bed bug bites that were healed and said that's where she was bit. The child also then said "the bumps aren't included, it was bleeding earlier." I then asked the child did she show the teacher when it was bleeding, she said no. For whatever reason they've always tried to classify my son as the "problem child" had plenty issues with a child being a child and seemed to try and change his upbeat personality by being very consistent with attempting to lower his self esteem. Perhaps instead of attempting to force children to admit something they didn't do. Look into the matter first. it would've been nice had the bite in question been looked at or a discussion been completed with both children before I came to pick him up. any person with common sense would've known the other child way lying. They didn't even conduct an assessment just took the word of a manipulative lying lil girl in conjunction with hating my child for whatever reason. I'm done with CCA and will spread the word on every platform I can and filing a complaint with the department of education.

Yet they kicked her out for the most absurd reason. Prior to that, they kept putting diapers on my potty trained child. Their reasoning was that they confused her with that of another child. Mind you this child looks nothing like my child nor is even the same age as my child. Not all Black kids look alike. Any parent who has successfully potty trained their child knows how hard it is to keep that up for it to be ruined by absentminded staff. My child was very vocal when needing to go to the bathroom so there is no excuse for this mix up. If they are having a hard time keeping track who is who, then that is indicative of the level of care they providing the children attending Roenne. Not to mention their rude morning staff/cook. She has no people skills. Miss S should not be participating in any form of child care or any other form of customer service/ public outreach/service. There's not a nurturing bone in her body. My child wasn't at that school for no more than 5 months. Don't enroll your child if you want peace of mind knowing your child is being properly cared for by staff who don't just look at her as a number. Full tuition paying parents deserve more.

Honestly... didn't think I would be writing a review 15 years later, but seeing that a certain…read moreabusive teacher still works there, I find it imperative to share this. When I was in 5th grade at Redeemer I almost took my life because of a specific teacher who singled me out and bullied me along with the rest of my class. During this time I was struggling with school as my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 leukemia and was on the brink of passing. One day during prayer and our teachings my teacher told me that "people have cancer because they are sinners and have the devil in them". Being only 10 years old this broke me as my dad was so sick he couldn't even attend school events. A few months later, I was still struggling with grades and keeping up as things at home were getting worst. During this time I also found myself developing a crush on a girl in my class. After the school caught wind of a possible LGBTQ+ crush we were both treated terribly. They publicly scorned both of us and had me sit for DAYS behind the "stage area" in the dark alone, instead of going to class, and even threatened to hold me back a grade. The most traumatizing of it all is when she convinced my parents (who were not in a healthy state of mind due to what was happening with our family) to come in and cut all of my hair off as a punishment in front of my class and make me look like a boy...the kicker is, the teacher who punished me most, is very much so in the closet herself and I do feel a lot of the treatment I received was internalized homophobia of her own. After this experience I only dated men for a majority of my life even though it felt completely wrong. After years of therapy I finally felt safe to come out and I am now happily married to my WIFE. The only teacher who kept me from taking my own life was Mrs. Ridgeway, God bless her. She was the only teacher who stopped the constant bullying I received, the only teacher who saw more than my trauma in me and the only teacher who told my parents I would be okay. Sadly she passed away from cancer 2 years after I graduated. She was the most Godly and close to perfect human I have known to this date and she still died of cancer. I wonder if they believed that SHE had the devil in her... I truly hope not. I share all of this to say, there are lots of amazing and Christian based schools in LA that teach Christian love not Christian hate. I suggest trying one of those if you're not interested in therapy bills later.

I am overjoyed to say that this school is amazing. The director, Ms. Reed, greets you every day with a warm welcome and is very attentive with all of my needs and concerns as a parent. I cannot express how much Ms.Reed has made me feel at ease to have my child attending school. My child gets excited whenever Ms.Reed or Ms.Jordan are there to greet her in the mornings because they show the greatest amounts of love to her. Even in the mornings when my daughter is moody, I feel 10x better seeing them there because I know they will comfort her. The school goes up to Kindergarten and every teacher that works there, I know without a doubt, will have my child's best interest. Her teacher at the moment is Ms. Webster, she has wholeheartedly made me an even prouder mother by teaching my 3 year old how to count to 100, read, and write! My daughter is excelling tremendously in her academics all whilst having fun. Ms.Webster knows my child like the back of her hand and shows great attention to detail with my daughters likes and dislikes. Every night when we're doing her homework she surprises me with something new she learned every day. I recommend this school to any parent looking for a welcoming community for their children. Two months into my employment I started to realize how toxic the team is at the Sawtelle /Mar Vista location. I don't believe they have the best interest in the children who attend this location. They never came up to me to evaluate my performance but instead went straight to the director and told her a bunch of lies. If they are genuinely concerned about your child's well being don't you think they would speak to me immediately about my performance? That certainly did not happen. The director took their word and ultimately told me " you're not fit for this company." Seems to me like they just wanted me out but in the end they did me a huge favor! I wish blue oak the best but they should definitely re-think the people they are hiring. As of right now this location only seems to care about getting through the day and making sure they have someone to clean the classrooms, not a genuine authentic team building atmosphere.

Words like, "inspired, identity, collaboration, advocacy, equality, mentorship, hospitality, and community" are not only commonplace in his vocabulary, but they are part of who he is and how he understands himself and his world.  We moved our son to Blue Oak after having completed 1.5  years at another local preschool when we had serious concerns about how he was being treated and how he was learning to behave.  The contrast between these two schools could not have been more striking. When my son joined his Blue Oak class mid year, the teachers prepared the class to welcome and embrace him. A few weeks before he started, they placed photos of him and our family in the class room and spoke all about him at morning meetings. They asked the children what they wanted to learn about him and asked them how it might feel to be new to a group of already established friends (using the opportunity both to ensure our son was welcomed with so much warmth but also to teach the other children empathy). They scheduled a playdate for him and us to come meet a few of the children prior to his start date. On this play date, we were all welcomed with such warmth. All of the teachers and administrators greeted us by name (before we introduced ourselves) and you would have thought my son was  a celebrity based on the reception he received from the children. The children (not the adults) gave us a tour and showed our son their favorite things to do at school. Additionally, the administration had a family in his class reach out to us to welcome our family to the community and set up a play date outside of school so our son could build rapport with their son prior to starting school. How they handled this transition was a glimpse into how they do everything; with so much deliberate intention;  knowing that every action, every conversation, every word impacts others (and especially these precious young souls).  I was so worried about my son when he started at Blue Oak, not so much about the transition, as I immediately knew that Blue Oak had that handled, but concerned he'd continue the behaviors he learned at the other preschool - hitting, kicking, biting. I heard nothing from the teachers for the first few weeks, but immediately started to see pictures of my son on the blog looking content and focused, engaging with new friends, digging, wire cutting, climbing, reading quietly in cozy spaces, sitting in small storytelling groups "collaborating" with others and I couldn't help but compare it to the scenes I would witness at pickup at the other school we had just left - unsettled children, chaos, yelling, hitting, frenetic energy while the teachers were eating or gossiping with parents or each other, in short - dysregulated little nervous systems in desperate need of competent adults with both the will and skill to support and guide them. If only that other school could learn from the brilliant directors and teachers at Blue Oak!  .  When we had his first parent/teacher conference, I was in tears when the teachers shared that on his first day at Blue Oak, a friend took a toy from him and he hit that friend. The teachers said that they fully expected this behavior given the environment he had come from and that they were thrilled that they had this opportunity to work with him and teach him the norms and behavior expectations. They explained how they worked with our son and the other friend on conflict resolution (without shame or blame) and THAT WAS THE LAST TIME he ever hit at school.  I remember feeling so relieved, our son was going to be fine...and now after his 1.5 years at Blue Oak, I see that he is so so much more than "fine." He is thriving! I feel so beyond proud of the 5 year old he has become and see nothing but a bright future for him (based on this critical foundation of respect, social and emotional intelligence, empathy, self-regulation and love).  Send your child to Blue Oak if you believe your child is capable far beyond what conventional societal wisdom would assume and if you want your child to be seen and honored for exactly who they are. Your child will be treated consistently by all adults (admin teachers and aides) with nothing but respect, kindness and the healthy structure and boundaries that they need to explore their limits safely and to grow to be their "best self"...and DON'T TAKE IT FOR GRANTED! I think I might have had we not had the "other" experience at another school first. This school is the real deal. You will count yourselves among the luckiest (and blown away by the results)  if your child (and family) have this experience.

We are very happy with the family environment this school provides! I was concerned with the…read morewell-being of my young child and didn't want him to be picked on by older kids. I grew up with older siblings and they always looked after me in elementary school and I wasn't sure how I could provide that for my child. To my surprise, my kindergartener is friends with the 8th graders! The school does a wonderful job teaching the older grades to look after the younger ones and is such a great relief that this school is anti-bullying and safe environment!! In addition, I've looked into other local private schools in Westchester and this school has no wait-list, much more affordable and is not at all far from the Westside:)
