The preschool director and the teachers are incredible, they love the kids so deeply and get to know all the families so well. The kids are challenged academically and it's been incredible to see how much our 4 year old has learned. They go on fun and exciting field trips, have access to extracurriculars and have a nice rotation of activities depending on the season (water play in summer, areal class in the fall etc). The hours are great for working parents and the kids are fed very healthy and interesting foods, helping to expand their palates. Each month they focus on a different global destination and they also learn about social issues in an age-appropriate way. I can't imagine a better preschool experience for our daughter and I'm so thankful for everything she has learned in such a short period of time!

A place that follows cutting edge research and embraces a joyful and loving atmosphere and works to free kids from the drudgery most schools unthinkingly and ill advisedly embrace. Argo Navis always has its heart in the right place and does what's best for kids----even when it hurts their bottom line. They are concerned with education not schooling. Wow! As an educator for over 30 years, I can't imagine a better school for my child; simply put: she is thriving there! The small class sizes and personalized teacher attention make the school unparalleled. They know her and work to help her find her passion. My kid has always loved making little newspapers. Guess what Argo did? They helped and supported her dream and published a school newspaper that she spearheaded---all in breath-taking speed, held up only by her. LOL. I have been involved with every type of school there is and believe me, something like this would never have happened in them or if it did, it would have taken so long and by the time the slow wheels of bureaucracy got it done, the passion and interest would have long dissipated. Argo's travel and real world experiences are the icing upon the cake. Scuba diving, babysitting class, sailing, aerial, hip hop dancing, World Peace camp. YOWZA! Every day, my child is happy and excited to get to school and I am thrilled to get here there. It is priceless. Yay Argo!

Obviously LAUSD schools have their benefits and liabilities, but as a product of the school system who went on to graduate from UC Berkeley and USC Law, I have faith in the system and believe that each student has the potential to succeed if they take advantage of all the resources available to them, even if their parents aren't able or willing to be at home tutors. Their are some great teachers and programs at this school and even though I can't comment on the academic performance, I can say that the staff and teachers that I did come into contact with through my volunteer program were all good faith actors who put their heart and soul into educating the youth and I look forward to returning to the community next semester!!!!

The latest incident was enough for me, my child third grader was punched and bullied by a 5th grader, when my husband and I approached the principal to address the issue she would not even come out of her office to address our concerns regarding our child's safety, she brushed us off and stated that the incident happened at the Youthservices so she is not responsible, I will post the pics if how this 5th grader left my kid's leg and the not so new principal did not address the issue took responsibility for my child's safety. I would not recommend this principal to run ANY school.

Shama has been an amazing support, resource and caregiver to our son and his classmates. The small size of the school ensures children are given 1:1 attention and support and are able to develop close relationships with their classmates as well. I genuinely believe that she cares deeply about our son, his development, happiness and overall growth. While enrolled in Shama's school, our son developed massively both socially and emotionally. He learned how to be a thoughtful, caring schoolmate and friend; learned his ABCs and even began spelling at the age of 3; and became more independent and adventurous. Shama is focused on helping to make not just her students lives better, but their parent's too. My husband had to go unexpectedly out of town when I was 8 months pregnant, and Shama allowed us to extend our son's days at daycare at a moment's notice to make our lives easier. She is fair, flexible and accommodating. I feel lucky to have been part of her community!

The entire house is beautifully dedicated to the daycare (not lived in), which gives it a unique and intentional feel. The indoor environment is calm and organized, filled with Montessori-inspired, high-quality wooden toys, and everything is set up to promote independence and creativity. The outdoor space is truly magical, a green haven with a tree house, slide, swing, sandpit, and lots of flowers and trees. It feels like a little world just for the kids. What really sets Village Peace apart is the woman who leads it, Shama. She is kind, joyful and creative. She brings so much intention to her care, fostering independence while offering comfort and fun. Her assistant is equally wonderful, speaking both English and Spanish with the children, and has even become our trusted babysitter outside daycare hours because our boys love her so much. There's a true sense of community among the parents, everyone knows each other, and it feels like we're part of a village raising our kids together. We entrusted Village Peace with both our sons starting at 15 months old, and it's been a place where they've grown, thrived, and been so clearly loved. We especially appreciated the support during the potty training stage, they were encouraging, patient, and respectful of each child's own rhythm. If you're looking for a nurturing, peaceful, and enriching daycare in the Fairfax/Venice-Pico area, I can't recommend Village Peace enough!

The more we learned from families who were there - and by comparison visiting a couple other schools -we knew we didn't have to look any further than right up the street. The school has grown and evolved (now an environmental studies magnet program!) and my kids could not be happier. As someone who works in public education, I can say with certainty that the quality of instruction is very high. My kids have thrived with nurturing and loving teachers who take the time to understand how they learn, and have given them the tools to be successful. Hats off to Principal Hall-Johnson for making really strong new hires over the last couple years - the team of teachers is really quite impressive. And the community! We have made some of our closest friends, and everyone genuinely cares about and supports one another. Whenever I'm at drop off or pickup, I have kids run up to me saying "Hi Ivy's mom!" and I know my kids enjoy the same personal connection with other parents. We're all in this together, working to ensure that our public school works for our kids - we have strong advocates and team players, all with the same goal. Everyone steps up to help however they can, and it's truly a community effort to make the school as great as it is.

There were a handful of great teachers who presented as what anyone would want in a teacher for their kid. The parent center is incredible and the woman who runs this program is awesome along with the families who are very relatable, kind and welcoming- made leaving this school mid year a devastating but necessary choice. We left because of my son's Kindergarten teacher, Ms. King. How this woman is a teacher is still a perplexing issue for me. Her tone with children is beyond intolerable. My kid was so happy to go to school, excited for learning, being dropped off by the Garden, his friends, then things started to change very quickly. There are several examples I can give that let us know he was not doing well. But this one sums it up pretty well, one day on our walk home from school he asked "Mom, do you think my teacher is mean to me because I'm not smart?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing, but also not surprised he picked that undertone up from her. After his pre-school years, going into her classroom was hugely difficult for our family. Witnessing her consistently rude, patronizing and sarcastic personality towards kids- I had no choice but to unenroll him from the school. It was barely 6 months into the school year. In addition, on the field trip, I sat behind her in the bus and heard her gossiping to a parent about another child's parent. The kid of the parent being gossiped about happened to be sitting right next to me and I wondered, did he know who she was talking about? Well, the kid said "you're talking about my Mom". He knew!! Ms. King then gaslights this 5 year old, telling him she wasn't, that he should "mind his own business". This is when I also figured out why my kid asked me that question about being smart. Her tone with certain children, who happened to know how to read, was clearly much kinder and softer, in her way of being those things. Children can read a room pretty well, they in fact are incredibly perceptive which I suppose could be called "smart". I literally walked to the office and un-enrolled him from this absolutely toxic learning environment after that field trip. My issue with the school is I know everyone knew what was going on with her. You'd have to be completely checked out not to notice. Everyone can hear Ms. King's voice, her tone and rudeness throughout the hall with her door shut, at the fence during drop off... and for this, I felt there was no need to discuss her behavior, which is obviously negligent and inappropriate for a classroom of ANY grade. In addition to this, she never took the kids to the Garden (at least during our 6 months there) for learning. Which I was told would be an extensive part of their sciences and environmental learning. After unenrolling my kid, I saw a parent, who was not from the same classroom but saw every morning at drop off- I was visibly sad. I let her know we were leaving. I said "it's just not the right fit" and she said "does not the right fit really mean Ms. King is unhinged?" So. Yeah, people know... My kid is finishing 1st grade now at another school. We are on still recovering from those 6 months.
