School is challenging but not too much homework. Administration cares about the kids and takes safety seriously. Lots of staff on campus. My kid likes the Block class schedule: you take 7 classes rather than standard 6. And it makes the week more interesting/always changing. It's just feels like a fun place ...w lots of student-run clubs and music / bands in the quad at lunch etc. Hami is not close, but the drive is worth it.

Our eldest daughter attended Hamilton and graduated from UC Davis in 2020, and is now graduating from her master's program at Stanford class of 2022. We currently have our youngest daughter graduating this year 2022 in the Hamilton music academy and deciding between Cal Poly San Louis Obispo or UCLA. MY POINT IS: This school has a lot of educational opportunities. You can be successful at Hamilton High school. It is ultimately what you make of it. I agree with some of the other reviews. Hamilton is not without problems (discipline, communication). All schools have problems. The key is navigating around those issues and still finding success. I think being able to thrive in an environment that can be challenging just makes you more resilient and prepared for the real world. Students need to find good peers, a learning community that they feel they belong to at Hamilton and in our experience they will succeed.

Obviously LAUSD schools have their benefits and liabilities, but as a product of the school system who went on to graduate from UC Berkeley and USC Law, I have faith in the system and believe that each student has the potential to succeed if they take advantage of all the resources available to them, even if their parents aren't able or willing to be at home tutors. Their are some great teachers and programs at this school and even though I can't comment on the academic performance, I can say that the staff and teachers that I did come into contact with through my volunteer program were all good faith actors who put their heart and soul into educating the youth and I look forward to returning to the community next semester!!!!

Today I am ready to write a review for the blot so new principal Mrs. Misdukes, twice I had incidents where this principal is not responsible for the well beign of my child who attends this school. The latest incident was enough for me, my child third grader was punched and bullied by a 5th grader, when my husband and I approached the principal to address the issue she would not even come out of her office to address our concerns regarding our child's safety, she brushed us off and stated that the incident happened at the Youthservices so she is not responsible, I will post the pics if how this 5th grader left my kid's leg and the not so new principal did not address the issue took responsibility for my child's safety. I would not recommend this principal to run ANY school.

The preschool director and the teachers are incredible, they love the kids so deeply and get to know all the families so well. The kids are challenged academically and it's been incredible to see how much our 4 year old has learned. They go on fun and exciting field trips, have access to extracurriculars and have a nice rotation of activities depending on the season (water play in summer, areal class in the fall etc). The hours are great for working parents and the kids are fed very healthy and interesting foods, helping to expand their palates. Each month they focus on a different global destination and they also learn about social issues in an age-appropriate way. I can't imagine a better preschool experience for our daughter and I'm so thankful for everything she has learned in such a short period of time!

A place that follows cutting edge research and embraces a joyful and loving atmosphere and works to free kids from the drudgery most schools unthinkingly and ill advisedly embrace. Argo Navis always has its heart in the right place and does what's best for kids----even when it hurts their bottom line. They are concerned with education not schooling. Wow! As an educator for over 30 years, I can't imagine a better school for my child; simply put: she is thriving there! The small class sizes and personalized teacher attention make the school unparalleled. They know her and work to help her find her passion. My kid has always loved making little newspapers. Guess what Argo did? They helped and supported her dream and published a school newspaper that she spearheaded---all in breath-taking speed, held up only by her. LOL. I have been involved with every type of school there is and believe me, something like this would never have happened in them or if it did, it would have taken so long and by the time the slow wheels of bureaucracy got it done, the passion and interest would have long dissipated. Argo's travel and real world experiences are the icing upon the cake. Scuba diving, babysitting class, sailing, aerial, hip hop dancing, World Peace camp. YOWZA! Every day, my child is happy and excited to get to school and I am thrilled to get here there. It is priceless. Yay Argo!

The Willows was the only school on my list that wasn't on the "Westside" and I was hesitant to even go to the tour because of that very reason, but I am so glad I did. Touring private schools is like being on the Bachelor. You get to know each other by going on dates (tours), spend money (applications), and one magical day (in March) you get a rose or not. Usually the process is very one sided being that there are way more applications than availability, but Willows never made me feel like they were dating anyone else. I toured a total of 5 schools, but Willows was the only school that sent me a thank you note for the time I spent on my tour. I'm sorry, but a gesture like that goes a long way. We as parents are expected to send follow up notes (hello beyondthebrochure), but to receive one- made me get butterflies. Who wants to date someone and not feel special? When I toured Willows, we lucked out and had Kim Feldman as our tour guide. She is not only the director of enrollment for the school, but she started there as a parent. I toured the school and was just in awe of their progressive approach. They recognize that every child learns differently- so they offer different approaches and strategies when it comes to teaching. This was the only school that I toured that left me wishing that I went to a school like this as a child. The school is warm and beautiful, but what makes the school stand out the most are the teachers and support staff. You can tell that everyone that works there loves their job and love what they represent. They genuinely care about you and your children. They are known throughout the community for hosting some exceptional parent education events - Besty Brown Braun, Dan Siegel, Frank Bruni, and etc were all speakers this year. They have a wonderful WPA and there's always events going on that promotes community and unity. If you are looking for a haven where your child will grow and thrive. Willows is it. My son has grown immensely not only intelligently, but emotionally as well. I credit them because they use the RULER approach which really resonated with him (so much that he wanted to make our very own "mood meter" at home). He has gained so much confidence and found his voice in such a short period of time here and I'll be forever grateful to the Willows because of it.

There are a handful of great teachers, but so many others that ruin the bunch. There are fist fights weekly, if not more often. It's not just the admin but there are some really awful families there too. It's every person for themselves at the valet line. People actually park in the street with their hazards on, or not, and block traffic until their kid comes out. And you have both sides of traffic doing this so the streets surrounding the school are gridlocked. The school has no power to do anything about it. There is no community within the school. I went to back to school night and one parent was asleep on the desk, another was taking calls loudly as the teacher tried to give her presentation, and other families that were letting their little ones run wild. It was a mess. Parents were eating fast food during the presentations. I was in disbelief at how grown people were behaving. I had a serious issue and called the principal 3 times and emailed him several times as well. He never got back to me. The coffee with the principal meetings are a waste of time. He umms and ahh's through most of it and literally reads what's on the power point. It took him months to figure out how to share his screen. It doesn't feel like there are professionals running the school. And the Nurse Kim is as mean as a honey badger. The kids are all afraid of her. Nurse White tries really hard to make up for it. The music program is amazing. Mr. Kaplan is dedicated to the kids and really cares. It's amazing how he takes kids with no musical experience and has them playing music that actually sounds like something. I hope he stays. He does so much to improve the school. They lost our registration paperwork twice. They put my son in the wrong program for the first two weeks of school and now he's still not in the right program. Sadly this is one of the better middle schools in LAUSD. It seems like most of the teachers are unhappy and don't like their jobs and therefore take it out on the kids. There is a lot of communication and god forbid you actually want to message them. I can't believe they just ignore emails. They call incessantly with their robo calls. They call you so much you have no idea what to pay attention to. Ms. Eschaveria and Ms. Roque are incredible but they are in the minority. If you have choices, go elsewhere. If not, hold your nose and power through and stay in conversation with your child to ensure they are safe.
