We thought things were going great there until about one year into it, we were told that our son was not progressing and that they recommended we look into other schools with smaller student:teacher ratios. My wife ended up finding a couple of options, and we landed on Grace Lutheran as the best spot. Our time here was only about four months, but we really loved it. We only ended up leaving because our son was enrolled in full-time ABA therapy. But if not for that, we absolutely would have kept him here until he started Kindergarten. Every staff member we ever dealt with was incredibly friendly and seemed like they genuinely enjoyed their job. And make no mistake, it is no easy job. Dealing with my own kid's issues is hard enough, I cannot imagine having to deal with several of them every day. These people are true saints. If I could change anything about Grace Lutheran, there are really only two things, but both are minor: 1) The first school we went to provided lunch, but Grace Lutheran did not. At first, I thought this would be a pretty major issue, but it really wasn't that big of a deal to send our son to school with a packed lunch. But if I had my choice, I would have preferred the school to make lunch. 2) They rarely uploaded photos of the kids at school. The first daycare we ever sent him to in Tampa would upload 10-20 photos a day, but most of them were blurry and near duplicates of other photos. That was excessive and pointless. But at Grace Lutheran, the might only upload one photo a month. A middle ground would be ideal, just to see the kids in action. But again, I understand the hectic nature of just keeping the kids out of trouble and that it's probably not easy to find time to take pictures. Overall, this is an excellent place to take your kiddo. If we could go back in time, we would have sent him here from day one!

We love this daycare so much! The staff is so caring and friendly, the teaxchers give the kids so much love and care. We love how everything is structured and organized. Regular diaper changes, all activities and photos logged in the app, amazing curriculum even for the little ones. The teach kids good manners, independent eating, cleaning up, songs, literacy and art. We also love the food there, probably the healthiest and most balanced menu out there. Our son has a food allergy, which was a big concern of ours when selecting his school. Primrose administrative staff promised to openly communicate with us from day 1 (Thank you Miss Woodson and Miss Montgomery), and consistently worked to ease our fears. The teachers always worked to make our son feel included in activities around food despite his allergy. Miss Singleton was integral in this, ensuring all staff were educated on what was okay and not okay for our son. In addition to these great experiences, what also sets this school apart is the teachers. We credit our child's speedy potty training to the school (Miss Clark), thank you! Our son loved all his teachers and genuinely looked forward to seeing them each day. He developed special bonds with each of his teachers, and we'd like to personally thank each of them for making him feel loved and safe each day. Thank you Miss Poorman, Miss Sowers, Miss Shoppe, Miss Warren, Miss Calderon, Miss Neal, Miss Clark, Miss D, and each of the teachers and staff who work hard to get to know our son despite not directly being his teacher. We quickly switched to Goddard and he was a completely different child. He was happy to go to school. He loved his teacher and all the other staff there. Unfortunately, with Covid, we took a hiatus for a few months with all the uncertainty. We are happy to report that we are back and still loving it here. I feel safe having my son go to school here. They have been keeping up with the Covid standards and test all their employees monthly. Everyone who enters the building and goes beyond the lobby receives a temperature screening and the children are reminded to wash their hands constantly. I am very pleased and will continue to have my child go to school here as long as possible.

The third time there was an incident, where my child was elbowed in the forehead (where she could have fallen backwards and hit her head), either the teacher or the Director (or both, I still can't tell) actually lied and said nothing happened and my child made it up and was "attention-seeking." Later on, the Director emailed us and admitted there WAS an incident but it was an accident and "not a reportable incident." We have had our children in many daycares throughout Houston and this is the first time I have ever encountered a facility where no incident reports are given, accident or not, and people actually lie and blame children. Unacceptable. My six year old told me that in their class, they did not read books on their own, the teacher made fun of a child for getting an answer wrong on a spelling game they were playing to the whole class for the rest of the day, and also, that when kids fell (by accident), the parents were never told. These are just a few examples. This place is shady as hell and definitely not educating your kids. We only got a refund for our tuition after threatening to go to the Texas Department of Health and Human Services.

I did not and still do not like the principal - she seems very plastic to me and usually sporting an expression like she has no idea what's going on but is doing a good job of faking it. The very first day when we were doing things "wrong" she in a very rude tone asked had we been at parent/teacher night before school started and we said no we were out of town. I didn't feel like there was a problem as I had spoken to my son's teacher before the first day. But what anyone neglected to mention was anything about procedures for dropping and picking children up so when the principal spoke to us using terms as if we had any idea what she was referring to it furthered my dislike of her. I have since learned this is her very first year not only at this school but as a principal period. That explained a lot. She's desperately trying to show off her capability but is going about it with too much effort so she looks scattered in anything she does. Parents are allowed to drop kid off in the morning after signing in at the office which includes them scanning your photo ID and being given a sticker with your ID and where you will be printed upon it. But parents are not even allowed into the building in the afternoon for pick up - not even the Pre K or kindergartners for supposed security reasons. Why it's different for the afternoon than morning is anyone's best guess. They are constantly begging for volunteers and cannot seem to figure out why they have so few when they have such a cold, unwelcoming, unfriendly policy for/with the parents. The very first week my 5 year old in his first year was given homework! This shock and astounded me in a very bad way. I even asked my father for confirmation and he agreed that when I was in school we didn't start getting homework until second grade. It's a very tedious "chore" to make a child that young sit and do a worksheet or two a night. I'm still not thrilled with it but there's not much I can do unless I do want to remove him from the public school system. I had problems with his teacher at first. My child had never been in any kind of school environment and I made this very well known to her. The 2nd or 3rd week of school she sent a note home 3 out of 5 days saying my child didn't do his work and would I talk to him about that! That upset me in about 18 different colours! What did she want *me* to do about a problem she was having with my child during *her* time with him. I was not going to punish him or curtail any activities because at age 5 he would have already dismissed anything said to him by her earlier in the day. A meeting was scheduled for myself, his teacher and the counselor. Then hurricane Ike hit! The school was closed for a week and two days. They opened a Wed almost 2 weeks before HISD did though the vast majority of teachers' and students' homes still had no power or water. I still find this lapse inexcusable! How could staff members properly prepare for a day with no water or power? How could parents properly prepare their children for school without power or water. Oh they said it was perfectly okay to not being the kids if there was no power or water on - it would just be excused absences. But now my child has 3 absences on his record that I do not think should be there at all! After the time off from the hurricane when he did get back to school my child suddenly got right into the swing of things and all the skills I'd told them he already possessed came shining through. A meeting was scheduled for me his teacher and the counselor only for a different reason this time. They asked was I okay having him go over to one of the First grade classes for reading and having him nominated for the gifted and talented program after the winter break was over? No I have no problem with that at all. I have since volunteered for the book fair {I got horribly sick too}. And have a much better relationship with his teacher and most of the staff. I am not sure if I will ever warm up to the principal ever.

While there are some positives, ultimately the cons outweighed the pros, and we made the decision to withdraw him. One of our biggest concerns was the lack of structure and classroom management, particularly with teachers Amy and Natalie (science and ELA). It never felt like they truly cared about our son as an individual, and issues at school were never communicated to us as parents. We've had our child in private schools for years and have never encountered some of the incidents we experienced here, incidents that were genuinely appalling. The school seems to promote freedom and compassion, but in our experience, that often masked a lack of accountability and consistency. Natalie, the reading teacher, was known for favoritism towards certain students (especially the girls), and this was widely acknowledged among the students but never addressed by leadership. Behavior issues in the classroom were often ignored, and there was no real structure in place to support student discipline or teacher accountability. Academically, we were disappointed by the lack of real assessment and instruction especially in reading and grammar. Grammar, for example, was only corrected during portfolio work, but not actively taught. We had to hire outside tutoring just to get our son up to grade level. After an assessment for a new school, we discovered he wasn't at grade level for math either. In summary, while the school may present a warm and progressive image, the day-to-day reality did not reflect true care, structure, or educational quality. Children need both freedom and clear boundaries, and above all, they need educators who see and support them as individuals. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here. I cannot recommend this school.
