We stayed in The Garden Room, which Michael had told me was due to be renovated. We found it to be charming and extremely comfortable. The bed was two twins pushed together with a memory foam to make a King and dressed with a cloud-like duvet and the nicest pillows I've slept on. Lying in bed, you can see the garden and the fall leaves coming down. The room was located on the main floor off the parlour and it felt as though we had the whole place to ourselves. We had a game of chess and some wine between the play and our dinner reservation and a nice chat with Michael on the comfortable couch. The property is gorgeous with a heated pool that we obviously couldn't use since it was late October, and a newly built gazebo. The house, itself, built in 1872 is stately and charming. It really stands out as one of the most distinctive homes on the street. It was a short and beautiful walk to the Theater and our dinner reservation. The coffee in the morning was fabulous and Anna's breakfast was delicious-- a strata of vegetables, bacon and cheese with English muffins, fruit and a warm fruit pastry. Michael kept our coffee cups full over conversation with the other guests who were funny and friendly. On our way out, they gave us some muffins and bottles of water for our foraging expedition. The hospitality provided by Anna and Michael was exceptional and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again while in Stratford and would gladly recommend it to anyone. Next time, we'll have to book the balcony room and go when the pool is open!

Close to downtown yet still in a quiet, sleepy residential area of its own. It's a longer walk from the train station (our walk wasn't helped by a -36C blizzard!), but still within reasonable walking distance (I'd say 25 mins max). Making a reservation was easy. Koleen & Ron responded immediately and confirmed our booking. At $110 a night, The Jester Room was a steal. There's no tv, and the room isn't giant, but the comfort couldn't be beaten. The bed was large and luxurious, the bathroom was perfectly appointed and there was plenty of closet and mirror space. There was even a complementary bottle of Merlot as well as chocolates and wine waiting for us in the room! (I assume this was a Valentine's special). Just outside the room there was a mini bar and a myriad of bath and shower items to pick from. The wifi was fast and consistent and there were some really fun and interesting books and magazines left in the room (Famous Quotes about Canada, for example). The breakfast of fresh fruit, yoghurt, sausage eggs benedict and tea/coffee was absolutely delicious. Our hosts made stimulating and thoroughly enjoyable company and gave us invaluable information about the Shakespeare festival on in the summer. We are making it a point to return to Stratford in May and will definitely be staying here for our next visit.

As for the actual space, the attractions were spread about - think mini pop-ups leading up towards a bigger instalment that kind of combines all the previous scattered pop-ups. It seemed like something very grandiose when advertised, but fell a little bit short of expectations despite trying to come in with low expectations. I'm not entirely sure if it was worth the 2 hour drive to get here, but at least I can say I showed up and got to see what Stratford had to offer for their annual yearly festivities during the winter season. Went in to check out some cruises and the agent Louise was so helpful and nice to us it was a no…read morebrainer we had to book here. Took us through all aspects of what we could expect ,what we wanted and not wanting.The whole process took just a few days and it looks like we are off next year to Rome. I visited the River Garden Inn during the "shoulder season", and was able to book the room the same…read moreday. Not much to say - you get what you pay for. Reasonably priced, and the rooms are big, clean, and nicely furnished (photos on the website are accurate). The bathroom was also well kept and spacious. If you stay here you'll also have access to the indoor pool, but I wouldn't recommend it since the water is quite shallow and the pool itself small. Was given a coupon for the buffet breakfast (which I thought was a bonus since I wouldn't mind paying the same amount for the room only). The breakfast itself was 'meh' (no fresh fruit in sight), but at least the coffee was good! If I ever spend another night in Stratford (unlikely) - I'd definitely come back here.
