Second visit to discuss surgery was exactly as fine! From entering to leaving their office, I felt like a very special person, a king!!! Their work is excellent, including Dr. Gallagher's. The surgery went as he had explained. The recovery was as expected. Candidly, the first 2 weeks was a bit uneasy. But the two catheters into the upper and lower knee kept pain at bay for the first 5 days. Then the Prescriptions definitely helped me minimize pain for the next 4 weeks until I was out and about. I ran out of one of the meds and used the portal to reach Dr. Gallagher. He ordered those from my neighborhood pharmacy and my wife picked them up in couple of hours. I'm new to Austin so it can be challenging to find a provider you feel comfortable with, especially…read moreif it is going to involve surgery. I moved here from CA and I knew plenty of Orthopedic surgeons and had considered even flying back out there. But a good friend highly recommended Dr. John Paul Rodriguez so I decided to give it a try. I had never had a knee problem but after my first visit, and imaging, it was determined I had a meniscal tear. The pain was pretty bad but I was able to walk with some assistance. When I met with Dr. Rodriguez again, he gave me a choice of surgery or waiting it out. Initially, wanting this to go away sooner, I opted for surgery. But as we were getting into scheduling the surgery, I had decided to wait it out and see if it would get better. After a full year, my knee pain had significantly improved, but I could still feel what I could only guess was the tear. It was worse with certain activities and it was starting to limit what I normally was able to do. So, after a year of conservative treatment, I decided to revisit Dr. Rodriguez. Something I really appreciated is they didn't make me start all over from square one. We essentially picked up where I had left things. I felt I did as much as I could to give the knee a chance to heal if it was going to but realized this was basically as good as it was going to get non-surgically. Dr. Rodriguez really listened to me and ultimately we agreed to go ahead with the surgery. A special thanks goes out to Madison Gaul, Dr. Rodriguez's surgery scheduler. She was exceptionally helpful in getting me scheduled on a date and time that worked for me. She was very clear about everything I needed in order to get clearance for the surgery and very accommodating with the scheduling. The day of the surgery could not have been more uneventful. I had surgery at their surgery center and everyone involved was very nice and did everything they could to make sure I was comfortable. I blinked my eyes and the next thing I knew I was in recovery. They had already called the person who was going to give me a ride and as soon as I was a bit more alert, I was able to leave. Post-operatively I really didn't know what to expect with respect to pain. I will call it "Tylenol" or "Ibuprofen" pain because that was all I needed that first night. My leg was wrapped in a compression dressing that I needed to leave on for 10 days until my next visit. And during the ten days, I was able to bear weight and didn't even need the crutches I had and never needed anything stronger than ibuprofen. At my first post-op appointment, all was well. They removed the sutures and addressed all of my questions which were primarily about when I could resume bike riding. It has been just a little over six months and I cannot say enough good things about this practice and Dr. Rodriguez. My knee feels so great, I often forget I had surgery this year. I don't regret taking the year to see if it would get better, but I am so happy I had the surgery. I am back to riding my bike 10 - 20 miles a day and have even done some long 30 mile rides. I have not needed to even take an ibuprofen in more than four months and my knee feels as great as the uninjured knee.

Between the scheduling errors, lack of communication, and dismissive follow-up appointment, I left feeling that my time, concerns, and ongoing pain were of little importance. During my initial appointment, Dr. Onan ordered both cervical and thoracic MRIs. The original imaging facility couldn't schedule me for three weeks, so I contacted his office to see whether I could have the studies completed sooner. His staff arranged for me to have the imaging performed at their facility that same week. However, the day before my appointment, I received a call informing me that the cervical MRI had not been authorized because the staff member responsible had forgotten to request approval when scheduling the thoracic MRI. I explained that I needed both studies, particularly given the severity of my symptoms. Instead, I was left with the prospect of obtaining another authorization, scheduling another appointment, making another three-hour drive, and paying additional copays and deductible expenses, all because of an administrative oversight. At my follow-up appointment, I explained these circumstances to Dr. Onan. Rather than acknowledging the inconvenience or offering a reasonable solution, he simply reiterated that the cervical MRI was still needed. There appeared to be little concern for the additional burden his office's mistake had created. What disappointed me most was the follow-up consultation itself. Dr. Onan appeared unfamiliar with my previous visit and the symptoms I had discussed. He briefly reviewed the MRI summary, stated that surgery was not indicated and therefore there was nothing for him to do, and asked whether I had any questions. That was essentially the extent of the appointment. I understand that not every orthopedic condition requires surgery, and I certainly wasn't seeking an unnecessary procedure. I was seeking a thorough evaluation, an explanation of my symptoms, and some direction toward identifying the cause of my ongoing pain. Instead, I received what felt like a rushed dismissal, with no meaningful discussion of alternative treatment options or next steps. Patients invest considerable time and money seeking specialized medical care, often while dealing with significant pain. At a minimum, they deserve attentive communication, competent scheduling, and a physician who takes the time to understand their concerns. Unfortunately, that was not my experience with Texas Orthopedics or Dr. Onan. I would not recommend this practice based on the care and service I received.

Fast forward to March 2012 when I fell on my right shoulder and had a full thickness tear to my rotator cuff. She repaired it and after several weeks of PT the shoulder works great! In 2013, I was having problems with my left shoulder and once again went to see Dr. Hyde. This shoulder was even worse than the right shoulder. She spent a lot of time in the surgery suite making sure everything was addressed in the shoulder. I am now 2 months post-op and the range of motion is almost completely back. She is a great surgeon that my husband is now going to have total knee replacement in the coming months.

Taylor Lackey is professional, knowledgeable, and very well manages his time. Most of my visits, I have be able to see him in just 5 minutes. Only one time that I needed to wait about half an hour. Overall never a very long wait. Dr. Lackey well planed and it really helped saving patients' time. When he knew the reasons of my visit, he ordered me for an x-ray in prior to see him, and he told me that I could call to get an MRI order without the need to go to his office again. I have seen Dr. Lackey for my tennis and golf elbows, my dislocated tendon at my pinky finger, and lately a lump at my inner elbow. He is very attentive and provided me with the necessary physical therapy and medication. Claudia, Dr. Lackey's Medical Assistant, has been very kind, considerate, and attentive. She has tried her best to coordinate the doctor's orders and the x-ray unit in order to make it as fast and effective as possible. She has gone over everything slowly to make sure I understand everything right. Maybe the clinic has been too busy lately causing me a hard time reaching her. I left 2 voice messages and have been waiting over 48 hours, but never got a call back. I needed to leave the 3rd message before getting a call back causing me almost unable to get my MRI scheduled before my long trip. The front desk ladies or the scheduling ladies are very nice, always very helpful and are excellent at their jobs! When she knew I couldn't get a schedule at Austin Sports Medicine Lab, she recommended me 3 other labs in Austin and the near by areas and fax out my MRI order to all other labs right away. Finally, I could get my MRI scheduled on the last day before my traveling. I have experienced some difficulty at the x-ray unit inside Austin Sports Medicine. I have had conditions at both of my arms, but the x-ray technologist did the x-ray only one of my arms. I told him right away, but he refused to check even if I asked him politely and more than one time. When Claudia found out, she talked to the technologist and asked him to do the x-ray again for my another arm. Instead of fixing the mistake and having me next in line, he seemed upset and put me the last in line! And this time I waited over 30-40 minutes and still couldn't get an x-ray. Ended up Claudia told me that Dr. Lackey would pull my old x-ray for my another arm, so I didn't need to wait longer. I just wish the technologist was cared to listen to patients and spent a little time double check things. It could help prevent the mistakes from happening and save a large a mount of time for both patients and himself. In Sum: I highly recommend Austin Sports Medicine and Dr J. Taylor Lackey!

Not very impressed with this office at all…read more First - There is zero parking available. (The worst I've ever seen at a doctor's office). People were circling, and alot were parked illegally, even in the grass. I was forced to park next door at all the retail shops, even though there were a ton of signs saying they'd tow. Not really a great first impression. Second - My appointment with Dr. Meghpara felt very rushed, and was not near as thorough as other doctor's I've seen (and what I would require to consider it a worthwhile visit). It was my fault for not getting x-rays from another doctor over in time before my appointment (the office didn't remind me to bring any, and I honestly just didn't think about it until a few days before). I did bring my MRI images and report, and he basically said he had no use for those. I asked if we should take another X-ray at the office, so that he could see my current state, and he basically said it wasn't necessary. He also had me do only a few movements in the office (totaling about 10 seconds) to test out my pain, whereas two other doctors had alot more comprehensive exam. He then proceeded to give me his opinion without examining any x-rays or (from what it seemed) the MRI CDs I had brought in. He just went off of what I told him my situation was, what my last doctor had said (a few weeks before), and basically agreed with that assessment. At this point I was just ready to leave, as I was already disappointed and knew that he is not a doctor I would return to. I wish I would've just avoided going there for another opinion, and wasting $80.

He debrided the AC joint and removed a severely inflamed bursa (bursitis). Initially we were thinking it was a torn rotator cuff (supraspinatus) but thankfully it ended up being much less severe of a diagnosis after he got in there with the arthroscope. Doctor Graham is extremely intelligent and is an obvious expert in his field. I'm friends with 3 very good doctors in unrelated fields and they all had rave reviews for Dr. Graham. I would absolutely recommend Robert Graham for any shoulder work you need done.

At her second appointment -- just 10 days after the fracture -- Dr. Robert Blais asked about her pain level. She explained that she was still experiencing significant pain. At that point, he stated he was concerned she could have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). We were stunned. It had been 10 days since a confirmed broken bone. From what we understand, pain at that stage is not unusual. While waiting for imaging, my daughter searched CRPS online. She discovered it is sometimes referred to as the "suicide disease" because of the severe, chronic pain associated with advanced cases. By the time we left the appointment, she was in tears -- terrified that she was facing a life-altering diagnosis. Whether CRPS should or should not have been mentioned that early is a medical judgment. What is not debatable is the emotional impact of introducing a severe, worst-case condition to a 22-year-old patient so soon after a routine fracture -- without clear context about probability, diagnostic criteria, or reassurance. The result was immediate and profound distress. Physicians absolutely have a duty to consider complications. They also have a responsibility to communicate carefully, proportionately, and with awareness of the psychological impact their words carry. This was our experience. Parents and patients: ask questions. Ask about likelihood. Ask about timing. Ask whether a concern is common, rare, or simply precautionary. And if something feels disproportionate, seek a second opinion. Advocacy matters.
