I went for the full package: haircut with wash, paraffin treatment for my hands, and face, neck, and scalp massage. Plus, a hot lather shave with an additional facial massage. The result? My haircut is fine--not "$77 fine," but fine. It's not exactly what the associate and I had agreed upon, but passable. The pampering was pleasant--not Middle East spa pleasant, but pleasant. The shave, however, was not okay. Not just "not $65 okay," but "I do it better myself in front of the mirror" not okay. When I got home, I was greeted with: "I hope you didn't pay for that shave." The left side of my chin had a small patch of blood oozing (not much, but still--not $65 okay). My jaw still had noticeable stubble, as did the area under my chin. It didn't look tidy. The staff were very polite, helpful, and kind--though perhaps a bit too sales-oriented. For a total of $130, I expected more--especially in the delivery of their core services: haircut and shave. It's a pity. I really wanted this to become my go-to barber. But I'm still looking for the right one. 2 stars.

And also no longer do the aftershave splash on the neck and behind the ear. But the trade-off is that they did two things I never expected. First, they also took care of some growing hair in and around both ears. And second, they washed my head. I think it's a good trade-off. But it is pricey here. 5 Stars Vibe: Masculine quasi-old-school-and-modern vibe. 5 Stars Overall: 5 Stars

If any of you ladies are looking for a new hair salon, please give this place a shot. I promise you won't be disappointed. I absolutely love this place! I've been coming here for about 2+ years now and I always see Cindy. I try to come in about every 2-3 months to get a trim or conditioning treatment. The firs time I came here I got my hair dyed and she did a fantastic job. No pics sorry! Upon entering, I'm always greeted by a friendly host and then my most favorite hair stylist comes out and greets me with a hug and a smile. She sits me down at the wash station and washes my hair and then lays a warm towel on me while she's washing my hair. After the shampoo and conditioner, we go back to trim/cut my hair and style it. Service: My service fee for a hair cut is $85 and Kerasilk treatment for $45. Hair cut: Cindy does a fantastic job. She creates the best layers that fits my face and adds volume to my hair. Nothing negative to say about her. She's wonderful. Treatment: have pretty long, thin and fine hair so I try to get the Kerasilk treatment every time I come in. The treatment conditioning and moisturizes my hair because I usually come in with dry and tangly hair and the treatment helps with it. Cindy always does a blow out for me and I hate to brag about myself but my hair looks fabulous! Will continue to come here for Cindy! Love this place!

I also noticed they recently moved into a new location, so they're still getting settled in, but that didn't take away from the top-notch experience. I'm still on the fence about committing to a membership, so I'm giving myself a couple of days to think it over. One thing I noticed was a bit of emphasis on product sales, especially at checkout when some items were presented to me. I understand the business side of it--these aren't products you'd typically find at your local HEB--and I appreciated that the checkout staff gave me the option rather than any pressure. I ended up choosing just the mold rather than the full set that was offered. All in all, it was a great experience, and I'd definitely consider coming back when I want to feel like a Gent and a King!

Upon the recommendations posted on Nextdoor and Yelp, I decided to try Mercer Salon for a haircut…read moreand colour. I went in on a Saturday to make my appointment specifically with Odilia for the following Wednesday. Fortunately, I was able to briefly speak with her to discuss what I wanted - highlights [3 colours] and a good haircut; she told me her prices for each and, being in line with what I've paid in the past, solidified the appointment. I arrived at 11:30 am. We took a few minutes to discuss what I wanted, both in colour and cut. I repeated that I wanted highlights and that I usually have three colours used; I showed her two different pictures of my own hair colour for reference. Odilia commented, "You really like your golden blonde." (see profile photo) Was told that I would be out of there in "three hours, tops" (sounds about right - I have lot of hair). Odilia comes out with two tubs of colour - a highlight and a lowlight. I never asked for a lowlight, but this is not my profession and maybe she sees something I don't. This was a very slow process. Literally. I have never in my life had the back of my hair finish processing and be rinsed before the rest of my hair is processed under a dryer. When the colouring is complete, there is cutting. A lot of cutting. More cutting than I requested, but my hair grows fast and it's really not a big deal. And, in all honesty, it is a good healthy cut. FIVE HOURS + LATER (yes, you read that correctly) and nearly $400 lighter - I walk out with taupe / light brown hair. Not even close to what I asked for when I walked in. And I was charged for lowlights, something I never requested. Salon lighting is always different than home lighting, so I thought maybe it wasn't really as dark as it appeared. Nope, it was. I immediately called the salon and spoke with Odilia, explaining that nobody's happy and this isn't going to work. Giving credit where credit is due - she offered to correct it immediately, but my time constraints did not allow for me to return for two weeks. During this time, girlfriends said the colour was beautiful (honestly, it was)...but definitely not "my" colour. While many of you may have had, or continue to have, a positive experience at this salon - I did not.
