With that being said, it was their first year being open, so there was minor hiccups, but nothing we found to be a problem. The Great Hearts curriculum and culture is exactly what we thought it would be. My daughter never spent more than 30 minutes on homework each day, and we felt the uniform policy was easy to follow. The other big factor for us was the community. When you go to Great Hearts Invictus, it's not just a school, it's a community that spends time together and really builds relationships. I loved this! I dove right in and have been pretty involved with the school, and I found this to be useful to know what's going on and be able to be present for certain things. I have recommended this school to family/friends, and I will continue to do so.

But let me tell u from a student perspective, your kid will get bullied, and ur kid will come home every day a little more depressed. I recommend avoiding this school and only using it as a last resort. It is very unorganized, and the expectations for the students are unreasonably high. They expect perfection every time and the punishments are severe if you don't meet the exact criteria... It literally strikes fear into the hearts of the students. and while i agree that some degree of fear is good, i also believe that the amount of fear that this school gives is a dangerous amount. And while i will give this school credit for having a phenomenal course and teachings, but in the end, the cons outweigh the pros, by A LOT. My advice for elementary kids if u do go: Just follow the rules, keep ur head down, and don't cause a commotion. My advice for middle school kids if you do go: STAY AWAY FFROM THE GIRLS THERE, they are VERY toxic... and my advice for high school kids if u do go there: Find a girlfriend quick before all of them are taken and just go through the depression great hearts gives you together. Pls stay away from the school but if you do end up going... follow my advice. I warned you. - Reed Mac

Some of the "facilitator" staff would yell and berate us verbally picking on personal attributes and private performance information with everybody listening out in open spaces. i can recall a moment when i was on my laptop and i was just playing a game on my free time and i laughed at a joke a teacher made not even provoking him. he then proceeded to announce and i quote "yeah and i laugh the same way when i look at your grades!". situations like that and the degrading treatments i endured linger on me still to this day and it feeds into my paranoia and depression. im genuinely afraid to talk to my professors at the college i attend now because i just have this subconcious fear that im taking up their time and that if they know that i dont understand everything that theyll think less of me and that ill be nothing more then a verbal punching bag in their eyes despite repeated reassurances by the college staff that that isnt how they think but regardless no matter how much they show that theyre happy and willing to help i just cant bring myself to ask them because i think about what would happen if i tried to seek help at afia and choose id rather not bother anybody. any time i see grades and any note left by professors even if positive i cant help but click out before i can read too much; my eyes water regardless of the message. this "school" is a cesspool of unprofessional behaviour and psychological torment and rather contrary to their motto i failed to "belong", i failed to "find joy" even going to the mental hospital to be diagnosed with depression mid school year, and i most certainly did not learn how to "be great" as im left a few months after graduation feeling anything but great and more something around the likes of defeated, irrationally afraid and depressed. on the psychological care side of things there is virtually nothing done to try to help those that are in a poor mental state theres no consideration for the depressed, theres no actions taken to help those overstimulated by struggles in life even if it had the potential to be a danger to oneselves. a unfortunate occurance regarding lack of mental health care and intervention i recall was one time after i came back from the mental hospital scared and barely holding myself together with the persistant and frightening subconcious thoughts, despite establishing the trust issues i had with them historically at the time, i went to the office of one of the administrative staff to maybe seek help and ask what to do as i was afraid to really talk to anyone about it and i was desperate for any lifeline that wouldnt immediately upset and cause turmoil amongst my family and close friends so i sat down in the office with tears falling from my eyes and asked what i should do in case i were to "dissappear", referring to the mental hospital, mentioning explicitly how i didnt feel good in my mind and that i was frightened of what may happen to me. and do you know what the response was? she handed me an agenda and basically told me that i should use it to organize my schedule and in direct response to my comment about myself disappearing said "okay lets not do that". and thats all she said before ushering me out. i conclude my review saying if i could i would leave a lower rating and the fact that they turned off and deleted google reviews is VERY telling. i would never wish to ever experience something like this again and seriously, if braination cares about what little positive reputation this school has left then they must take action now and intensively review the performance of administrative staff of afia. I believe the idea and intention is absolutely wonderful but it just doesnt live up to the promises and so im left traumatized into the start of the real world.

Hear No Evil*See No Evil*Speak No Evil Hood said he planned on being there a long time, but he's apparently gone already, as so many before him. Could've seen that coming from a million miles away. By the way, Cornerstone had my first review taken down, as I now suspect many other critical reviews have been. Cornerstone has had some amazing people, Mr Harrison, Mr Puente, Mrs Puente (God rest her soul), Mr Hudspeth, Mr Sessions, Coach Navarrete, Mrs Ruvalcaba, and others, but the administration changes constantly! The big secret is, untouchable families, who do whatever they want, whenever they want, however they want; many are athletes and staff from the church and school. Shouldn't be that way, but we experienced it over & over. So, we left. Many others have left for the same reasons. A friend living near the school took their kids out because the administration wouldn't deal with the untouchables harassing their child who's on the spectrum. They told us 3 other families -on-their-street- left also. Cornerstone should be training up a righteous generation, but instead they're just coddling untouchables. Sad... Change must come from the top. We can only hope & pray.

They also have supplies occasionally, like older computers or school furniture. I believe I saw microscopes for sale last time I was there, but this is primarily a book store, and that's what they have loads of. The staff seems to be very helpful and friendly, and they have a very impressive collection of second-hand curriculum. Our kids have been at SPX for 4 years now and plan to continue a few more years through 8th grade. The school has been fantastic for the kids and the family. They have great educators and administrators and strong ties with the church and parish community. They have a new and growing early child development center daycare that looks great. I've heard nothing but good things though my kids did not participate in that. CYO (archdiocese sports league mainly for elementary age kids) is very popular and is very active with lots of great volunteer coaches. It's open to all the community. Our kids loved CYO when they were in elementary and it really helped build community with kids and parents. The gym is top notch as is the softball / soccer field. The school has a lot of electives and activities for the kids to get involved in including but not limited to: art projects, plays, mathletes, RISE, STEM, piano recitals, volunteer opportunities, market day projects, altar serving, stations of the cross, adoration, reconciliation, school Halloween carnival, parish festival, field trips, tours of high schools, athletics, school dances, etc. The PTC does a lot of great things for the teachers and kids through fundraisers (Gala, spirit night, shirt sales, dances, etc.) The Watch DOGS program is active where dads, grandpas, uncles, etc. come and help in classrooms, at lunch, and help make the school day fun and safe. The kids love their teachers and classmates and we couldn't be happier.

After trying everything and any way of communication with teachers I decided the public school was the problem and not my child as they were not funded adequately to help someone like my daughter. I looked into various schools and KIPP was the best option and selection for me. Within 6 months of attending KIPP Esperanza, I saw a huge leap in her learning skills and her behavior totally changed. It took comprehensive and patient staff at KIPP less than a month to know the type of help my kid needed to formulate an education plan for her. My oldest is now going to 5th and her middle sister is now attending kinder with her. KIPP will remain our selection until all three of my girls graduate. Especially with a 100% college acceptance rate.
