Pretty cute, small place. Quiet, not too many people inside on a Friday night, but it made it feel more relaxed, like it was an unknown treasure. The servers were very friendly and kind. Ordered a mango smoothie and a ginseng milk shake, and both were made very fresh and delicious. The Gun Mandu dumplings were okay, I've had better. The Spicy Pork Bulgogi was tasty and a good amount of spicy, very good flavor. The Dolsot Bibimbap was prepared very fresh and hot, served on the hot stone pot. Great soups for a cold day. The specialty of the house is a whole Cornish hen stuffed with sticky rice with whole root ginger. Also ordered bulgogi stew. Both served in ceramic hot pots. The atmosphere is bright clean and quiet. Parking in the rear. Tried the soups as a change from the typical bulgogi and Kalbi. Would definitively recommend a return visit. One difficulty was asking waitress how to eat the soups as they were shared. We were given one bowl of sticky rice and one white rice so I think spooning the soups over the rice would be the way to go. read more

The food is good, but due to high expectation based on other reviews, I was a bit disappointed. The beef patties tastes good, but my friend says it's no match to Sozai Bonzai's. Really disappointed in the service and food quality. They gave us rice which was not even half full so I ordered extra which they charged for. Came out exactly the same. The food quality is not good. When I first walked in, I noticed the small coffee machine outside. I wanted to try the coffee and it was not a waste of .$50 ! It was my first time coming here to try the chicken ginseng soups. We started out with the seafood pancake and steamed egg. I thought the steamed egg was ok. Nothing special to me. But I love their seafood pancake. It was so crispy all over. I think I can eat the whole thing. Haha. Our entrees include a beef bulgogi, spicy squid, and two different ginseng soups (first two on the menu). I was not impressed with the beef bulgogi. The taste was normal and nothing special I acknowledged. The spicy squid was my favorite. I love tithe combination of carrots and zucchini mixed with the squid. I could not stop eating it. The soups were quite delicious. I love the sticky rice inside the chicken. The chicken is tender and soup is has a strong chicken flavor. I didn't really taste the ginseng though! The food here is so good and comforting!! First time I came here, I got the Yukgaejang (Spicy Beef Soup) which was delicious and had amazing flavor. Spice level was good for me. The second time, I ordered the Ssyal Samgye-Tang (Ginseng Cornish Hen Soup), which is what they're known for, and it was so flavorful yet light and I feel like it healed my soul! The meat falls right off the bone. It's a pretty hearty portion so I had leftovers to take home. Both times, I ordered the Haemul Pajeon (Seafood Pancake) because it's my go-to appetizer at Korean restaurants, and it does not disappoint!! Perfect balance of crispy and chewy. Looks like the it has been changed hand. It is now running under parent and their son. It was a joke how they handling the business. They messed up our table and the other two tables next to us. One of my spicy tofu soup was given to the wrong table. It was sitting on the wrong table over 10 minutes while everyone was chitchatting all over it. The waitress/boss lady then transferred the soup to me without any hesitation. I immediately told her, I don't want it for sanitize reasons. She brought it back into the kitchen. After 3 minutes, a new tofu soup has delivered to my table. It is a fresh bubbling soup with a raw egg on the surface. As I am ready to dig in, I found a well cooked egg inside the soup. Wow.. there are two eggs (1 cooked and 1 raw). She reboiled the old soup adding a fresh egg on the top. She was trying to be slick but totally forgot about the well cooked egg. read more

This is Literally the best Samgye Tang place in Chicago. I always love to get samgye tang and sea fools pancake during winter time. The food was cooked perfectly -- seafood was fresh, fluffy, and flavorful , and the samgye tang was rich and nutritious. Strongly recommend overall! The only potty is that the restaurant locates in north of Chicago and pretty far ways from the center of city. But I'd say it's totally worth it to come here. read more

We came here around noon and were super excited to order their jjimdak since this is a Michelin recommended restaurant. Their Andong jjimdak is soo delicious! We ordered for two people and when they brought it out on a trolley we were so surprised by how large the serving portion was! Full of glass noodles, potato pieces, sliced carrots, onions , ample glass noodles and lots of chicken this was enough for probably a family of four adults! OK. I was feeling a tad under the weather a while back and I was doing my research. I wanted to try the soup. In all honesty, my Korean culinary game is weak sauce. I am just a baby to this AMAZINGLY tasty world. The famious soups is pretty light for my taste. On a whim, I tried the Tteok-bokki as a side dish. I make it at home and I love it so...treat yo self. H.O.L.Y. S.H.I.T. This is hands down one of my top 5 dishes in the city. It's heady and spicey and rich and chewy and the addition of fish cake and cabbage is just genius. I've never had it like this. This blew my mind and will forever be the BAR that I set for this dish. The Galbi might be my favorite thing to stand over the sink and eat at like 11:30pm at night. I'm in pain dealing with a flu, and that hit me the night before and I still dragged myself to work this morning. However, I left work early because my whole body ached, and unexpectedly, there was an image coming across my brain: ginseng chicken soup. I don't live far at all from this place, and I passed here a million times via CTA 81 Lawrence bus. I always wanted to try their ginseng chicken soup because my mom would fix this for me when I was sick back home. I no longer have Mom with me, but I have a husband! He volunteered to travel there to do a take-out order. How sweet! The ginseng chicken soup was great. The broth was mild, flavorful, and excellent for a sick patient like myself. The chicken was tender and came straight of the bones. I had to be careful with those little bones because I accidentally swallowed a couple of pieces. They include the sea salt with pepper if you want to adjust the salinity of the broth. That was a nice touch. My hubby ordered the stir-fry squids. This also came with the bean sprout soup and white rice. The entire ordered came with five (5) different banchans (kimchi, horseradish, pickled cucumbers, tofu skins, and black beans). The squids were good but not anything out of the world. We couldn't finish all the banchans. Thus off the refrigerator they went. The total came to about $34. Yeah, this is an once-in-awhile splurge. I don't do that often to ensure my wallet is "healthy" as well. read more

We had the spicy ribs and they were freaking fantastic.. thank you sticky rice for helping to defuse the fire LOL. We also loved the bulgogi bimbop. Rich and filling without the full bloatyness of a hearty stew, the Ginseng chicken is a subtler satisfaction. Rich in flavor when you open the whole chicken cavity releasing the smooth, creamy rice, ginseng and Jujubes into the delicate broth. The Banchan is just enough and lend an assist with an occasional crunchy texture. as the chicken melt in your mouth.
