They insisted everything was built properly. Still, when we attempted installation, it became clear the measurements were off. Wanting to move forward, we offered to pay them an additional fee to install the staircase properly, since they were adamant that they'd fit. Following the owner's instructions, we even temporarily secured the stairs with 2x4s so their team could come back and complete the install with the railings a month later. Instead, they cancelled on us with just one day's notice. We brought in two other stair companies (WoodHaven and Specialty Stairs & Rail), both of which confirmed the obvious: the staircase was built to the wrong measurements and wouldn't work. Rather than taking responsibility, American Stairs told us we could receive a refund, but only if we return the stairs in the same condition they were delivered, knowing full well that would leave us without access to our upstairs for 10+ weeks while we wait for new stairs. We're now left with a half-installed, unsafe staircase with no railing, a serious safety concern with two small children in the home. Despite giving American Stairs & Railings multiple opportunities to make things right, they've shown no accountability or professionalism, leaving us in a costly, unfinished, and hazardous situation.

The hand rails were not screwed into the studs and pulled out of the walls. The strings on one section of stairs were almost completely cut away when all that was needed was a 2.5" x 3.5 notch to notch around a top plate of a wall below the stair case. We had to hire Total Construction Company to remove the stairs and shore up the strings so the stairs would not collapse. American stairs sent the guy that measured the job to look at the strings and he told us to just close up the walls and the next owners of our house will never know. After the one year warranty the stairs now squeak when you use the. I intend to call the Better Business Bureau and take American Stairs to court for the mon I had to pay Total Construction Company. I would not recommend using American Stairs but would recommend Total Construction Company I'm Brick NJ.

It will be very difficult to convince me to allow any other contractor to make improvements on my home. The quality of this work is, without question, worth more than I was charged. That being said, good work isn't cheap, and cheap work isn't good. I have never before had the pleasure of a home improvement project going so smoothly while producing such a high quality result.
