I'd previously dealt with Hanger quite a few years ago when I wanted to walk for my college graduation and was able to get a prosthetic to make that happen. It was a wonderful experience that I remember to this day. However, I've always had issues with pressure sores and because of other health issues walking simply wasn't meant to be for me on a full-time basis. I'm much happier as a wheelchair user. I've been getting wound care lately and as my care is winding down, my physical therapist recommended we try stump shrinkers to help with support compression with my limb. My doctor made a referral to Hanger and they were in my insurance network. They are close to Methodist Hospital and I didn't even have to go into their clinic. They were able to come over to my wound care appointment. Based upon measurements my therapist had taken, they recommended sizing and brand and delivered the product. They made sure that it fit well and also explained my option for moving to a smaller size at some point. We had a brief discussion about limbs, though there was no pressure to go that direction. They were quick, responsive, and knowledgeable. I do wish they offered a female prosthetist for those of us with trauma backgrounds, however, the person who showed up was respectful and had good boundaries. This type of equipment is inherently expensive (though stump shrinkers are on the very low-end of this) and the odds are I'll have to get more at some point. This was a good experience and I would easily use again.
