The prices are very high, but they make great orthotics.

SRT National Prosthetic Center is the downtown Indy office of a growing, Indiana-based creator of…read more"Superior Rehab Technologies." Founded in 2002, SRT focuses on prosthetics and orthotics for amputees and has it as a personal mission to focus on the entire individual - not just the amputation. SRT started in Butler, Indiana and currently has ten locations including three in Indy and also two locations in Illinois and one in Wisconsin. I was referred to SRT following a recent injury to my left lower limb that had been amputated nearly 30 years ago. After several weeks of therapy, which involved both wound care and physical therapy, my physical therapy referred me for what is known as a "stump shrinker," which is similar to a compression suck but more individualized to amputated limbs. We'd successfully treated my wounds and significantly reduced swelling, but it was felt something to help further reduce and maintain the reduction would be helpful. SRT is located on North Meridian in near downtown Indy. My therapist made the initial contact, but then I followed up to actually schedule the appointment. The administrative person answering the phone is super friendly and helpful. They actually were able to get me in quite quickly, but my therapist wanted to time it perfectly after one last limb-wrapping before a final appointment. SRT accommodated this special request and got me in as requested. Prior to my appointment, I did take in my prescription, which is required, and also my insurance info. Meridian Street is currently a mess due to some construction, though this is certainly not SRT's fault. You pull into the MIBOR parking lot and the SRT building is on the left. They have two spots, both accessible, directly behind the building and also another parking lot behind that. The parking lot is in some disrepair, but being a company directed at those with disabilities they've got what you'd expect - accessible parking and automatic doors. The decor is warm and inviting - I can't remember what this building was before SRT, but they have one of those waterfall walls - very calming. The reception area is big enough for multiple wheelchairs. I arrived probably about 20 minutes before my scheduled appointment with Emily. I was taken back to a room on time and Emily entered shortly after. Stump Shrinkers are relatively low-cost items and I figured this would be a quick visit. I was impressed with how much time Emily took to make sure everything was right - she'd originally understood we were handling both legs, but adapted quickly after confirming it was only one. The leg was measured, options were discussed, and she was patient as I struggled through several failed attempts to put the shrinkers on myself. She worked with me to figure out the body mechanics, mostly encouraging but also helping as needed. She also helped me deal with the old wrap that my therapist had left on the leg until my appointment. In the end, she provided me with the shrinkers she thought would be appropriate. My case is somewhat unique in that this is really a process I should have gone through directly after the amputations but never did (things have changed a lot since then). Quite honestly, Emily was stellar - she was patient, kind, enthusiastic, explained things well, and went above and beyond. She even talked about showing up to my therapy appointment on Thursday, likely my final one, to make sure everything's okay. She's a definite all-star. The only slight hitch with SRT, and I'm choosing to not dock any stars for it, is that a couple times I left a voice mail - once asking for a call back - and didn't really get follow-up. However, when I called back everything was addressed perfectly. This was a minor issue and didn't remotely impact my overwhelmingly positive impression of SRT. Would I work with SRT again? Absolutely. They were even encouraging with the possibility of trying to walk again, though that's not really a goal of mine and it's been quite a long time since that has happened. I'd definitely recommend SRT for those needing orthotic/prosthetic services.

I've had a very bad experience with SRT from the very start. The communication was very poor. The…read moreproduct (replacement leg) attachment was also extremely poor and inadequate, looking as if a grade school student glued it together in which there was NO WAY I could even wear clothes with it. The leg was just not functional at all. Because of all of this I could not accept the leg and canceled my appointment. I called SRT to tell them that I was going in a different direction and would not accept it. However, even though I did not receive the leg SRT still falsely billed my insurance company as if I did and now I have to get these, what I consider to be fraudulent charges, straightened out. SRT is very unprofessional with second rate service at best. I'm extremely disappointed. I DO NOT recommend them. Do yourself a favor. If you're ever in a similar situation go to a true professional.
