This place is an adventure to places I've never been. It's a cozy shop with an air of mystery. The staff behind the counter are very nice. I wanted to get one of everything I saw but refrained to do it, and just got the mung beans i was looking for plus moong Dahl, delicious spicy mango chutney, and from their healing section, I got a few Ayurvedic oils/ointments, and digestive fruit salts which tasted as expected. read more

This place is wonderful. Not as big as a typical Indian sweets & spices, but it is very clean and organized. There are quite a few British goodies -- I particularly like the candies selections -- as well as Indian and Sri Lankan grocery stuffs. There are refrigerated items along the sides, a limited selection of cosmetics, and mostly packaged foods. There is a parking lot as it is in small mall. I usually am lucky and find a spot though not necessarily in front of the place, so I can feel a bit guilty parking in front of another business. But, I figure so are others. read more

I really loved this store! I was talking to my best friend how I wanted to do a Sri Lankan crawl in the Valley and we came upon this small grocery while out picking up Indian for dinner next door. The store is stacked almost to the ceiling with all sorts of bagged, boxed, jarred, canned and bottled goods. There were spices, chutneys, British goods, frozen meals (including Linda McCartney's vegetarian line), interesting sodas and just a treasure trove of stuff. I bought two different ginger beers (they had four types including an organic one in a glass bottle) and asked the guy running the shop which one was better. He of course went with the Elephant brand, a Sri Lankan company. The other brand was made by Jamaicans (but bottled in the States). I also got a jar of minced ginger. Those three items were under $6. They also carried a few fresh things including what else, ginger, shallots (though those were sprouting), garlic, pearl onions, okra and some extremely small looking bitter melons. It made me very curious and anxious to try some Sri Lankan food soon. It is really tight in there and the racks of goods are very close together. I don't think this is handicap friendly at all. It's located in a strip mall and even though half the businesses were closed at night, almost all the parking spaces were gone attesting to the popularity of the three restaurants next door. With MIA tunes streaming in my head I walk into Sri Lankan Deli excited to explore the goodies that lay behind this unassuming shop located in a nondescript strip mall. Wow! The shop is delightfully charming and beautifully organized. Everything was super neat and clean and the wooden bins welcomed you to explore. 25 years! That's how long they've been in business! It blows my mind that they have been servicing the Sri Lankan community in SoCal for 25years. Lots of interesting ingredients to peruse. I purchased some weird herbs to play with and took a ton of pics to post on yelp so that I can research Sri Lankan food further. Yelp is helping me catalogue the things I might want to buy. What a nice surprise discovering this grocery store this afternoon. I was having lunch nearby and passed by and took a double take on my way back to my car. I first noticed all the British products when I looked into the store. That initially drew me in, but as I walked through the store, there was so much more to explore. It was described to me as 80% Sri Lankan, and the rest products from Britain, Australia, South Africa, Scotland, Ireland, Canada, Thailand, Japan, and more. I bought a bag of groceries here today holding myself back from buying so much more. They have some unique sodas, and some fresh tumeric and ginger in the refrigerated section. There is a freezer section with Sri Lankan microwavable products and some British bangers too. I can't believe that they've been around for 20 years or so and I'm just discovering this grocery store now. Their grocery name is very misleading. It would really help them if they add the word "market" on the outside to draw more people in. Passing by for the past two decades, I never knew that this was a market with a lot interesting products. If you're looking some exotic groceries and spices to add to your kitchen, I recommend you stop by and take a look. If you love imported chocolate from the UK and other Commonwealth countries, a visit to Sri Lankan Delight is a must. read more

Not sure what happened to the friendly men that worked here but the customer service has gone down the drain. I encountered an elderly female cashier today who made no attempt to figure out why the credit card reader was not working and then offered me a discount so I could pay cash with the $5 dollars I had and then she turned around and said she never offered a discount! This is about their delivery service. They take at least 3 days to ship the items. By the time it tech you it almost 5 days since you order the items from their website. And it rarely add new items to the website, but by the looks of their picks they have more new items in the store. read more

After spending 6 months in India, I needed a grocery store that provides the necessary equipment to make legit Indian Food. After Yelping around for local Indian grocery stores, I found Sri Lankan Delight. Although this place is strictly Sri Lanka it does provide an adequate glimpse into the wonderful world of South Asian Food. My goal: Make Chana Masala. Other than vegetables this place has your standard herbs and spices that adhere to Sri Lanka and India food. They didn't have any raw uncooked chickpeas so I settled with the can version. After snatching some tumeric, cumin, coriender, chilli, ginger-garlic paste, and garam masala I was on my way to pay. This place is very clean, and has a motley selection of various intriguing and awesome foods and spices. After roaming around the small store for other stuff, I noticed their great selection of Sri Lankan movies. After which I asked the cashier "Do you have any Bollywood movies" Reply:" No, we have ONLY Sri Lankan." I should of read the sign out front which said "Sri Lankan Delight." However, after delving deeper into their collection of songs and movies I did find some Bollywood Movies. BOOM. Take That! This store is great, with excellent hospitality. I can't believe I missed this hidden gem for so long!! I always thought it was a restaurant, but it is actually a little market with Indian/Sri Lankan/Asian foods. Like most Indian/Asian markets, they have a very good selection of British goods as well, which was how I found out about it in the first place, when I did a search for "British Stores" on Yelp, so that I could buy some British tea. Best place to get Sri Lankan products in the Valley. They carry a wide range of products from jujups to kingfish and treacle. Staff is really helpful and knowledgable too. I wanted to try making watalappan and not only did they find me all the ingredients they even recommended some products that would be better. This is a wonderful Sri Lankan grocery store that's being serving the west coast for a long time. They carry Sri Lankan groceries as well as a decent amount of other imported items including a variety of tea products. My wife and I often visit this store to buy groceries and produce unique to Sri Lankan cuisine. We have always felt very welcome here, where all staff including Nihal have always been friendly, respectful, and helpful; reminiscent of the famous Sri Lankan hospitality. I am sure that positive atmosphere is the reason we see many US and British people frequent this store as well. As someone who has been to many Indian/Asian stores in the USA, this store is the cleanest and most well kept Asian grocery store we have been to in the USA by far. Unlike other similar stores, you will not find any expired or dusty products on shelves. Everything is priced very reasonably and they have a very good selection of quality products. I hope they continue to grow their business and be able to serve the Sri Lankan community in LA (and the west coast) for many years to come. Today i went to sri lankan delight to use their ria facility, and the employee, nihal kekulandara suddenly started yelling at me inappropriately for telling a customer , the otherday , that a green tea product they sell for almost 4 dollars can be found in 99 cents store. I was harassed in filthy words and threatened infront of another two customers. Ive never seen such a customer service anywhere.. He was violating consumer rights and basic human rights. on top of everything, he failed to respect women. I have never seen such a low sri lankan person ever in my time period in united states.. Such a shame. Im definitely reporting this to authorities for necessary actions. And make sure people who i know and speaks with, would never ever face such kinds of situations. read more

When the package arrived, some items that I ordered were missing and some were damaged. I happened upon this little store while out for dinner at the Vegan Factory (which was AWESOME by the way..) and my eye caught a box of breakfast Cereal, Pronutro! I am South African and obviously LOVE the stuff from there! I decided to go back there the next day to check it out and to my surprise, they had a good variety of South African goodies. We went there to get Amberella Chutney and ended up with some great organic and regular Dilmah Tea, quality jaggery, sprats and a bunch of other stuff. They have a wide variety of Sri Lankan and British products, including British tea. They even have Australian Vegemite. It is a nice, clean, well stocked store and the owners are friendly. We have been there four times so far and each visit has been pleasant. The owners are very nice and keep the store well stocked with a wide variety of Sri Lankan products.
