Hot toddy season! Guess what I ordered...you guessed it...hot toddy with Buffalo Trace. Ian, the bartender, is a cool guy. I decided to come out of hibernation and show my face to the world after a long day of cleaning and organizing my garage. Although looking to socialize I was perfectly fine with just chilling at the bar enjoying the bar playlist. Got to admit, it was a little slow, 10 people total, including the bartender and I. Again, I didn't mind it at all...it's a small spot. I like it. Two pool tables, dart boards, stained glass hanging lamps in the corner, and a clean bar arm rest. Oh and they have a foot rest at the bar, delicious! By the way, I threw on some Rory Gallagher and Iggy Pop to make myself feel at home. Come through it's a chill spot. read more

If there was an option for no stars I'd select that one. This is the last time I'm coming to this RACIST bar. My friend and I put money in the jukebox and the moment we play a non white song they skipped all the songs we paid for and only played their country music. Don't get me wrong I like country but if I put money to play a song I'd appreciate if my song was played. Then the bartender and all the white regulars are staring at my group and me whispering to themselves while staring at us. This isn't the first time I've dealt with this issue. When I ever I bring my friend of color I feel the pregnant bartender always has a disgusted face on. If they aren't skipping my songs they are turning the volume down. Considering when I come here I always spend a good amount of money they no longer will get my service and they need to change how they treat their non white customers. read more

Ambience: The atmosphere isn't that great. Squires is a small, slightly run-down bar catering to locals of La Habra, my sleepy little town. People smoke here, but I don't mind. Scotch: I got a decent glass of Glen Livet scotch, nearly filled to the brim, for around $4. That's ridiculous. It's the kind of bar a pirate or a dock worker might hang out at. The crowd is ubber friendly (when there is one). PART OF THE DIRTBAG RUN REVIEW SERIES: Cruising along Whittier Blvd (on the East-East side) into La Habra, it can be very easy to miss this little diamond in the rough of a dive. Squires is an excellent dive in that it has all a dive needs, REALLY cheap drinks (booze and mixed), darts/billiards, a classic rock immersed jukebox, AND they let you smoke inside. Oh did I mention the drinks ARE CHEAP? The bartender takes care of business and is no nonsense. No credit cards, no tab, JUST CASH. This is a great place for stopping with a small group, and if you go stag, put a few bucks into the box and sit back and drink your grog. Love the medieval accents littered about the place. If you want to avoid the family and friend crowds at nearby DP's Pizza Pub, and can live without some pizza for the night, go here, it won't disappoint, and the slot billiards are a good time. The locals and regulars look like a mix of older folks, nascar fans, youngins', a truly motley crew if ever there was. I've never been here outside of Saturday or Friday, but I suspect the vibe is the same no matter what night it is. read more

Dive bars are usually a hit.. or a hit. How can you go wrong with cheap drinks, calloused bartenders and classic rock? I've been here two or three times and know I'll be going back again in the very near future. The bathrooms are clean and everyone is always friendly.
