Was vacationing in Hermosa for the week, and stopped into Spyder to check out the clothing. I did really well; purchased several pieces and was helped by Malia. She is very social and welcomed me to the store upon entering. Being from NJ, I wasn't sure what to expect with service. I am a stickler for great service and Malia was great. Serving up surf style, shorts, shirts, bikinis, boards, sunglasses, and beach schwag since a long time ago, Spyder is the spot to shop in Hermosa Beach. Located right in the HB Pier Pavilion...parking is street, meter, structure, or lot parking (god luck with that bro). Selection is huge from Hurley, Billabong, O'Neill, Rip Curl, Oakley, Electric Visual, and a gazillion other beach brands. Plenty of super-friendly employees. To top it all off...really good prices...plenty of sales...and always a pleasant experience. I think the selection is better up the hill at the Spyder Boards location on PCH, but for the location, you cannot go wrong at the HB Pier shop...there's plenty of everything. I really like shopping at Spyder, I have spent a good amount of money on surf boards, wetsuits, bathing suits and clothes. Half the staff is really nice friendly and very helpful, especially the older staff. Half the staff needs to work on hospitality and customer service(specifically the younger girls that work there). Spyder is not a cheap store so getting good customer service and feeling welcome is always important to me. I'd like to warn anyone shopping for clothes about the store. I just recently bought a skirt on the sale rack that I noticed was damaged, ripped, missing a button when I got home. I called immediately when I noticed the damaged skirt. The sales associate remembered me and told me that was the reason it was on the sales rack, because it was damaged. And she said told me it was final sale. I worked in retail for 3 years and I think that's a horrible. Purposely selling damaged clothes for a small percentage off. Not cool. She should have offered me my money back. I spend a couple hundred dollars today on clothes that's the least she could do. Very disappointed today with the service unfortunately. So to anyone shopping be careful with sale items. The associate told me they put damaged items on the sale rack and they do not warn the guests that they are damaged when purchasing.... not good... Richard and Tamara totally resolved my issue. They apologized and gave me a full refund for my damaged skirt. I really do enjoy Spyder surf shop. And I always recommend my friends go check it out for surf equipment. I got some really dope candles here because I didn't want to buy it in Little Tokyo where the service was sketch and not in Manhattan or Redondo Beach where the service was snooty. This store is very laid back and the sales people left me alone, which I find AWESOME unless I had questions to which they were extremely helpful. So, I ended up buying all 3 of the candles that I love in the event it gets discontinued. I later saw it in Nordstrom for the same price, but I do love my hole in the wall boutiques and LOVE shopping here!!! I used to shop a lot here, but just haven't had the time. read more

Do not shop here! There's a store a few blocks away with similar style beach clothing and it costs a lot less. I've lived right here across the street from this place for ten years now and I realize why I don't shop here more frequently every single time I'm here. The prices are insane! $40-$80 for simple hoodies, etc. This is the store rap songs make fun of; "$60 for a t-shirt". I tried to return something I bought one because after washing it once, it shrunk. Priscilla was the person helping me with the return and she gave me such incredulous look that she made me feel like I was lying. In the years that I've been forced to stop in here quickly for something, I can't remember ever being this in barest trying to make a return or exchange. She was rude, and even took another jacket off the wall and compared it to see if I was lying to her. She told me they matched closely enough where she couldn't believe that it actually had shrunk. Really? I brought in the tags, receipt, everything. Then she made me stand at the counter while she went somewhere to talk to someone she referred to as the buyer, and came back and told me that they wouldn't except it as a return, despite the fact that I followed the washing instructions, because she couldn't send the product back. I don't understand how that was my fault or problem, but it's extremely poor customer service and at this point, i'd much rather recommend a store a few blocks south that is much more reasonable when it comes to customer service, general attitude, and prices. Expensive prices, check. Arrogant and rude staff, check. This spot seems more meant for tourists given the prices and location that it is for actual beach locals. I won't ever be back here again. And specific, all other things aside, because of Priscilla's poor attitude and her embarrassing way of handling what seems like any situation. I could've handled someone telling me that they couldn't take the product back, it was the manner in which she did it. read more

We were in this store a few hours earlier; I'll just cut straight to the punch. Hell hath no fury like a customer scorned! I don't know if someone had a bad day, and it spread around and everyone caught an attitude. #atmosphere But imagine feeling under the radar when you're asking for assistance; BUT THEN UNDER A MICROSCOPE when you go to help yourself. There's no happy medium, in fact, there seems to be no happy-anything here. Retail is retail. A job is a job. A job is not a right, it is a privilege. So before you go acting like you're entitled to be somewhere, understand that garbage attitude is easily disposable. You are replaceable. It's Wednesday, and no one was in the store. Get it together, people. Managers, instill a sense of pride and urgency in what you do to help the customer; your team is a reflection of the way you express your values. read more

Rather large surf shop right off the beach. The hubs was on the hunt for Sanuks so we were walking along the beach and popped in here. Great selection, it's actually two stores, one side is guys and one side is girls. I was already done my shopping for the trip so just took a gander and helped out the hubs. All the staff are super friendly, and chatty. Prices seem reasonable for what surf brands cost. There is lots there, which I found a little overwhelming, and I don't like to rack shop, it's such a pain to have to pilfer through racks and racks and racks of stuff. One of those, if you're in the area def check it out, but I doubt I would drive out of my way to go there again. read more

This store has got a large selection of the latest styles of beach wear and paraphernalia from all the latest designers. Prices are moderate to high, but a cool place to pick up those necessary items for the summer to prevent from looking "so last year"! A stop to purchase a few items is a must especially if you live in the beach cities as you can't very well meander about town looking like an "inlander" slob. Hehe! The help staff is very laid back, friendly and accomodating. If you don't know what the latest is in cool surf wear, they could instruct you on how to dress so you look like a local. If you're too embarassed to admit that you are beach fashion illiterate, just casually observe what they are sporting and try to find that in the store! Definitely the place to go to if you are looking for trendy beach fashions but can get a bit touristy during the summer months! read more

Overall, I would like to go "Becker" next time because the associates are more knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Sometimes shopping is a joyful experience. But I did NOT experience the above nice scenario at Spyder II. I went Spyder II for summer sale on 8/16/2014 6:20pm. Was waiting in line at the cashier of Men's dept. Inside the counter, one associate was helping a customer, and another associate ignored me twice to go folding clothes and chatting with other staff. I didn't wanna waste my time, so lastly I went to the cashier of Women's Dept to request paying the stuff I wanna purchase. Some of the associates at Spyder II are NOT helpful. Spyder is a great surfer shop right off of Hermosa beach. I love the whole area where Spyder is located. It's a chill little spot--the restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and shops in this little area all have a very cool summer vibe. Spyder carries all the stuff you'd expect from a surf shop--everything from actual surf boards and wet suits to flip-flops and tee-shirts. I'll definitely come back. read more

I'm not a big fan of the mall and much prefer local shops near my home to find cute things to wear. I usually find myself at Spyder II on a Friday night looking for a last minute frock or a lazy Saturday afternoon while out on a walk with my dog and my coffee. Every single time I enter the door, the girls welcome me and remind me that I can bring my dog inside. They are very helpful both in and out of the dressing room. The great thing about Spyder II is the great selection of clothing and shoes. I can always find something great to wear for casual or dressing up. I would say 95% of my clothing comes from Spyder II. Born in the South Bay but now I live in Nevada, everytime we go home this is one of my must stops for a tee shirt or 3. I've never had any issues with any employees like some on here claim, they have always been laid back and friendly. I carry a gun when in NV so XL or XXL shirts are a must and they always have larger sizes. Check this place out if you haven't. read more

The store is always very clean and well organized. With them having 2 different sides, 1 for mens and 1 for womens it really makes it easy for my shopping. I came in a few weeks ago looking for some new flops, because I blew my old ones out the weekend before. And being that it's not the season for sandals, they still had a huge section. It didn't take me long to find something because of the selection and that as soon as I walked upstairs to try a few on, one of their sales associates came to help me right away. Last weekend my girlfriend and I came in to get some new bikinis and a birthday gift for her brother. We had just gone to the manhattan location where the gentleman was kind and helpful but didn't have a variety of options. When we got to the Hermosa location we were greeted by just 1 girl after about 10 minutes of being in the store. There were a total of 4 employees on the floor. My girlfriend and I had noticed not just once but the entire time we were there the other 3 employees staring at us, every time I turned around their eyes were fixated on us. We moved around the store looking at clothes and other items and noticed specifically 2 employees would come peak around the corner at us. It felt degrading. Another employee, a girl, stared at me as I walked by but didn't say anything until I looked up and said "hello" where she was then caught off guard. We felt like we were being watched as if they thought we were going to steal something. I noticed that all the other customers (Caucasian) was we're being helped but we were not. Maybe this is because we are Hispanic, maybe the staff besides from the 1 employee who greeted us is just trained poorly. Either way, it was an upsetting experience and unfortunately we no longer feel comfortable going back. read more

Went here because I heard that a brand I liked on the internet called CX City. Its a very big store, Im not a surfer or have any knowledge toward the sport, but I would assume that a lot of surf enthusiasts would love this place. The only thing that bothered me about this place was when I walked in asking about CX City, the guy who helped me out ended up being my personal fashion consultant (which I didn't want) Im an independent shopper and all I asked was where the brand was. I think working retail for a couple years lets me understand that customers such as myself have a limit, and my limit was passed as this gentlemen attempted to up sale me by saying "you'd look good in this" haha Nonetheless, its a great store. I love shopping here! They are slightly expensive but it's a surf shop by the beach. What would you expect? They have a great selection of clothes and they are always organized. It always seems like they have a lot of workers working too so that's always nice. They have a HUGE selection of bikinis and flip-flops too. They are by a bunch of great food places, clothing stores, other surf shops, and right by the pier so it's always a nice place to stop by if you're in the area. Support local business and shop here!
