Lol…read more This might not be the biggest cheese shop in Wisconsin, but they have a better variety of cheeses than most: I like softer cheeses like Havarti more than cheddar and they had a few outstanding ones, namely the Havarti with horseradish and the Farmer's cheese. The service was great, too, suggestions and samples were both given freely; I mean they really gave you their time and attention. You know, like it is supposed to be. We didn't make a very big purchase because we were on a road trip, but now that I know how good Kugel's is, I won't hesitate to order and spend the money on shipping.

My husband and I shared: - Loaded Cheese Curds - French Onion Melt - Hot Honey Chicken Mac And Cheese - Strawberry Basil Lemonade Everything was fantastic. The cheese curds were the best we had while in Wisconsin. The flavor of the French Onion melt was so good. I loved the hot honey addition to the mac and cheese. We bought a ton of their cheese too and it was fantastic. They have so many other great goodies too. If I lived nearby, I would be here all the time. This is a must stop in Door County!

Wisconsin has a serious reputation for cheese, so during our visit to Door County we wanted to find…read morea place to sample some. That's how we landed at Renard's. They had a wide range of cheeses and oils out for sampling, and the staff was friendly and walked us through the different varieties. One of them had us try a cheese dip with ghost peppers, which was hands down our favorite, creamy up front with a slow burn that built after. We picked up some cheddar, a tub of that dip, and a few beers for the road. We also grabbed food from the in-store café: a grilled French onion sandwich, tomato basil soup, and cheese curds. The sandwich and soup were the standouts. The curds were fresh and squeaky. We finished with their ice cream, which held up to everything else we'd eaten. The prices were low enough that the whole stop felt like a steal. A must-visit when you're in Sturgeon Bay.

As a lifetime connoisseur of cheese curds, I like to think I know the right factors to look for in…read moreevaluating exceptional curd quality. The Laney curds were as good as they get! The first and obvious sign is the freshness factor. The proper octave of squeak is just not present in most of your basic b curds. Biting into Laney curds sounded like a happy pup gnawing on its favorite squeak toy. The most satisfying squeak of a fresh cheese curd upon gently pressing your fangs into them.. really knows no comparison. Next is proper saltiness. This cheese is too salty for me..said no one..ever. Laney curds had just the right amount of salt to keep you coming back for more but without feeling the need to fill up on worthless water, taking up much needed stomach real estate for precious cheese curds. Lastly, the texture is key. Soft but not rubbery and firm enough to produce the squeak is the sweet spot these curds achieved. Let them warm to room temp, and the softness produces a new and novel texture, making the thought of devouring the entire pound a near maddening obsession. Now that I have properly described the quality of the best cheese known to human kind, I can comment on other aspects of the business. Their small shop surrounded by farmland with homemade products is quite appealing. We were greeted with friendly service and found the price to be very competitive in regards to the cheese curd market value. Highly recommended, would nom their cheese again.

This shop even has a drive thru available in case you need your cheese curds on the go. The fact that you could watch the factory floor from the retail shop was a fun surprise, taking me back to my Mr Rogers show-me-how-the-crayons-are-made days. Service is personable and I could tell that the person working knew most of the regulars. I'm sure all the locals already know about Scray Cheese but if you're from out of town, definitely make a stop. You'll be happy you did.
