As a frequent customer to Springfield butcher, I have had the pleasure of sampling a large variety of their products, as well as had the opportunity to interact with many of their employees. I purchase from Springfield Butcher every other week at least, and I would consider myself a loyal customer as opposed to an infrequent customer.
I highly recommend their fresh shrimp (not deveined, so a little extra work, but so worth it!), porterhouse steaks, whole roasters (with innards, which you don't see that often nowadays), crabcakes, applewood smoked bacon (to this day my friend still raves about a brunch where I served this bacon), and perfectly ground chili meat (excellent in both chili and thicker red sauces). Definitely don't limit yourself to these items -- there are many to choose from! I am also impressed that they delve into such products as beef wellington, venison products,
They are quite willing to work with you to accommodate your needs; once, a gentleman willingly broke down a whole roaster as well as skinned it for me, even though it occupied him for several minutes. Thankfully they weren't too busy, but even so, that shows a willingness to go the extra mile with their customers.
During busy times, especially when they are running a Groupon, one can understand that the high volume of traffic can lead to misunderstandings. However, I urge you to stop by when the pressure is not on, when the deadline for a Groupon is not imminent. There is nothing pleasant about having 70 people waiting in line to be served, and there's a limited number of people behind the counter to help them. There's also nothing pleasant about waiting in line for an hour to be served. It's completely understandable.
If I may offer a suggestion: you are truly concerned with their current practices (cleanliness, customer service, source of products), contact the management directly rather than posting negative comments about the business on a public website. Whenever I had a question about their products or practices, an employee has taken the time to answer it or find out the answer from a more knowledgeable employee. (For example...Question: "Why don't you carry ground turkey or ground chicken?" Answer: "We do all of our meat grinding in house, and poultry is extremely messy, without much yield from each turkey/chicken. However, if you have a special request, we can work with you on that. Just let us know.") I would have liked to address everyone's concerns on this review board, however that would be better accomplished by approaching the business directly.
I highly recommend the Springfield Butcher, to both new customers as well as previous customers. I think everyone deserves a chance, especially when the good far exceeds any bad. read more
