She is gone now as is the receptionist Ricky. Customer service has tanked. Calls go unanswered most times. When I reached the new receptionist she seemed disoriented and confused. I asked to receive a returned call by the current Audiolgists, Drs. Amalillo and Eisenberg. Neither of them could be bothered. Maybe a different lication is better. I don't know.

In June I visited Potomac Audiology in hopes that hearing aids would correct my problem…read moreunderstanding what people are saying, particularly people with thick accents and when trying to converse in Spanish. Dr. Gail Linn performed a very thorough hearing test and fitted me with Phonak hearing aids. She thoroughly explained the test results and said that my actual hearing loss was fairly minimal. I loved the Phonak technology and found that they were comfortable and discreet to wear. I got some benefit from hearing higher pitched sounds but found they were not much help in understanding what people were saying. Over the next six weeks I saw Dr. Linn several times and she made adjustments to try to improve their usefulness. My insurance company covers the full cost of the hearing aids but I was concerned that I might purchase them and then not use them very much. Dr. Linn agreed and advised me to wait. She felt I was getting insufficient benefit to waste my health care dollars on them at this time. Given my age (71) she felt I might get more benefit from them in a few years if my hearing deficit continues to worsen. I felt she gave me excellent advice and was very comfortable with this decision. Dr. Linn was not only very competent and experienced but also very honest and ethical. She could have gone ahead and sold me the hearing aids but instead had my best interests at heart. She is, without a doubt, one of the best medical advisors I have seen. She always communicated very clearly with me and I felt that she gave me the best possible assessment and advice. I recommend her very highly and should I have continued hearing loss in the future, will definitely return to Potomac Audiology to see her.

He prescribed Flonase for my problem…read more After receiving Flonase I read the insert and saw that it was contraindicated for my eye problem-glaucoma- and should not be used. Called the office and was told to call my ophthalmologist to deal with the issue. If I hadn't read the info I might have done harm to my eyes. First and last appointment with this doctor. Read your patient's intake form where I stated I had glaucoma!

I wanted to see a doctor right away, and could not get in to see Dr. Winkler for about a month, so I saw Dr. Brenner instead. Dr. Brenner was fabulous -- direct, clear, caring. He examined me, and then took some biopsies, and soon after diagnosed me with a type of head and neck cancer. He gave me his cell phone number and, before and during my treatment, he kept tabs on me to make sure I was receiving excellent care. I still have follow up appointments with him a few times a year. I highly recommend him. My elderly mom also saw him and the audiologist, Rachel, who also was fantastic. The office staff is exceptional - Wanda at the front desk is especially helpful. The only downside is that they are out of network with my insurance company. Thanks to the Chevy Chase ENT team for the wonderful care!

Our toddler at the time was very shy, so her approach of play-based speech therapy was the ideal fit for a shy kiddo. He looked forward to sessions and didn't realize it was "work", but instead saw it as a fun activity where he was able to play with a variety of toys with an energetic playmate. I don't see how Mandy has the energy to play with the little ones all day, but she does--and really seems to enjoy it. The play/session environment is comfortable, welcoming, clean, and has a toy store's worth of different toys (and Mandy is always trying out new ones for the repertoire). Mandy immediately identified a structural issue that a previous formal evaluation from another speech therapist missed. Our child progressed wonderfully and is now outgoing, able to express himself clearly and with a range of vocabulary and sentence structures, and is doing advanced language and verbal work at school. My son has been in and out of various…read morespeech pathologist's offices since he was 4, and I could never hear or see a measurable difference in his speech until we found Mandy. The difference in a year with her is greater by far than the difference in 5 years with everyone else combined. I cannot say enough good things about our experience with her. She is incredibly effective as a speech pathologist, and the results are really clear. Even more than that, she is flexible, patient, adaptive and works with my son rather than at him. Her humor shines through steadily, and she is very kind, and my son can sense that and relaxes with her. She has specific, targeted exercises and games she goes through with him - he has only begun to figure out that the games are work - and gives us home practice in such a way that he knows what he needs to be doing and how to do it. My son can be a handful - so she works in movement breaks and tunes the games to his interests and approaches it with humor that makes him feel welcome. She gives prizes after so many stickers earned - set at a reasonable, attainable pace - and I noticed that, having figured out my son liked puzzles and stuffed animals, that the prizes being offered have quietly become things he enjoys. He vibrates for the opportunity to win them. Even the games have become quietly tuned to his needs and preferences; I've never seen so many games of Memory played. My son invented his own version of Go Fish with the articulation cards, and she went so far as to write down the rules so they could play it again. Seriously, she is *amazing*. As a note: my son went from throwing tantrums at the very idea of speech to cheerfully practicing at home and happily showing up to his speech therapy. Because she praises him for his effort and his progress and specifically what he is doing right, he can aim for that specific thing again and *believes her* when she tells him he's working and she can tell. I cannot tell you what a difference that has made. Most importantly, my son went, in less than a year, from being unintelligible unless someone had known him for years, to being a confident, talkative, outgoing kid with a lot to say. A few months in with Mandy, I stopped having to 'translate' for him. Months ago, he suddenly started talking non stop, because he could be understood and heard and participate. Before that, he only spoke that much with me, and he chose the most efficient script to short hand what he wanted to communicate, as speaking was tedious and hard work and he might have to repeat himself five times. Now, he is speaking happily and with assurance with his friends and with his teachers, and does not hesitate to step up and speak when called upon to do so. Mandy has made SUCH a difference in his life, and I am forever grateful. She is worth every penny and moment of time. I highly recommend her; you won't find a better speech pathologist.

I tried to make it work with the new audiologist that took over the practice, but it just wasn't a good fit. I started looking for a new audiologist and took a different approach in my search and started searching on LinkedIn because not only was I looking for an audiologist that was experienced, knowledgeable, but more importantly, one that was black. At this stage in my life, having black doctors that can understand me, my culture and how my race and ethnic background correlates with and pertains to my health is important to me. After reading through a few LinkedIn profiles, I felt that I had found the perfect person, Dr. Leisa Lyles-DeLeon. I called her office immediately and luckily, I able to speak with her that day and from our first conversation, I was impressed. She was extremely knowledgeable, caring and patient in helping me to find the right solution for ME. She attentively listened and heard the concerns of both myself and my husband (who aren't always on the same page about treatment/devices when it comes to my hearing) and considered both traditional and out-of-the box solutions that would address all of our concerns but also work best for me. On a side note, I came in one day and she was helping an elderly patient learn to use his iPad to operate his hearing aid devices and my heart just melted. The level of attentiveness, care and patience she displayed pulled at my heartstrings because my grandparents played a big part in raising me so I have a soft spot for elderly people. Seeing this only further cemented my thoughts that I had found the perfect doctor for me. As far as the office experience overall, I really appreciated the extra precautions they're taking for COVID-19. They take patients' temperatures as they enter the office, they stagger the patients so that there's no overlap of people sitting in the waiting room and masks are required for all. Additionally, her facilities are nice and her staff is friendly. I can't express enough how phenomenal my experience has been with Dr. Leisa Lyles-DeLeon at Ascent Audiology.
