I have only been to the driving range here, but I love coming here!! It is secluded up in the hills and you feel like you have gotten out of the city and traffic. Great place to play some golf as the fairways are usually pretty green, and the roughs aren't all dead grass. I would highly recommend playing here for the late afternoon evening discount as it is only $20 or so. Normally it starts at 6 I think for the summer but you can probably get in 12+ holes, so it definitely isn't a bad deal. Be sure to call ahead but you don't need to call too early as there aren't that many people playing here. read more

I wish I could give the course a higher rating because I live nearby, but there are a few reasons why it's not a great place to golf. First off, they charge higher than what they should based on the course conditions, course layout, and relative price based on other nearby, comparable courses. If they dropped, and kept their prices low (and not constantly changing them), the would get a higher ranking for their level. Played here for the first time and I was pretty impressed by the course itself. Paid $61 for a Saturday morning round (including a pull cart). Sure that's expensive, but you're not going play a round on any par 70+ course in the bay area for under $50 on a weekend morning.... range is OK... pretty standard... I think $4 for a small bucket of 35 balls? again pretty standard... the course is very forgiving and relatively flat... but the greens were in great shape, the tee boxes were in great shape...every tee box had the yardage marker, etc... it's a fun course to build your confidence... much better than a muni..... pace of play was kind of slow... read more

I am a fairly new golfer who is trying to migrate from playing the executive 9-hole golf courses to playing the true golf courses. I played the back-nine holes and it sure was a pleasure. Driving range is decent. $8 for 100 balls with an additional discount using the range card is as good a price as I've been around. The only problem I have with the driving range is there are no yardage markers and the boundary nets are too low, but other than that, it is a solid driving range. Location is in a prime location up in the Calaveras hills not too far from the freeway, and everytime I go, there are plenty of spots open on the range. read more

The course design has serious issues if you play blue tee. There are several ~280 par4s and ~200 par3s, which is ridiculous. The green is very thick and unpredictable. This course is a hidden gem in Milpitas hills! A great balance of beauty and playability. First of all, even though its located in the hills, its walkable with a push-cart or bag on your shoulders. There is no housing development surrounding the course which adds to its beauty. The fairways are well maintained and not over-watered to keep them lush green, which is how it should be. because it conserves water and gives the course a natural look and feel. The greens are similarly well maintained and have a lot of tricky breaks that will deceive the first-timer. I consider this classic golf as this is a course you can walk, rewards good putting skills is located in beautiful surroundings and has a very reasonable twilight rate. I like this golf course. For the $$, the layout, golf experience, and other factors make it a good golf value. I like to walk and it's fairly easy hoofer and carry clubs course, except for some hills. In spring-summer season the course is in great shape and in winter it's reasonable. Play after 3pm and it's like $15 twilight rate often can get in 18 holes under 4 hours. TIp: After hole #2 par 3, if play is backed up, check the #4 green and #5 tee box and see if there is an opening- you might just bypass #3 and #4 and hit #5, as from #2 green you pass right by #5 tee heading toward #3 tee.. .especially if you are pushing daylight and want to get in as many holes as possible. read more

They just recently renovated the golf course so the greens and fairways are in decent condition. But I only give it one stars because it feels like the management intends to gouge the customers. I just signed up my 8 year old son to the Youth On Course program with NCGA. Spring Valley Golf Course is taking part of the program and offer kids on the program to play for $5 after twilight. That sounds all good, except Spring Valley Golf would forced both myself and my son to ride a cart, which is $14 apiece. They would not let me carry his bag and walk. I didn't want to disappoint my son since I told him I would take him to play there. So I ended up paying $33 for my son playing 9 holes. What a rip-off!! Why do they even bother to take part in the Youth On Course program, which is supposed to encourage kids who take a interest in golf to go out to learn and improve their games without breaking their parent's bank? We have been here for lunch a few times. It is a short walk from the parking lot to this restaurant. You don't have to golf here to eat here. The menu is on a couple boards behind the register. This is an order at the register restaurant. They have a lot of seating in this restaurant. I would be happy to eat most everything on their menu, which is unusual for me. Their food is fresh and perfectly prepared. They even take special requests. They do serve alcohol, even for breakfast at least sometimes. read more

Finally had a chance to try out this course. My golf buddy met me here to squeeze in a twilight round, which btw is a pretty sweet deal -- $15 green fee for about 9 holes. The course and facilities are very classic, which is not a big surprise, considering the look of their website is very 'old school'. Difficulty-wise, I would recommend the course to beginners and intermediate level players. Surprisingly, the course was fairly flat except for a few holes -- the par 3, 2nd hole, for example. Long hitters will love this course as the fairways are relatively wide and the layout is fairly straightforward, except for a few doglegs. My only complaint is that despite the secluded location (tucked away in the Milpitas / Calaveras hills), the course seemed very popular. The driving range was packed and my group got backed up a couple of times (looks like the group in front of was were some hackers). Aside from that, I'll definitely be coming back here to finish the entire course. read more

I will never come back.I got a free round coupon from a golf show.I drove two hours to check this course and credit the coupon.I made the tee time on golf now so they said I could not use the coupon.I ended up playing 50 d iveollars for the round.worst 50 I've ever spent.we made it 3. Holes in an hour and a half and got to the fourth with three foursomes waiting.I am not one to wait and would rather play 3soon holes and call it a day than playing an 8 hour round.we then drove off and went back to the pro shop and they couldn't do anything about it.no refund....biggest scam ever plus the course was not what I pictured..NEVER COMING BACK TO THIS COURSE AND YOU SHOULDN'T TRY IT...try summitpoint its a better course and they take care of first time players for this exact reason ... hope I was of help read more

Went there to buy a gift card for a buddy to get him a round of golf for his birthday around 9 one day and it was packed. The phones were ringing off the hook and there was only one girl managing the front desk and all the customers at the same time. It was kind of a long wait for just a gift card but the employee that helped me was very helpful and very professional with her services. Only three stars because she was the only one helping customers and there should be more help to bust out the line quicker. While she was helping me was when everything pretty much calmed down. Then I saw another employee come out of a side door and asked if she needed "help" with anything. In my opinion someone should have came out sooner and helped her. But all in all the customer service from her made it worth the wait. read more

For the first time in my golf life I actually left a course midway through the round. Midway is putting it mildly. My partner and I left on the 5th hole. Our foursome was 3rd in line for the tee with two groups still on the fairway and green. It was going to a long day. Pace of play means something and is a part of the total experience. It was not possible to enjoy the round while waiting with multiple groups. The Marshalls needed to take control of the situation and push the groups harder to play ready golf. This course is in my monthly rotation because I love it so much. It's a short course but can kick your ass if you don't respect it. There are soo many opportunities to bomb your drive and just be a chip shot away from a tap in birdie ie. #3, #5, #12. Greens are true and slightly fast. Range isnt pretty but the mats are new and your hitting up a hill. Behind you is a large putting area, and small chip/bunker area. Hotdogs here are ok, but great like SJ Muni hotdogs. It's a tad bit more expensive than SJ Muni but you don't get so many hackers and pace of play flows here. read more

I really like the layout of this golf course, it's not the most challenging golf course, but there are those certain holes where you are required avoid hazards (ex:holes 9,11,18). The greens on this golf course have really improved over the years, it is quite pricey during the weekends, but during the week they have some good deals, like ride for a buck, or 28 to walk after 12:30pm I believe. A great way to spend a fine saturday or sunday nonetheless. read more

For a Super Bowl Sunday it was c-r-o-w-d-ed! I think this was the longest time I've ever had to wait to play on each hole. It was to the point thatt I was just mentally out of the game. There were some fairways where it was down to playing on hard dirt. And the wind - was terrible today. It didn't stop until we hit the 18th hole and it was already 4:30 p.m. I like the layout of the course and it was very pretty. I'm looking forward to playing this course again with more favorable conditions and at a more leisurely pace minuse the rude foursesome behind us. read more

While the course is fine and interesting, the pace of play is horrible. The Marshall simply holds up their hands and says its just crowded, get over it. A five and one-half hour round is just not pleasurable. The staff is pleasant, but I would not return. read more

Have been here twice and enjoyed both outings... The course is well maintained and the greens are excellent. I am a beginner (with around 15 outings on 9 hole courses) and this was my first 18 hole course... The fairways are wide and forgiving, even if you hit a bad shot, you could recover. Haven't lost a ball yet :). Lots of Par 4s. The Greens are tricky. With a gradient in few fairways, it's hard to establish the slopes in the green. Haven't been to the driving range yet. This is a nice golf course. We have a large group of friends who play an annual tournament every year, and after trying different courses around the area we've settled on Spring Valley as our favorite course. We've played here many times since and always have a great time here. The course is well maintained with a variety of fun and interesting holes, and also very scenic. You'll see occasional turkeys and other wildlife walking around periodically too. We've always found the staff and field marshals to be courteous and helpful, and the tournament director and manager Jeff Rockwood very easy to work with. The course is well maintained. Definitely better than municipal courses in the area. The wind, the pond, and the hills make the course interesting. It feels more challenging than rated. Pace of play is very slow,i play there about twice a month but not anymore.The reason for the slow pace of play is that they allow five groups play,i got stuck behind one last week and it was pathetic,and this was at 8am on a sunday.I booked anther tee time for the following week and asked if there was any five groups booked in before me and there was.He changed my tee time so we could play before them but the course was littered with five groups.WTF,i thought five groups were a myth,no golf etiquette here on the clubs behalf and plus they wont tell you if the course has been aerated .I"ve played there for years but now no more after these five group been allowed. read more

We have been playing at Spring Valley for the last 7 yrs, usually 3 times a month. We have stopped playing there due to the extremely slow play. Three groups are backed up by the 4th hole. This has happened for the last 6 times that we have played there. So my group do not play there anymore. I love the course, but taking over 5 hrs to play is absurd on a weekday. I hope they can resolve this problem. Charge a little more, and book further apart btw tee times. read more

You have to know where you're going, but once you get there, the course is very nice. I am just starting out as a golfer, but I know enough to appreciate or discount certain aspects. The driving range is great, what with the hills, and the putting green is not nearly as level as it appears - challenging, but not ridiculous. I took lessons from Matt Garrison and would recommend him to anyone wanting to learn or improve their game. He's very nice, but definitely lets you know if something is off. He doesn't make you feel like a bad golfer and tells you what is wrong and how to do it right. I made par the first time out, so I think I learned something! So, yesterday, my fiancee and I go out to play there. We teed off at around a quarter to three. Half way through hole 1, a groundskeeping staff on a motorized tiller (the one they use to mow the greens and fairway with) starts following us hole by hole! I mean, he is really on our heels. He even got on some of the greens while we were putting and we had to tell him to back off and wait farther away while we were finished with the hole! It ruined our whole experience, those things are noisy and it's annoying as fuck to have someone just waiting right there for you to finish with your shot. Even after we told him to back off, we would barely pick up the flag to put it back in when he was already ripping and roaring through the green. That being said, I love Spring Valley. It's a nice course, not too easy but not too difficult. Perfect for 90+ stroke players. I agree with previous reviews about the staff though, they can be unfriendly at times. Overall, a very good course and the green fees are extremely reasonable. read more

Spring Valley has been trying to improve their conditions and for the most part, they've been successful. Of course, one has to take into account the fact that their conditions in the past were below average. They have also been trying to make the course play easier because it is true that golf can be more fun if it is made easier. The rough has been cut down and the waste areas made easier to find and hit balls out of. Oddly, you hear about extremely difficult courses made to play easier, but Spring Valley was never a difficult course to begin with. It is a short course with three par 3s and one par 5 in the front. The last par 5 on the back can make an average hitter feel like a long one by reaching in 2. I think only 2 holes have greenside bunkers so your sand wedge will undoubtedly feel lonely. Some of the greens feel like optical illusions and do not follow old golfer's adage about breaking away from the mountain. There is a nice sensation of seclusion to this place as it is nestled in the foothills of the Diablo range. 5 hour weekend rounds is a common possibility here as with all bay area golf courses. read more
