I would not recommend playing here unless you enjoy 7 hour rounds. Our tee time was 12:20 and we didn't TEE OFF on 9 until 3:35. The Marshalls do not enforce pace of play here at all. When the Marshall finally came around, we made a comment about the slow pace of play he said, "it's a good thing it means people are out here playing." Clearly, this course is all about making money instead of getting people to enjoy the game of golf. I booked this for my brothers birthday and he questioned whether it was worth going out and playing by the end of the round. I have now played here twice and both times I have not been able to finish due to the slow pace of play because they spread out tee times by 7 minutes when the average should be about 10 minutes. They should do a better job at promoting paying full price for only 13 holes. read more

My favorite course to play when I need some confidence. The practice area is great, just redone. Plenty of putting and chipping area, just need ball trackers. The pro shop is ok but needs more items. The course itself is fun and open. There are only a few areas that are super challenging. The prices are always reasonable for what you're getting. read more

I've played this course many times and will continue to do so, but today most of the greens were freshly aerated. It wasn't anything to be mad about. Maybe my favorite course in the Bay Area. Always really well maintained and the upgrades to the driving range make it a place you can go to and work on every aspect of your game. Pace of play can be a little slow but it such a scenic track up in the Milpitas Hills so I dont mind moving a little slower. Overall a great place to play Golf. read more

I played this course once and will not be playing it again. They send group out every 7 minutes, which is way too close. While the course itself isn't in terrible condition, you'll never get to properly enjoy all 18 holes because the pace of play is unacceptably slow. My most recent round took six hours, which is completely absurd. I understand this is a public course, but six hours for a round of golf is beyond ridiculous. After two hours on the course, we had only managed to play six holes. At that point, I called the pro shop to report the extreme slow play. They said they would send a marshal out to "check it out." At some holes there would be three groups waiting to tee off. The marshal did show up and proceeded to simply drive past the groups without saying a word or doing anything to help the situation. Later, we encountered another marshal and mentioned the pace of play, and he actually seemed amused by it rather than concerned. Long story short, I will not play this course again. read more

I think I've only had a couple of positive interactions here. Most of the time, the staff at the pro shop come across like they have an attitude--almost as if they're annoyed that I showed up for my tee time. At the very least, since this is customer service, I think it's important to at least try to seem pleased to see a customer. The person working the snack counter doesn't seem rude, but also doesn't really seem happy to be asked for items, which gives off a negative vibe. I've worked at a golf course myself (SJ Muni for about a year), so I know the job can be tough at times. But even then, I always made it a point to remember I was in customer service and tried to be as pleasant as possible. I know you guys are capable of better, and I hope the overall experience can improve. read more

Scenic course up in the Milpitas hills. Not too difficult to get to despite it being tucked away in the hillside. The course itself is well enough maintained and the views are gorgeous. Had my first experience playing here one weekend in winter and morning tee times were delayed due to frost. The staff were very good about keeping track of and rearranging groups based on who was still there by the time they could start sending groups out. There are a few holes where you can't see the fairway when you're teeing off (due to the hilly terrain) so just be careful that you're not hitting into the group ahead of you. The course is walkable, but seemed to be uphill both ways! The par 5s are long so you're for a trek (or at least a good workout!) if you decide to walk instead of ride. read more

We've been playing golf around the Bay Area and we just came across this golf course in Milpitas. While driving to this place, we noticed the hills and mountains in front of us. We thought that we will encounter a lot of hillsides and slopes and will make this a challenging course for us We didn't have any problem checking in and we started our tee time on time at 11:37 am. While playing, we found out that this is a flat course. Its fairways are wide open and the greens are well maintained. For par 4 holes, the yardage is not that far and can be reached in 2 even though you're not a long hitter. There are only a couple of par 4 that are more than 400 yards. For par 5, it's also reachable in 3 or 2 and has a better chance for a birdie or par I liked the layout of this course and for a weekend golfer, you'll enjoy every hole. The pace of the game is not bad. Since we played on a weekday, you'll see several players on the course but except for a few delays on Par 3 holes, our group was moving at a regular pace. We finished the 18 holes in 4 hours and we thought that it was an average time to play 18 holes Compared to the other courses we played, we rate this place as an 8 out of 10. The rate is reasonable and the golf shop was professional. Our group enjoyed our play in this course and we decided to include this as one of our regular courses. read more

Formerly my favorite golf course in the bay area, but sometime recently they reduced the tee times to just SEVEN minute increments!! All rounds here now take close to 6 hours. RIP Spring Valley, corporate greed kills another golf course. I really enjoy playing this course, but was taken aback during our round there on Saturday. To be greeted by the started by the line..." what do you want" was not a good start !!! Both him and the guy in the shop both gave the impression they had better things to do. Anyway it was a gorgeous sunny day so wasnt going to let that bother me...we were behind a foursome that you could tell were going to be slow from their performance off of the first tee...they got slower and slower and the groups behind started piling up. After about 6 holes a marshal did appear and obviously asked them speed up their pace of play, which they did for about one hole !! no sign of the marshal after that until about the 12th hole which by then it was a parking lot behind them but instead of sorting them out he just pushed everyone behind them to keep up.... didnt resolve anything as nobody behind could go any quicker with this blockage in front !!! All in all not a professional way to run a course which is a joy to play but badly run....... read more

Heads up, there is 0 phone service in most parts of this golf course, they do have free WiFi at the clubhouse. Nice golf course, for the price it's how a golf course should be maintained. The reason why I took one star off is golf courses need to stop charging per golfer when it comes to using a golf cart. I don't understand the purpose, how can you explain charging for two people when they're using the same golf cart? This is a norm for some of the courses in the bay area and it needs to stop. My favorite golf course in the area. I love playing right at sunrise when the sun is slowly rising. You can hear peaceful nature sounds like birds chirping and cows mooing. The Back 9 is very scenic and is surrounded by lakes, trees, and hills. It's very beautiful out there! The course is in excellent condition and maintained very well. The restaurant is also a great place to hang out to eat and drink after a round of golf too. Lots of delicious food items on the menu and multiple beers on tap. Phone reception is not very good out here so if you rely on apps to track ball distance, yardage to the pin, etc, please make sure you download the course information onto your phone before you play. read more

Solid 3.8 My first time there was early January or a February 2022 during winter rain season. Drainage systems were great. Wasn't muddy at all. Spring and summer golf is excellent here. Can't complain too much. I usually come very early like 530am to get a head start on the crowds. The staff is really cool and down to earth. Price is good and also a great walk if you decide not to use the cart. Just don't walk when it's too hot. I would recommend this for all levels of players and skill. If you're a person who tends to lose your balls, then this is the course for you! read more

When I went to check in, I was told that I didn't have a tee time reserved even though I received a confirmation. Later, I found a cancellation email in my mailbox which I did not initiate. They confirmed my reservation was canceled without a refund. On my way, my friend called and mentioned that there were only three people in their group for our original tee time, but I was told that the time was fully booked. I was disappointed by the lack of customer service when I initially asked about the cancellation. There was no effort made to investigate possible reasons or escalate the issue. This is a really cool course. I have yet to do well on it because it is very tight and has some long holes. The staff is freaking so awesome and friendly. Easy to get a tee time during the week. I come here every Thanksgiving holiday week and live it. Will be coming here forever. read more

I do like this golf course and play when they have the specials or coupons. The average price is about $41 a round. One thing about this golf course is my T-Mobile cellular signal is none, can't use SwingU to map or show distance of the holes. Hole #9, #11 and #18 over the ponds, make sure to carry them. We've been coming here for years as we had a membership for a really great price. Now they no longer have this. After recently getting back into golf and practicing our swing we came here to practice. Well i have to say negative stars here for lack of bathroom safety. They changed their bathroom policy and it is now unisex!! Ive seen no such thing. In both what was the women's side and men's side, they have 2 "open" stalls one labeled woman's stall and the other men's stall. Whole the other two are supposed to be "closed" Their bathroom sign upon entering in small letters states 1 at a time. Yet the doors are locked open and you can't close. So while in the restroom a man walked in and was confused. I felt so unsafe and uncomfortable I had to use the another bathroom. This is absolutely ridiculous. Having a unisex bathroom and NOT being able to lock the door in usage is gross. As a female, I shouldn't have to worry about a man or men walking into the restroom. We all know you can see between the cracks of the stalls!! ABSOLUTELY ABSURD!! read more

I love this course, it's up in the hills and there are some nice views at some of the holes. The crowd that comes here are usually very friendly and so far I haven't been grouped with anyone weird haha. I would say that it's a good course for beginners to try out. I love the challenge some of the holes offer. Just be careful of the animals eating your food, a crow has swept in and took my protein bar lol but also what golf course doesn't have crazy animals trying to steal your food? the only thing I don't like are the carts, the brakes are not great. You have to step on it SUPER hard. One time I was playing I had a cart where the brake lagged so much it was so scary to drive downhill. The cart would not stop so we would have to turn the wheels or try to avoid the other carts in front of us when parking for the next tee. The reception there is terrible so if you are having any issues, it will be almost impossible to contact the shop. Other than that, definitely try this course out! read more

While it's not impossible, it takes a concerted effort to lose a golf ball here (even for high handicap players). Spring Valley has multiple holes with interesting dynamics, whether you're hitting on an elevated platform onto a long fairway, teeing off with a 6 iron over water, or hitting a wedge 50 feet downhill into the wind. I also appreciate the fact that Spring Valley has old school golf carts. No fancy HUD screens, no geofencing mechanism, and (best of all) no auto-break feature slowing you down as you coast downhill. It seems like a little thing, but to golfers trying to relax and enjoy their round, it's really nice not having an HUD screen advertising beer and chips to you between every swing (looking at you, Bay View Golf Club). There are multiple holes on this course where birdies are within reach... and Spring Valley is the only course where my brother (a mid-to-high handicap golfer like me) has an eagle on his record (hole 3). Another thing I appreciate about Spring Valley is the rate of play. The marshals here typically do a good job of moving things along. We, like many others, have had the marshal approach us about rate of play... only to see that we were on the heels of the party in front of us, apologize, and move on. And while I see several Yelpers complaining about the marshal engaging them, I, personally, prefer that style of patrol over the alternative, where marshals are nowhere to be seen and parties ahead of you start playing 2-3 balls per hole (this happens a lot when I'm at Santa Teresa or Los Lagos). Despite everything I love about Spring Valley and an unwillingness to dock them any stars for my gripes, I do have 2 very minor complaints: #1 is simply that driving from west San Jose to Milpitas is an absolute spin through hell. From the moment 280 becomes 680, the freeway just morphs into a slog of bad drivers. Nobody understands the purpose of each lane or the function it's suppose to serve. Everybody goes the same speed, side-by-side. Slow traffic doesn't move right, nobody passes consistently on the left, there are road boulders obstructing the carpool lane (going the precise speed limit, in what's suppose to be the fastest lane of traffic). It's just a completely open field, where everybody is doing their best to fill up space and prevent you from going around them. Horrific experience. And #2 is that the snack shack girl wraps up too damn early. We couldn't find any weekend times for Spring Valley a few months back so we booked an afternoon 18'er, starting at 1:15. By the time we hit the turn, it was almost 3. Everybody in our foursome was talking about having a hot dog... but when we got there, the lady had 1 dog premade and wouldn't make anymore because she said it was "getting late," so she was closing up shop. Getting late? It's not even 3 PM. People are still teeing off at hole 1. I audibled to a poppyseed muffin and 2 other guys just walked away. Not a huge deal... but something to note. Apparently, Spring Valley only wants to serve players in the morning, not the afternoon. Aside from those two gripes, I have nothing negative to say. Spring Valley is one of my absolute favorite public courses in the entire San Jose/South Bay area. Check it out! read more

Love the course but the ENTIRE staff is absolutely HORRIBLE. Zero stars is possible. Consistently the worst experiences I ever have at golf courses, where the services are usually great. Only issue with the course itself is the pace of place on a lot of days, and no Marshalls most of the time. But the staff royally sucks.. Each and everyone one of them are incredibly rude. I believe there is one skinnier tall gentlemen who was decently nice but that might be the one and only exception. - The guy who hands out the carts and seems like you're hassling him for a cart every time. And he's usually fumbling through the process which is as simple as it gets on any other course. - The guys who check you in all have RBF and act like they hate you, and don't want you to give them your money to play here. They don't seem interested in helping or answering questions. Barely look up at your for an entire transaction. They get annoyed at every question, anything that comes out of my mouth. - the guy who poured us beers and were annoyed that we asked for a pitcher instead of just a beer. We asked this mid pour of the beer, yes, but people wanted more to drink. So god forbid we give your business more money and you have to inconveniently pour the beer into a pitcher. I can't believe how annoyed he was for such a simple change. - No one displays any type of tact, friendliness, or crack the faintest of smiles. Being direct and to the point with zero personality is one thing, being absolute jerks is another. These aren't one off experiences. This is every. I play here quote often. Single. Time. I have a theory, backed by nothing but conjecture, that everyone who works there is family. And the whole family is just like this. I have no other explanation why a number of these same types of people would get hired in the same location. Or that they have not been fired by now for terrible customer service. This issue is to the point where my father, father in law, uncle, wife, brother, and friends all have their own SEPARATE negative experiences with this staff. To be completely honest, it feels racist. And I do not say that lightly at all. It seems like the all white staff doesn't like brown or Asian people. I've seen them be a lot chippier with white customers. Since the last time we played they and had beers after the round we have all decided to never stay for a beer here again. Despite being a fun course, in decent shape, may have to stop giving money to this establishment. Probably stop going entirely. read more

This course is owned by Santa Clara County. It's great that the range has been renovated after many months of out of service. This review is for the food service. They have combined golf check-in in the dining place. About the food service, it's 5-star in my book. Polite and attentive, and the food was excellent, even with limited menu (though the liquor offering looks wide-range, maybe per county's ordinance). My breakfast with eggs-over-easy and hash browns were outstanding. Rest had sandwiches and chicken wraps. Our family went there for lunch and a little putting competition. Enjoyed our time very much. I tipped only 15%, next time will be 25%. Kudos to the chef and the crews working there. I'll definitely come back to play again. read more

I used to hang out here years ago up until I had a bad experience with the older guy (Dave) in the restaurant, I'm not sure if he works there still. So I had been hiking around the park across the street from Spring Valley Golf course. I worked up an appetite so I figured I'd get something to eat. I walked in, ordered something to eat and noticed a group of guys sitting at the bar hanging out. I sat down at a table and waited for my order finish. Since the group of guys were there before me, they got their order first and had their food served to them. But when my order finished, Dave Olson, the guy who took my order called for me and said "your order is ready". Then he left it on the counter and walked away. I got up and walked over to get it. I ordered a bottle of water on another day and Dave was like "WHAT SIZE BOTTLE DO YOU WANT?!!" Which I found to be weird because not once did I ever raise my voice to him or say anything rude. I have seen some people here on yelp mention how rude some of the workers are here. When I started hanging out at Bay View Golf Club (formerly known as Summit Point Golf Club), I never have any problems with anyone. In fact, the people over at Bay View Golf Club are always extra nice to me. If things change at Spring Valley, maybe I'll hang out there again read more

This course is down to 7 min tee times. Easily a 6 hour round on the weekend. By the the 4th hole, there was 2 groups waiting to tee off.

Booked tee time at 2pm and only got through hole 12 by 5 pm. Despite still having solid 30 mins of sunlight remaining, marshall kicked everyone off the course! Definitely could have played at least two more holes with remaining light. Super disappointed with this experience! Out of all the golf courses I have played at, this is the only one where the marshall doesn't encourage players to speed up play, but rather kicks players off the course before sunset!!! If you want to play here, definitely book before 12 pm, or else you wont finish your round. Better off booking super twilight to play 9 holes than paying extra for twilight to only play 12. Giving 2 stars since course was in decent condition. Good layout, tough greens, but VERY SLOW play and very unprofessional management. read more

Although the course is great, the service was absolutely abysmal. We kept a good pace of play and we're encouraged not to use the restroom nor buy food/drinks at the turn in order to not let the individuals behind us pass us. The manner in which we were told this was extremely disrespectful. We didn't say anything although this upset us very much. Following the full 18, we wanted to speak with someone about our experiences and were seeking the name of the individual. We were told his name and "jokingly" told he was single. This homophobic comment made us extremely upset. The employee apologized however this was extremely unprofessional and we were offered little recourse. I suggest enjoying the greens but do your best to avoid talking to the employees more than needed. read more

I never usually post on Yelp, but I want to warn other golfers of this course. My friends and I play at various courses in the Bay Area every week and was unfortunately very disappointed in the management at Spring Valley. At most courses on the weekends, you can expect to wait every so often to tee off due to the amount of players that play. However, our tee time was delayed 20 minutes and we had to wait around 10 minutes on every hole just to tee off. On hole 13 we were 4 hours into playing and decided to call it. On our way back to the club house, we passed 11 other parties on our way. read more
