Both of my kids (7.5 yrs and under 2yrs) just finished their swimming classes here: toddler-and-me and level-2 swim). The facility is in implacable condition and the level of instruction is the best I have ever seen! Don't take my word for it -- check it yourself.

Someone's underwear left in the bathroom. Same bathroom different day.

First the positives. Bryna who teaches the adaptive class is an excellent instructor. Front desk staff are friendly and kind. The pool is fine and it's great that it has walk in rails for people with disabilities. Having an elevator in the building makes the pool accessible. The negatives: hot tub isn't ADA accessible for those who are unable to step down inside. The cabana changing rooms are usually covered in a pool of water making the changing rooms high risk for slippage and falls. It is also unsanitary. Instead of having an additional drains right outside the showers there are drains located by the toilet that commingles shower and toilet water. The paper towel bins are shallow and they aren't regularly emptied. During one of several unpleasant experiences , in a cabana bathroom, I noticed a pair of underwear left behind on the toilet rail and a used Depends in the paper towel bin. Additionally, not having a hook to hang dry or wet clothes when changing is very inconvenient for a disabled person particularly if they don't have family assistance in the changing rooms. Suggestions: for Cabana issues: Invest in large sized bathroom trash bins. Install drains near just outside showers Install hooks outside shower stalls just as the regular shower stalls have. Please improve hot tub so that it is ADA compliant.

I made a reservation to play basketball in the gym cause I was told to do so in order to get into the basketball gym. But by the time I got there, they told me I cannot play even though I made a reservation because there are "too many" people playing there. But there are clearly empty spots showing up on the website. Obviously they found rejected one people out is easier. Then what's the point of making a reservation? I am pretty sure whoever is reading this comment can find a better gym. Stay away from this place.

The new renovations have made this place great. The gym is large and equipped very well. Also, the basketball court and track are nice.

It is what it is. A public gym. Decent machines, very few free weights, a big chloriney (although it is no longer chlorine based) pool

The Rec Center: Overall, I liked the layout of the rec center, and the folks that helped with getting a card were SUPER friendly and helpful. While I have not officially used the rec center, I was a bit disappointed with the the size of the weight room. The size of the weight room reminds of a weight room that one would find in a hotel. However, the gym did look like it had everything that one would need for a decent workout. Also, I was a bit surprised that the rec center does not open until 9 am on weekdays (and Saturday). Based on my prior rec center experiments, I'm used to rec centers opening from 5:30 to 7 am. Then again, perhaps, these hours are for the summer months. The Library: Again, the librarian who signed me up for a card was very friendly. Also, I loved how she gave me a very thorough overview of this branch's services and resources. Although I was in the library for only a few minutes, I thought it was very well organized.

The staff there were very friendly. Will definitely be back.

There is, as people have mentioned, a military facility nearby. I wonder as I drive around, if they are conducting surveillance or if you'd get in trouble for doing something such as taking photographs. I've never had an issue though, if you were wondering. I have gotten lost, however, because it's not quite clear (and GPS is not precise) how you get to where you want to go once you take the exit. I recommend Carderock highly for a hike. I believe it also is a nice place to hang out, even if you don't get to the trail (but why would you go here and not at least take a gander at the water).

There's a small parking lot in the front and trails that lead to an actual recreation center, fields and a playground that doubles as a splash park in the summer. My four-year-old daughter loved the playground. It's modeled after an Indigenous American village along the Potomac River with slides, etc. For being in a wealthy neighborhood, it's a little run down, but still a lot of fun. If you like quirky art, take the small dirt path to the right when facing the parking lot. Walk a few yards to a small opening in the forest to find the "Glass Forest" with art hanging on the trees. It's a little creepy, but also quirky!

There were lots around but no one was telling their kid to not throw pieces of the ground at people. My son was excited about the slide....until he was trampled while going down it by 4 kids (at least 8 years old so they should know better anyways) running up the slide. This hasn't ever been an issue before since caretakers are usually at least sort of watching their kids but nope not here. Overall the equipment was boring and the playground way beyond capacity, particularly during these times. Not a fan, won't be back.

The flood marker shows the flood of 1972 when the water level was 85ft above the river! 85 feet!? I was a young kid visiting Washington DC in 1972 and the flood there was massive as well. There was a one mile long canal built on this side of the river, which was eventually overcome by a superior canal built on the other of the river, which was overcome by the invention of the railroad. Now it's trucks. Soon it will be self driving trucks. Goods have to flow and technology keeps advancing... what's next? Life is good with a nice visit to a unique national park. The first time, I walked here from a mile or more upstream. I met and walked with three Catholic priests who subsequently blessed me after our conversations and upon reaching our destination. Public health aside, I return to find even now there are still signs saying to take the trail one way. And having done it both ways many times, it's the wrong way! Absurd. Supposedly there's some justification, but I think that grown adults can figure out how to hike in two directions without running into each other. As an overall natural resource, it remains a gem (though it must be noted that the Billy Goat B trail downstream is currently closed due to damage).
