This is for the gunsmith in Spring. I live in Crosby. I'm a loyal customer at the Spring Guns & Ammo in Crosby. Since I like the place I use the SG&A gunsmith located at the Spring location. That is 45 miles (one way) from my house. I dropped my pistol off a few weeks ago to get the sights changed. They called me a few days later to tell me it was done. I should have checked the hours. I went for the Staccato Demo day on a Sunday a couple weeks ago thinking I could grab my pistol at the same time. Nope. My bad. Today, I had time to go over there then go to work. I get there at 12 pm and the door is locked. The hours on the door say they don't open until 2 pm. My job doesn't allow me the time to be there at 2 pm and I'm busy most Saturdays. I asked the manager at the gun store if he could help. I explained my situation and he went over and talked to them. He came back and said no. No? Really? I just drove an hour. I just need to pick up and pay. I tried to pay when I dropped off but he said no pay after. I guess he couldn't be bothered. A loyal customer is right outside the door. Nope. Not going to take 5 minutes to help this guy out. I will be finding another gunsmith. Preferably closer. It's going to take longer than 5 minutes when I finally DO go pick up my gun. read more

I was always interested in practicing my aim. I had friends who were ex military, and I would get a little embarrassed at the range. These guys would show me up. So I just happened to see that there are some affordable lessons at this place. It's around 70 for a full hour of one on one instruction. I chose Alejandra as my instructor and she was amazing. She was extremely helpful and she kept it entertaining. My aim improved drastically in one hour. I went from shooting low and off target to hitting or coming close to the bullseye. I'm a much better shooter because of her and now I want to actually practice and get better. You should definitely hire her. read more

I bought a used firearm (S&W M&P 45 Shield) from this shop for $499.00. The very next day I saw that I could get the same gun brand new for $439.00 down the street at academy. So trying to support a local business, I called to see what they could do about this. Give me a credit maybe, discount the gun, or at least let me return it. The manager I spoke with told me that he doesn't keep up with academy and doesn't know what their prices are to which I told him I understand but I'm and more concerned about me paying more for a used model than a brand new one elsewhere. He then told me he could give me a box of ammo if I liked. When I insisted that wasn't good enough, he told me he could take back the weapon, but would charge me a 25% restocking fee. WTF? And again, I just bought this gun yesterday. I told him I want to continue being a patron, but feel like I'm being given the short end of the stick from a business I have supported. He basically told me sorry I feel like that and you can go somewhere else next time and hung up the phone. First, he was rude as heck. I wasn't being demanding or inappropriate with him at all. I brought a concern than it seemed like anyone could understand. Second, I was way over priced. I take some of that responsibility, but I don't think it is unreasonable to seek a remedy from the store if you discover something like this. Again, $499 for used versus $439 for new. That's doesn't seem unreasonable to me. My lesson? 1) Their prices are marked up very high. Go somewhere else to get a better deal. 2) They don't give a damn about customer service. They basically gave me the middle finger and hung up the phone. 3) Don't trust my local gun shop. Once they got my money they were like to hell with you sir. Go somewhere else. read more

Back in April my wife and I visited the Woodlands store. We really didn't know what we wanted so they recommended us to go to the springs store. We had instruction and shooting lesson with Brandon who is one of the instructors. He was fantastic as he removed my wife's fear out of handling a gun. My wife was so enthusiastic that one month later she wanted to apply for an LTC. She passed the test with 100% score and a fantastic practical score of over 200. I read the reviews before I took my revolver to be cleaned and serviced. They told me without the rush two weeks. So I called back it's still not ready, two more weeks. Evidently if you don't pay for a rush they don't look at your weapon! I took the revolver in because the cylinder would not open unless forced. I told him that was primary. Secondly, I left cleaning solution on the revolver, it is nickel plated and tarnished now. they said they would clean that up. During my call to Keith, the lead gunsmith, he stated that it opened (easier) after much debate, I had to explain to him that I wanted it fixed completely not halfway. I had to explain that you don't take something to be fixed and it doesn't get fixed! This man was very angry and went on to tell me about his other duties at the shop. If you don't have time to work on someone's firearm then don't take the work, it's pretty simple ... his assistant said that they had put chemical on it to try to get the staining off. Now I told Keith that solution had caused this problem in the first place and I asked why would he put more solution on to take off a chemical stain? in addition, I am in Louisiana at the time of the calls, he wanted me to come in and look at the gun to see if it was fixed!!! this man is a lead gun smith, if a lead gunsmith doesn't know when a gun is fixed he's not a gunsmith... so, the gun has not been repaired, it has not been cleaned, and the two weeks for them to do it has already come and gone. I should've read all of the reviews.... A gunsmith is a person who repairs, modifies, designs, or builds guns it is someone who has expertise in this field. Not someone that halfway fixes a firearm or has to ask the customer if it's fixed..... read more

Been here multiple times. My first gun purchase was great. An older gentleman helped me out and was very knowledgeable. My second gun purchase from this location wasn't very good. It was a younger guy, he was very pushy, I guess he just wanted to make a sale. It didn't bother me much because I already knew what I wanted. When I've gone to the range the girls who work the register are either very rude or very friendly. Last time I went the young lady was very unpleasant, no customer service skills. Wouldn't go there again, I recommend a gun range down the street from them. read more

A hidden gem! I'm super happy to have found a local Gun Range that's customer friendly, offers a wide selection and has clean facilities. Stopped by in the early morning to get some range time. Ended up double time, a new magazine, and ammo. Lol. Great customer service by Todd and the girls. Clean range with a safety officer watching your every move. My family and I decided we wanted to learn to shoot. After doing a little research we found that Spring Guns & Ammo offered a $50 class on sunday's for beginners. The class was about 1.5 hours of class time going over the basics of stance, holding the gun, loading etc. Then they take you to an indoor range for shooting practice. You get 5 rounds on a revolver and 5 rounds with a semi auto. The instructor stands with you in your lane and guides you through the entire process. At the end of the day you get to take your target home. For attending the class they give you a voucher for a free visit to use the range or 5% off a gun purchase. I enjoyed the entire thing, I just wish I could've gotten to shoot a little more. I definitely think this is worth it for anyone that's never shot before. read more

These guys are pretty nice. Their gunsmith is competent. Range is reasonably well ventilated. The membership is a good value. Folks there are nice. Their prices on firearms aren't that great, but that's not really important to me. Range ammo isn't obscenely expensive, though of course it's not cheap either (never is at these places.). Overall, I like this range best in north Houston. It's not the nicest, but it's a good value, they always have lanes open, their gunsmith hasn't hosed up one of my guns yet, and the folks are nice. they let anybody with a gun and ammo, it doesn't matter that they are dangerous. the last two times i was shooting there, they shut down the range for repairs from yo-yos like this, no decent gun resting place for 2 points. its the only range that would stop me from donating lead and brass at the end of the hour when nobody wants the lane. one employee was present when a shooter accidentally shot himself in the leg, he told he felt safe on the line. That is what's wrong with this unsafe range, people like that. There aren't cameras on the shooters. What a dump. read more

Came here with some friends on a Saturday afternoon. We saw their deal on Groupon and decided to go for it since 3 out of 4 of us had never gone shooting before. It's quite a drive from Houston - it took us about 30-40min to get up there. Once we got to the place, there was about another 30-40min wait before we could get into the range. I guess it's pretty busy on Saturdays. Anyway, it wasn't a problem because there are lots of fun things to look at... like guns. Once we got all of our supplies and into the range, a trainer (is that what they're called?). His name is Bob and he was a more elderly gentleman. Bob was great. He made sure we knew all of the safety regulations and took the time to carefully teach us how to load, aim and shoot the gun properly. Overall, we had a great experience here and would probably come back again. read more

Don't go here. Was thrown out yesterday. Not cool. Went with a friend. Had gone before, had been really fond of the place. Then management (?) noticed my friend shooting with a silencer and demanded to see his tax documentation or we had to leave. And they were NOT nice about this request. Weird. A couple notes: 1) you really should not go grabbing on some guy's shoulder while he is in the MIDDLE of working through a clip. Really? Can't wait 12 seconds before starting a confrontation in the middle of a range with a person holding a loaded gun? 2) I'm a CPA and I can tell you that even the IRS is more polite when asking for tax documentation than these folks were... 3) I'm NOT a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure gun ranges don't have the right to keep records of what I shoot... or the right to demand my tax receipts or for that matter to check my CHL. As I noted, this really sucked. Had gone here before and while the prices for ammo and gear were 'gun range high', it is a nice facility but the folks there were just super uncool. Bummer. read more

I called SG&A at the last minute to see if they could accommodate a ~20 person impromptu corporate outing. Despite it being a busy Friday, they accommodated us, provided a bulk discount, and even had a range officer stay with us the whole time to assist the inexperienced shooters. I've rented several firearms on subsequent occasion without issue. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and prices are in the ballpark of what you'd expect at a brick and mortar shop. I've corresponded via e-mail with SG&A several times regarding inventory, NFA laws, etc. and they've always been quick to reply. The showroom is great while the range(s) are fair. About the only thing I'd like to see is a longer range; wile it works very well for pistols, rifles need more breathing room. read more

I went there once, the staff was polite and attentive. Their range rules are archaic. Other ranges such as Saddle River, Shiloh, Athena, and many more all have up to date range rules that allow for more flexibility in firearm training. If you have to go, the service will be fine, just don't expect to build solid skills because their rules show a low trust in their clientele. read more

I would not suggest anyone go to this range if you care about safety. We were not there more than five minutes when someone shots themself in the leg and luckily the guy was capable of coming out of the range part to notify staff otherwise no one would have known because there was no range staff in the area where they were shooting. However, once we were able to do so, we got a lane and we were on our way. We shot for about an hour. We've been to SG&A on a few different occasions. We have gone on a Friday night before with another couple for SG&A's "Date Night." The staff is always very personable and friendly! It's easy to get in and out. I enjoy going to SG&A. Don't come here if your 18/21 or look like a young person still, it's full of fudds that don't want you there. First off they can't handle a line of 5+ people the man in charge couldn't seem to be sweating and stressing hard for processing a moderate sized line. The range officer checked my gun not ONCE but twice to check if the action was still open. Didn't see him ask anyone else once. I'm not trying to ride my ego but I've been shooting as long as I could walk I know how to handle a gun even though I'm not as old as him. The rails on the stalls are broken sometimes the forward switch makes it come backwards, this almost knocked my loaded gun off the table. The range officer was watching over us like a hawk because we were the only ones under 40 years old in the stalls. It was my friends turn and he was shooting single shots with a second or two in between. ( they allow up to double taps with one second between burst it's on the wall) anyway the range officer yells like a 5 year old "SLOW DOWN" I literally have a video of him shooting right while the range officer yelled that. He was not even double tapping I have video proof or shooting over how fast it says you can on the wall . So if you want to double tap or as fast as you want go to Texas Tactical down the street where you can shoot as fast as you want and really learn how to use your gun to it's full potential to provide the best level of protection for yourself. Also literal false advertising if you don't want people to shoot with one second in between don't advertise it! I have to commend the staff the lady who is range cashier deserves a raise because she is constantly micro managed by the range dude with the same stern voice he used on my friend. And I had a flat tire when I left the place and the dude that was sweeping came to offer help us put the spare on, we didn't need it but it was nice he offered! read more

Opted for the handgun safety/intro course which was an interesting way to spend my first night in Houston. The three instructors were engaging and informed, which is pretty much all you can ask for in something like this. Went with a friend that had many reservations about ranges but he was definitely reassured by the emphasis on safety and education here. Definitely piqued my interest in shooting. Not about to go all American Sniper any time soon (shout out to you, BCoops) but will most definitely swing by a range in the next few months. read more

Took a CHL class there this week. The class was great. Aaron the instructor made the class informative AND kept the class engaged. 5 hours went by in a flash. Facilities are clean and the range is kept nicely. Only thing missing (but not necessary) were the digital distance readout for the targets found in new ranges that recently opened in Houston. The staff are super friendly, helpful, salt of the earth people. read more
