The owner/manager, Efimia "Effie", was a caregiver for ten years before opening AZ Life, so this is not just a business for her; she genuinely cares for seniors. Her husband, Igor, enjoys providing good ol' home-cooked meals ("comfort foods"). Furnished rooms, with or without private bathrooms, include internet connectivity & TVs with cable service. If you have several homes to tour in your research for "the right place", I would encourage you to start here. When I needed placement for an elderly friend of mine, As soon as I spoke with Effie, then had a chance to tour her home and meet her current residents, I knew my search was over. Then, after my friend actually moved-in, my first impressions was completely validated!

I see the other reviews and the food, cleanliness etc. was there. We didn't trust the care after about 2 days. Our opinion is that these care givers have either no training or don't understand dementia at all. Caregivers are rough, loud and forceful; not gentle & understanding of the disease, family treated like outsiders and not listened to. We were not told at initial meeting they did not have over night staff (a must if you have a dementia patient, dementia patients do not sleep through the night and they should have known that). They continued to attempt to force her to sleep/lay down at night-loudly with frustration. (continually complaining that caregiver was tired, irritable and getting no sleep). They have very rigid rules and don't bend. Even convinced our hospice group to prescribe sleep medication, an absolute NO for dementia persons. Our loved one was afraid of all the caregivers. When we moved our loved one out after only a few weeks, she was a mess. Vomiting for days, unable to eat, sleep or even use her walker as she had done prior to moving there. She was much worse than before moving to this facility. Her physical, mental and emotional health has really deuterated after being there. I should have suspected something (guess I choose not to see) when most of our family meetings with owner, including Hospice social worker, we continued to hear owner talk about how much more money should could get. A red flag I didn't recognize.

Avista had little interaction with the patients. Caregivers on their cell phones, most of the day all patients did was sit and watch TV. She fell the first week there and was bruised all over her face and no one called us, so naturally we were upset, but instead of listening to us we were told "to calm down". The head of nursing never followed through with what she said she would do. There were a "few" caregivers that went up and beyond. They were lucky to have them. Kendra in Intake was very kind and interactive when she was there. The last straw was when we were told last minute on (New Years Eve) that we had to move her stuff over to one side of the room because she was getting a roommate the next day. Administrator Angela said she would come show us and help. Never showed up, and then it appeared no one ever moved in...No phone call, no apologies. Look around before placing your loved ones there. A lot better places in town. I 'm just sorry we waited so long.

Prior to finding my mother another facility (see my previous review) my…read moremother was moved to another room over the weekend to a bed that had no call button for help. It was a single room but they moved my mother into it with another woman who was residing there already. A few days later, my mother fell again (Mar. 7 and April 2, 2023) and hit her head. We think she fell from her wheelchair. The newer staff were working but they cannot explain how she fell backwards receiving a cervical fracture. It looks as if they tried to pick her up but because of her weight she fell backwards. One of her pillows had blood on it and the other pillow was missing, probably placed under her head to stop the bleeding. I'm speculating here, but they don't know what happened to the other pillow. The Exec. Director claimed the new staff was trained to not move her. She was rushed to the Banner ER then taken to the trauma center 5 days later on Thunderbird when they had an opening and put in a neck brace for 10 weeks. She is still complaining of pain but at least she is alive. My mom is wheelchair bound and weighs 180 lbs and could not have fallen forward and then backwards unaided. I've attached a picture of her bed which was moved into a single room acting now as a shared room but her side of the room had no call button. They would not allow my mother's medical alert to be used while she was staying at the facility because they said they had the room call buttons. Oh, one last thing, when I asked to see the cameras in her room so I could see how she fell, the Exec. Director Angie told me they were not working yet in that room.

Yvette took me through the whole facility. It was warm, welcoming and so peaceful. Mom would be staying in the memory care. It was so safe, quiet and very intimate. It's set up almost like a Montessori school. They only take around 20 residents in the memory care. I was so grateful they had an opening for her! They have a ratio of about 1 care giver to 5 residents. They had amazing safety systems set up for caring for their residents! We had superb gentle nurses and caregivers like Arrietta and Delores! They looked after mom like she was their own. So protective! There was Pablo who at nights would stay close and talk to mom's room/door so she would feel comfortable and sleep! From the moment she arrived at Orchard Point earlier than expected, Yvette and Patty the Director took such amazing care of her. Even answering their personal cellphones late late at night on our first night there. I was expecting voicemail but they took my call and jumped into action! They quickly helped with any accommodations she/we needed. They helped us as her family find support for her! They and all of the staff in the Memory Care are a family! It felt like home. The residents mom spent time with were so happy. Everyone was active, clean, needs being met! There was not one single resident who wasn't being loved and cared for! Orchard Pointe was such a blessing for us in a painful journey! They took care of us! They took care of us so we could set back and breathe! Orchard Pointe is a Home and a Family! My mom has passed but we will be eternally grateful to have found Yvette, Patty and everyone at Orchard Pointe! They truly love and care for their residents and their families! Thank you everyone at Orchard Pointe for taking care of Mom and me to!

There is so much JOY in the residents and the teams that work with them and there is a true sense of comradery, family and connection. As seniors age, mental and physical capacity may become diminished, but there is still so much spark in the residents I have worked with here and I truly believe it's because the teams working for the communities foster such a wonderful spirit of love and togetherness. They speak hopefully, lovingly and faithfully and it really reflects in the faces and eyes of those who live here. They are committed to loving the residents and you see it! I am not just saying this because I have worked with them for several years doing marketing photography, but because I truly do see a special difference in these communities. Heritage is truly top-notch and a place I've already started comfortably recommending to family friends, because I believe they have something truly special.

The Memory Care unit is operating under different circumstances. All the staff is not trained for mental health behaviors as they claim to be. My mother has a mental illness and she has the onset of dementia with Alzheimer's approaching. She cannot care for herself physically and is mentally challenged due to several mental health diagnoses. Because she was deemed difficult to get along with they have given her a termination notice. This appears to be a pattern as another reviewer complained of this same thing. My mom's fears from her PTSD were not addressed properly and I asked that they accommodate her needs. She was frightened of some caregivers and at times used inappropriate language to express her needs. She has tried to call me several times but they take the phone out of her hand and hang up and tell her she can't use the phone. They moved the handset of the phone off the receiver so it could not be reached to make a call. (See picture) I was told before I signed on the dotted line that my mother would be able to communicate to me using their phone and vice versa because my mother did not have a cell phone. Now they are telling me no, she should have her own phone while in Memory Care. When I called in to speak to my mom last month when I was out of town attending a funeral service, the operator would not put the call through. I pleaded with the Exec. Director Nora and Nursing Director Jessie. They would not put the call through. They would not even use their personal phone, or walk down to my mom's room for me to make sure my mom was okay. Then I asked if one of the caregivers could help. They did ask one of the caregivers to use their personal phone so I could talk to my mom. But subsequently no other calls went through for any family members who have tried to contact her. Ayesha and Michele, the med techs/caregivers for Memory Care get 5 stars for handling my mother's panic attacks and confusions. They are trained on behaviors and always remain pleasant and in control of any situation they are put in. Unfortunately, not all their staff is able to deal with mental health behaviors. In my opinion, all the staff should be trained properly regardless of what shift they are on, so all the residents can get equal treatment or their license should be taken away for Memory Care. I was told they could handle my mother's behaviors when she was evaluated and she was accepted as such. I was told she could communicate with me when she needed. Now, I am looking for another place for my mom. Think twice or you may be in the same situation and it isn't pleasant.

I disagree with Sherry's review in terms of treatment and maintenance. Her review was from 4 years ago and upgrades have been made and I can attest to management and the care that is given here big first rate. My opinion is Sherry had exaggerated expectations. A number of improvements must have been made in the last 4 years as I find it comfortable safe and secure to be here. No it is not a five-star resort but for an assisted living facility which I've been to a few this one is nice.
