My buddy and I were a bit depressed that we were going to leave Texas without having any real barbecue. Unfortunately, it was late on Easter Sunday, and everywhere we wanted to check out was closed or sold out. So we ended up at Spring Creek. I didn't realize it at the time, but this is a chain spot known for their hot fresh bread (not what you want a barbecue spot to be known for). We got up to the counter and only saw dinner plate options. We asked if we could order by the pound, and the guy said it was the same? I dunno, the service was weird all around. I got a plate with ribs, brisket and sausage, and it was OK. The brisket was pretty dry, the sausage was fine, and the ribs were the second best thing on the plate (there is a sign outside that says RIBS) behind the beans. There were two little old ladies next to us who looked like they having loaded baked potatoes for dinner, and that seemed like a solid bang for your buck. Servers are very nice and served me quickly. I got a to go order and the server gave me good choices and free drink of soda or tea as I waited for my order. Just finished having lunch at your location in League City Tx My husband and I have been big fans since early 90's Today's experience was very disappointing and I probably will not be back to this location. While ordering the young man handed me my plate with the HOT bbq sauce the sauce spilled on my hand and the young man didn't attempt to help at all while the sauce is burning my hand. I asked for a napkin and his response was sorry u don't have one!! Really!!! I'm not blaming him for spilling the sauce I did that, but the entire staff's attitude of we don't care was so disturbing. Spring Creek Barbecue has wonderful food and service. The problem, and yes it is a problem, is branding. The establishment itself is dark, brooding, and tired. You're essentially eating BBQ inside a mausoleum. And when you exit the building you have to allow your eyes time to readjust. It's like Seth leaving the T-Twister after a night slaying vampires. Anyway, I asked if they had a bumper sticker for my food delivery vehicle (orange Honda Fit Sport), and the young prairie woman said no. I shared how Rudy's has a couple that they actually sell. I then asked her IF they did have a bumper sticker what it might look like (just for fun), and she said in her Napoleon Dynamite-Kippish voice, "I suppose our corporate logo." Boring! Please don't! Conclusion: You gotta' hand it to Rudy's for the win here in terms of "corporate livelihood." .... and Rudy's has a more fun, inviting, better lit atmosphere; the staff don't look like they've been trapped on the Endurance with scurvy for 45 years. Little dead roaches in the women's restroom. Gross. There were boxes of foil wrapped potatoes in the dining area, labeled with 5/28 and 5/29. My assumption is that these had been washed and prepped and stored there because there was a lack of space in the appropriate dry, dark storage space that is health inspector sanctioned and away from customers who might do something to the potatoes before they are cooked?!?! Why are there potatoes near the dining customers? Before the roaches though, the beans had no flavor other than paprika and the need to be slow cooked for another 3-4 hours. My brisket sandwich was decent. The sauce was just spicy enough to make me want it to be spicier. The fresh baked rolls smell delicious and look tasty, but they taste like you're chewing air. Great customer service and the food was well-seasoned and served in good portions. Definitely will be going back! This is our go-to spot for BBQ along I-45 because the flavor is all there. Spring Creek is a chain by the atmosphere is a little more down-home than other places. The setup is ordering in line like a buffet, choosing a dinner plate or sandwich and then your sides and drink. The dinner plates come with plenty of meat in your choice of smoked chicken, ribs, sausage, brisket, or ham. Sides vary but often include Mac and cheese, baked beans, and potato salad. If those don't fit your tastes, you can substitute your sides with a basket of a specialty side like fried okra. Basket sides come in large portions as well. The flavor of every meat is superb and right on the money for house-smoked meats. The chicken is tender all the way through with just a slight crunch to the skin with dry rub. The ribs are tender; the brisket is tender and flavorful. Even the sausage is a home run and has a bit of a kick. The sauces are more on the sweet side and lacking in the Carolina flavor with vinegar tastes, but they're still good. The only con for us is the price. It is a lot more food than we can usually eat and with that comes the price tag of about $15/person with drinks. But it's not too big of a splurge when you plan it out and don't make it a regular dinner spot. They did offer the replace but my husband did not want something else he wanted a potato so I asked if I could cancel the order. They told me I had to do it through door dash. Door dash said since they "started" on my order I would not be refunded. I called the store back and the manager kept arguing and told me I was rude for wanting to cancel an order that they couldn't fulfill. Continued argue with me even after I talked to my husband and he agreed to substitute something for the potato. Owners... please do some training.
