Deanna at the spotted dog always does a great job with my dog, Ouzo and his sister Zoe! today ouzo went in with some complications - 6 months without a groom and two shaved spots due to some medical complications. she listened really well to what I wanted for him and did really well with him. he's a super fluffy dog too, and I know we all hate when groomers just shave them bald because of the knots and mats, but Deanna did a phenomenal job! we request her every time for our two Coton De Tulear pups! much appreciated! read more

Did a poor job on the face of an Irish Wolfhound. Completely trimmed off his beard and side whiskers leaving him with a plain face. Ruined his look. They really don't know what one looks light. Big disappointment. Final cost was higher than what was posted. I will go elsewhere in future. read more

Got my westie groomed here. I called about a week out, they gave me an appointment and about 45 minutes after drop off she was ready to be picked up. The cut was really good, maintaining many of her classic westie features. The shampoo is also a nice smelling one. Staff seemed friendly and pet-loving. read more

Just picked up my dog after she got a bath and nails trimmed and when I got home I noticed blood on the floor, checked her paws and 2 were bleeding because her nails were cut so short and not filed down so pieces were hanging off. I get sometimes mistakes happen but someone should have let me know when I was there. They clearly knew that she was bleeding because after 2 hours nobody called/texted to let me know she was ready, I just happened to go by because I live down the street. This is the 2nd time that this has happened. It's unfortunate cause they are also close but we will def not be going there anymore. read more

Do NOT take your dog here for a grooming. I brought my small dog here this week to get groomed, and I noticed right away that the women working here tend to lie. A lot. I realized there was an issue when I was picking up my dog because they took quite a while to bring her out to me, and when they did, I saw the groomer DROP her on the floor through a small window on a door towards which she was walking to bring her to us. When I brought my dog home, she developed a condition where she couldn't open her left eye, which was almost swollen shut and tearing constantly. She behaved fatigued and kept hiding from the family, as if she was in pain. She also kept scooting and tending to her backside, as if it was hurt. I called Spotted Dog to ask if they had sprayed something in her eye by accident and to address the fact that they dropped my dog in FRONT of me, and they LIED again and again, saying they would "look through the security video" and ask the groomer what happened and call me back, which they never did. Please avoid this place if you care for your dog. I brought my dog here at 8:30 am because I was told they wouldn't crate her and would groom her right away if I did so, and I am 100% they also crated my dog, which is why a grooming for a five pound dog took over two hours. read more

Be careful with bringing your dog here. Other reviews stating they are correct. My friend's dog went there for years until she saw and heard some very bad things. Not to start trouble she just pulled her dog out and took him elsewhere. Some things that happened were actually cruel. The young girls there lie all the time. Because the dogs aren't taken out, it breaks their house training. Sorry but it no way to run a business. read more

We love The Spotted Dog. Been using them since my dog was just a few months old. He goes to their daycare once a week while we are both at work and he never wants to leave at the end of the day! We watch him on the camera throughout the day and he is always running and wrestling with the other dogs, it's like being at the dog park. He comes home good and tired and sleeps well. We have also used them for boarding several times and our dog is always happy and healthy when he comes home:) read more

we took our dog to the Spotted Dog on July 10 - July15,2021 in Oakland NJ. When we picked her up she was coughing, sneezing and very lethargic in the car. We called the Vet and made an appointment. We were told she has Kennel Cough. She was seen and-is on antibiotics and slowly getting better. I called the Spotted Dog-to let them know my dog got sick at their place and was sick when picked up. They have not returned my call. We are upset because it was obvious that she got sick at the Spotted Dog and never called us or our Vet. To inform us that she was exposed to Kennel Cough. Questionable character - been trying to give this place a chance with a few visits but seriously, pricing is not consistent for grooming and you never get an exact amount of time they spent on the dog. Then the dog comes out from behind the door with, at best, a poor grooming result. The staff is always rushed and never friendly It's unfortunate. read more

I went here for a long time. Boarding and grooming. Loved it. Pricey but worth it had an issue last time where my dog chewed through his leash bc they kept him tied up, apparently unattended, long enough for him to chew it in half! They handed me the dog with knotted leash and half serious apology. When I called owner she said she'd look into it, get back to me, replace leash. Never heard a word. Sorry carol. Not how you do business. Don't want my dog tied up alone. I brought him there for grooming bc he boards there and assumed they would let him run with boarders when he was finished. lucky for me I was able to login to their camera site and watch for a good part of the morning while at work. 1. There is 1 staff member in a room with anywhere from 10-12 dogs! And no staff member in the small dog room. 2. They pee & poop right in the room. Yes the staff cleans it when they see it but not before other dogs have trampled through it 3. When a dog barks or does not do something the staff likes they spray them in the face with a water bottle not one spray it's 4-5 times! I seen this happen repeatedly so it's not an isolated case. 4. I was told they would take Ella out to feed her yet she never left that room or ate for the 7 hours she was there. 5. I never seen the staff play with any dog! Yes I saw the one staff member throw a ball across the room for 12 dogs to fight over or kick a toy but never actually play with a dog or show any kind of affection. I'm sure some of you love this place and that is fine. But I feel it's only fair to share our experience on Day 1! Thankfully I didn't purchase a package so she will not be returning! read more

We have a cocapoo that is a rescue dog from a shelter in Newark. She most likely was abused. She needed a grooming. Took her to Spotted Dog. They did their best, but could not complete the grooming. Not their fault. Our dog has issues. They seemed to be very caring and tried hard. I appreciate their efforts, but our little dog can be a challenge. I will ask my vet for sedatives and go back to Spotted Dog to finish the job. read more

as a customer I feel it necessary to respond to a review of the spotted dog in oakland, NJ. #1 - The dogs poop and pee in the camps because it is set up as a park. It is cleaned up immediately. At holiday times, summer etc the camps are well supported by staff. Did you watch the camera for 7 hours. ? I highly doubt that. You could not have been watching your dog for 7 hours. There are times when the dogs have played and now want to rest. That is downtime. for everyone. All this is explained to customers when they request a tour. So you were well aware of how things work. read more

Been there four or five times with two dogs (Maltese and a hound mix). Both do well. Have not had any issues. They two dogs stay together and there is a webcam for viewing while they're open. The bath on the last day option is good too! read more

I have a 4 year old yorkie... She has always been a very difficult dog to groom. All groomers would complain about her. At every grooming I would take my dog to, she would cry. I always thought she just hated getting groomed. Finally I tried The Spotted Dog. Bella always goes there and seems so happy..and when I pick her up she isn't shaking/scared. They are always able to complete the grooming ( everyone in the past would make her look butchered). I do believe other groomers did their best, but the groomers at the spotted dog makes my dog feel safe. In the past we have left our dog there overnight. Multiple times they even texted us photos of Bella to tell us how good she was being. It has been wonderful to have such personal and friendly care. I highly recommend this location for anyone who considers their pet to be apart of their family. I never have any guilt leaving my dog here! read more

My husband and I adopted a 4 month old puppy who had severe separation anxiety even if I left for 15 minutes nevermknd the whole day for work. I explained it to the women and they promised me he was in good hands and would be taken care of while getting over the separation anxiety. Liars! He is in GREAT hands. My dog wags his tail once we pull up to the place. I've got stuck at work and we arranged for them to drop him off home (additional charge but reasonable and worth it) . They all know him by name and I trust them. You can watch them on camera from a free app on your phone. It's out of the way for us and we have closer doggie daycares to our home but we choose them every time! read more

I started coming here a few months ago & was extremely happy for multiple reasons... however, last week was VERY different & here's what happened: 1st: my puppy has a spot on his back.. at first I thought it was powder but I wasn't able to get it off. 2nd: the cut I explained I wanted to have him shaved down pretty short but of course not see skin, I also asked to not have the top of his head cut just cleaned up because of accessories. She asked if I wanted his ears cut or kept long for bows.. I asked that they cut them. Which all was written on an index card.. The turn out? His hair was cut too short to even attempt a bow on top, &is extremely uneven on his body, almost like it was rushed... which brings me to the next point.. 3rd: He was brought at 1:30, & wasn't ready until 5:30. It always takes 1 1/2-2 hrs. Why it took 4 hours, I cannot tell you. Not to mention, I HAD TO CALL THEM & ask when he would be ready, & was told "oh yea he's ready, sorry he was finished 20 minutes ago but it got so busy I didn't have time to call." ...okay, well they ALWAYS call a 1/2 hour before he's finished, & so why did almost an hour go by? Plus I was afraid to run more errands incase they called as I'm not from Oakland, so little did they know, I was parked just a few spots away & can see the receptionist not doing anything... 4th: when I called to talk about my concerns, the groomer was put on the phone with me, she was not apologetic, nor did she have any explanation. The only thing said was I could bring him right back in to clip his ears... 2 things about that... "what would be the purpose of the bath then?" She made it clear he wouldn't be given another one. ...not to mention if I felt this place rushed with my pup, with it being 5:45, & they close at 6, do you think I'd even trust they'd take their time & be kind? ...sorry for a long post, but I felt the need to explain, this was NOT just an off day. It was incompetent people "grooming with care".... save your time & money, & find somewhere else. read more

I have been taking my dog Lola to Spotted Dog since they opened, both for grooming and boarding. I have been very pleased with the friendly and accommodating staff. She's been groomed perfectly every time I have brought her and she's always so excited to go there! I have always been reluctant to board my dog, but I was required to do this the last 2 years when I went on vacation. It was a wonderful experience and they sent pictures via text and I also saw her online.. they really put my mind at ease! I brought my dog here 3 times to stay over night each time. Two out of the three times I took my dog here he seemed to be given sedatives. When I took him home he could barely keep his eyes open and could barely walk normal without wanting to just lay down. Yes I get he is a hyper and was supposedly playing with other dogs all day, but I have never seen my dog like this and it was always after I left him over night. He had no energy to do anything and was acting so strange. I have heard horror stories of dogs getting loose in the parking lot because they keep the door open and they didn't even know the dogs were loose! I would not trust them with my dog ever again just based on my experience and all the stories I have heard about this place. If you have to sedate dogs, especially puppies, because they are too hyper and you can't handle all them, then maybe you shouldn't be in a dog business. read more

This is the very first time ever having to write a review in my life but I felt it necessary. I have a 1 year old dog with severe seperation issues. We were planning a trip for 5 days and I found this establishment that was near home and thought I would see if our dog would adapt to it. We explained in depth of our dog's issues and weeks before our vacation, we decided to bring her there once a week to see how she did. She seemed to be fine as we were told. We also had her groomed so that she would get familiar with staffing. When I dropped her off, I had provided her favorite bed, toys, and a t-shirt of mine so that it would make her feel more like home. I also had made arrangements to have her groomed the day we were picking her up. I was re-assured that she would be well taken care of and that to put my mind to ease, I could view her on camera. While on vacation, I attempted numerous times to view online and could not therefore I called multiple times to check on her. I was told every single time that she was doing just fine. I asked if she was eating ok and if she had an accidents and was told all was good. My husband called that Thursday morning to let them know we were back and wondered if she had been groomed yet so that we could pick her up. My husband was told that they thought she was being picked up on Friday and that she had not been groomed. He was also told that a groomer had called out and that they were not sure if they would be able to fit her in that day and that she could always be brought back to do so. We decided to just pick her up and I was horrified when I picked her up. When I got there, I brought her belongings to the car first and had noticed that her bed was full of urine stains, feces, and smelled horrific. The shirt I had left was in a bag and also had urine and feces on it. When I went inside I mentioned that her bed was completely soiled and why was I told that she had not accidents when I called. The owner mentioned that she was not aware of any accidents and then an employee said that she had and accident on the first day but was fine after that. She also mentioned that she would have washed it but the cover would not come off. When our dog came out, she smelled absolutely horrilbe. The owner agreed that she smelled and said that she would "throw her in the tub" if I wanted to and that I could come back to pick her up. I said no that I would bathe her at home. This is my very first time ever having to board a dog and I was so angry as I was driving home as to how can an establishment hand back a dog and it's belongings in that condition with no regard at all. How can you allow an animal to sleep in a soiled bed for 5 days? I had to wash her 3 times just to get all the dried urine and fecies off. I felt so terrible for leaving her there in that conditon not knowing that this is how this business is run. Needless to say, I will never bring her back. read more

Please don't put your dog at risk. Our puppy lost 13 pounds in a week. He had boarded there happily a year ago for a week with no issues, we boarded him (a mid sized rottie) and our mid sized German Shepard together. However we got a call saying that he growled at someone while we were on vacation. I said if absolutely necessary they could apply a soft muzzle when escorting him from the cage. On the drive home a week later we got a call that he was at the vet, could we give permission to treat. I said yes, they didn't tell me what was wrong. Then the spotted dog called again to say they'd be closing so they needed me to pay over the phone, I gave my credit card information. Next the vet called us in the car to say that our dog had cuts on both sides of his mouth from the muzzle, that he had lost 13 pounds and his eyes were cruddy and closed shut with conjunctivitis. I called the spotted dog and said I needed to speak with the owner, I was told she was on disability, she never had the decency to call me back. We paid the vet bill and put in a claim with Amex which the Spotted Dog fought, and we ended up paying almost $700 for abusing our dog plus the vet bill This place is supposed to employ professionals that can handle dogs, clearly they had professionals working there last year. In order to board there, you have to go for a temperament interview which both of my dogs passed. It makes me so sad to know that my dog didn't eat for a week, they didn't notice the cuts until the day we were coming home because they didn't remove the muzzle to let him eat. Shame on the spotted dog. When they took my credit card info over the phone, the girl said "obviously your rottie isn't welcome back but your other dog can come back anytime," as if..... read more

We have a 9 month old very active male Labrador Retriever. We decided that it would be a good idea to have him be active during the day and socialize while we are at work, instead of being home in a crate. We paid for 2 days ($66) where he spent approximately 6 hours between the 2 days he was there in solitary confinement. The reason being he was "too active" with the other dogs. They have cameras that you can watch your dogs in the play area during the day and we honestly were lied to on both days. On the 2nd day another dog was trying to jump on our dog, but our dog was removed from the play area. On the first day an employee basically sat on our dog holding him down in the play room in front of the other dogs to "calm" him because he was "too active" and they also spray them in the face with water if they don't like their behavior. Lastly, they do not walk them outside ( unless requested) during the day but are just let to go to the bathroom in the playroom. So if you like anything I had to say than this place will be perfectly fine for your dog. This is not an environment I want my dog in and I don't think many other dog lovers would either. read more
