During our week-long trip to the Kalispell area, we ended up in Whitefish a few times. In those few visits to Kalispell, I think we stopped by Spotted Bear 80% of the time. Creative, tasty cocktails. This was a recommendation a must do when visiting. We arrived via Amtrak and hit the town by foot . Made it a must do at 4:00 ! 6 people sitting at the bar and 3 mixologist I'm assuming again assuming?? Absolutely no interaction or engaging with patrons. I guess we are from a bygone era . If your selling something special or unique we felt some history or at least excitement would be welcome. We left with none of the above . Stopped in for a quick drink before dinner, small spot and gets packed right at open for good reason. I had an amazing drink and my wife as well and were blown away with them, it was a very sophisticated cocktail for being out in Montana. The menu is small, but you can't go wrong. LOVED Spotted Bear!! Their cocktail menu is very unique and refreshing as they have drinks I would never think to try - like adding kale????! It was like a mojito and it was surprisingly good. We didn't check this place out until the end of our summer so we only stopped in a few times and then on our way out of town we stocked up on some gifts for friends at home. My only disappointment was that they have a 2 drink limit - why??? I know they are craft cocktails and by that nature tend to have a higher alcohol content but 2?? Maybe they just don't want people camping out or want the responsibility of having to kick someone out? Either way, just gives you more reason to return and try the rest. All their juices, syrups, tonics, shrubs etc are freshly made which really makes a difference. Even just a greyhound is so much better that way. Definitely check them out if you can! read more

This place was real fun. Great vibe, amazing cocktails- the Paloma was super refreshing- shaken not stirred and the use of fresh grapefruit instead of soda elevated it to a whole next level. The margarita was also really amazing and you're hearing from a Texan who is known for making a killer margarita. Then we did a flight of tasters. Loved the atmosphere of SBS. Great for a quick drink before or after dinner, or to meet with friends. No bar snacks or food served. They have ample seating and a window to the distillery. I went during pride and they had a limited 6 drink pride themed menu, so they were not serving their standard drink menu. I wasn't too happy about that since I thought the standard drink menu looked better. If you're wanted to try it out during a festival, call ahead to see what they are serving. Other than that I though the drinks were tasty and would recommend SBS. read more

Was in whitefish for a quick trip and yelped to find a distillery that was open at noon, as we were heading back to Missoula at 1pm. Was delighted to find Spotted Bear Spirits. Close by, opens at noon and great reviews. Wondering how Whitefish distilleries stack up to our hometowns! We headed over and pulled up at 11:59. Waited till 12:03 and walked up. Locked, lights out. Perhaps someone overslept, we'll wait. It's now 12:15 and we've been sitting outside in the car waiting for someone to show up to open.. sign says noon, website says noon, yelp says noon, Facebook says noon, voicemail says noon. But nobody is here. Unfortunate. As a professional business owner if you are not going to be open during advertised times, it's best to leave a note or change your voicemail or something. This distillery served me the best cocktail of my life. I'm not even exaggerating. If you come to this place get the "Neighbor to the North", you won't regret it. I also tried the Ramblin Blues which was a beautiful color and incidentally a lovely taste as well. Would highly recommend this as a must see stop if you come to whitefish! read more

When we walked in for some afternoon drinks and the bar area is a mix of lodge and industrial feel. The staff is super friendly. They offer flights of their liquor options and they have a good mixture of cocktail offerings. They have bar seating as well as tables downstairs and a balcony area with additional seating. For our first set of drinks we got the Gin + House Tonic and the Moscow Mule which was served in a traditional copper mug. The Moscow mule was amazing which is understandable with fresh ginger brew. Gin + House Tonic slightly sweeter than traditional Gin and Tonics that I've had but it's super fresh with just a hint of lime. For our second set of drinks we got a Paloma and the Flathead Sling. The Paloma comes out with a grapefruit peel for decoration and you get a want of that fresh citrus smell when they set drink down. The Flathead Sling is berry in color but you definitely smell the pineapple. It's not super sweet and the Flathead cherries calm down the sweetness level. This would be a great place for pre-dinner drinks on a date night. We can't wait to come back. read more

Just one of the many fine craft distilleries Montana has to offer. This was the first time my wife and I came here and we both had the best Moscow mules we've ever tasted! They do not have anything aged yet (I.e. Whiskey) so if that's you're thing, you'll be disappointed. But their other spirits are top notch. Great location in downtown whitefish and within walking distance to many activities. Decent amount of space inside and a nice, open feel. Check it out. read more

Visited on a Wednesday and was somewhat disappointed to learn they only serve limited cocktails on Wednesday because Wednesday is flight day. However, our disappointment was quickly evaporated at the first taste of our cocktails- both the huckleberry margarita and the rambling blues (blueberry, sage, limoncello) were popping with flavor in the best way. We delighted through every sip and even decided to do a flight. We were absolutely astounded by how smooth their spirits are- the vodka is made from beets and was so smooth and subtly sweet I actually ENJOYED it straight. Loved the coffee liqueur as well but it was on the sweet side for my partner. We were wowed by the mountain mint- he described it as a rainbow of flavors. Everything was reasonably priced- $5 tasting flights, $8 cocktails, bottles around $30. Ended up going home with bottles, and if we were in town longer we would definitely have stopped back to try their other cocktails! read more

I'm going to give this place a 2/5 for the mint liquor which was really minty and smooth. However the rest of the liquor was average. I am more of bourbon/whisky guy and they didn't have any to offer. The server was friendly at first then just sort of ignored us when we were wondering what cocktails paired well with the mint liquor and then when we tried to pay. I've been to a lot of distillery's and I've never felt such disdain from servers who are trying to sell their liquor to you. Idk if he was just being snooty or if he's just a dick but it totally ruined my experience from a 4/5 to a 2/5. So much so that I was enjoying the town and more than willing to spend my money for dinner and try some more drinks to just wanting to leave. I've never experienced anything like it before and never expected to experience it in Montana and feel so unwelcome. Just thought I'd leave my experience so all out of towners know they aren't welcome there. It's no problem there are plenty of other distilleries and breweries to try in the area for me to just move on where I can spend my money to have a more pleasant experience. read more

Cool place! My sis and her hb took me here on the last night of my visit. Delicious unique cocktails. I love the lower alcohol, higher on creativity/swanky vibe tasting room...as opposed to a get drunk bar. The three of us got two cocktails each and every single one was epic. When I found out a new distillery was opening I was so excited to try them! We came by here and were the only ones in at the time. The bartenders were so polite and answered all our questions. They only make vodka at the moment but soon are brewing gin and barreling whiskey. They have local and homemade mixes for their drinks which make them even better. The cocktails are exceptional. They have big bottles and little bottles of the vodka to sell, soon in local stores. The place is really cool and open with a little upstairs loft with mismatched vintage chairs to relax.
