Small restaurant with awesome food. I love the meatballs there! They also have vegan options. Go here for the best traditional Swedish Meatballs!

That is why I stepped into Buljong (broth in Swedish) in the middle of a hot summer day. I didn't find the attitude I am always looking for but boy did I find a kick ass soup kitchen! Amazingly Buljong is a small soup kitchen acting and operating and maintaining quality and standards usually seen in finer restaurants. Buljong is the smallest soup kitchen possible in fact I am pretty sure the owner who also works in the kitchen could just as well save on rent moving to and operating from a street food vendor truck. No worries he won't though: regardless of global warming we still have 8 months and shades of winter grey even in tha south of Sweden! The menu is simple; at least 4 and sometimes a few more weekly and seasonal changing soups. All containing organic and eco-friendly ingredients made with love and care (or how would you describe handpicked chanterelles!?) served with own made herb infused cottage cheese and nice slices of sourdough and some sort of olive mash I could for one happily live without! We had chunky and el dente asparagus soup nicely under the spell of dill and smoked salmon; a perfect dish. We also had the tomato soup with root veggies and spicy sausage which I will be consuming winter time as a new staple food from now on! A friend in the group also vouches for the chanterelle soup which in fact I tasted and liked a lot. But to be honest at the time my taste buds were heavily under the influence of a spicy sausage slice and in my mind I was imagining how wonderfully tasty a mixture of both soups could be.

When I arrived, I was charmed by the ambiance but disappointed to be told that they couldn't serve me because they were booked and I didn't make a reservation in advance. However, the greeter asked me how quickly I could eat. I was dining alone, so pretty quick. She decided to seat me at a long table, set to serve a party of eight or so, by myself. I promised to finish within 30 minutes before the party arrived. I sat down a looked around. The decorations were charming, and did in fact make me feel like I was in Việt Nam. The walls had fake window covers in the colonial French style. There was a small cart straight from Việt Nam in the center of the restaurant, from which a street vendor might sell handmade foods. And at the entrance wall there is a life-sized poster of a busy street with motorbikes in Sài Gòn, with frantic electrical lines haphazardly strung across the sky. And indeed, above the restaurant there were "electrical lines" randomly strung throughout the restaurant, to make you feel like you're living inside the poster. Very nice touches. Alas, this sensation and the kindness of my greeter were the highlight of my experience. For someone who sat me down on the promise that I had to eat quickly, they kept me sitting there with the menu for quite a long time. I ordered an appetizer and a classic Vietnamese dish of Vermicelli, grilled pork, and eggrolls. The appetizer was not what I expected it to be. I read it from the Vietnamese in the menu and even accounting for regional differences in dialect, I was pretty confused by what I got. Maybe I was tired from traveling so I won't count that against them. The appetizer was fine although I would have called it something different and had I known this was what I was ordering, I wouldn't have bought it. As for the main dish, the fish sauce was very authentic and delicious. The pork and the vermicelli were good. There were even picked carrots that were delicious. All was great, except that the eggrolls with this particular dish were of the Chinese sort, with cabbage inside, which was not the right sort of thing to go with this dish or to go with fish sauce. The sort of eggroll in this dish was the kind that goes with sweet and sour sauce. I can't believe someone would serve Chinese egg rolls in this particular Vietnamese dish -- they are two completely different things -- and made me question the judgement of the chef. I had gotten off a 12 hour flight and took a 45 minute train to get here. I was craving a specific thing, and I felt tricked by what I got. Kind staff. Great decor. Food is decent but ultimately disappointing.

Their selection of starters and main courses is what you would typically find on a Vietnamese menu, so you'll find many familiar choices, including pho. I went with a fried rice dish with vegetables, chicken and beef, topped with a fried egg. They also have a good selection of cocktails, wine, and beer. Also, their desserts are all lactose free! (Items on the menu that contain gluten are also clearly marked.) The service is very kind and attentive. Two large groups came in to dine after I arrived, so you can tell that this is a popular place.

It's a little gem tucked away on Agnesgatan, and the fresh food and sunny courtyard are all you need for a relaxing lunch. You can choose from a 135 SEK brunch platter (available from 11.00-14.00), the 79 SEK daily soup, or 89 SEK daily meal (a heaping bowl of vegan curry when I visited). Both include bread, coffee/tea, water, and a selection of side salads. Make sure to save room for the countless vegan & vegetarian desserts that include cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and chocolate coconut balls. They also have a selection of organic sodas and juices. The feel is casual, like you're in someone's kitchen at home. Serve yourself from the tables set up inside, and be sure to take your meal outside if it's nice out. The courtyard is decorated in a funky yet tranquil way, and the staff are friendly. As it becomes popular during lunch hour, there may be a line and the small serving area can become crowded.

But when you are in Sweden, sometimes you could unexpectedly went to a vegan cafe and that's what Richard S and I did last time. I didn't see the word "vegan" until last minute and that when I was already desperate for some coffee and cake because I hadn't had proper breakfast and lunch at our Malmö office. Gimme a cake, I said (well, not exactly that), and I got chocolate brownies with mocha and a cortado, while he got some peanut butter pie with lingonberries on top (so Swedish) and vanilla sauce with black coffee. My brownie felt massive without egg. It felt like a block of brick to me, but I ain't complaining since I was hungry and the brick consistence was actually very filling. Again, it wasn't bad and it was very chocolate-y, just not in the moisty sense that a brownie should be. The peanut butter pie was VERY SWEET and I am far from having sweet tooth, so you're warned now. I guess the lingonberries on top would give it nice sour twist for the pie along with vanilla sauce that even the cafe attendant warned that it didn't go well along with the pie (so, why did you serve it then?) Sorry, the two stars is for the fact that they're not serious about their own food. I didn't try their "thai stew with tofu and pakchoy - which I am pretty sure it could be super delicious since I'm fan of those two - but you don't serve a pie with a sauce that you yourself think that they don't match together, do you? I had no complaints about my brownies but still the carnivores in me would rather go to another cafe with milk and egg option. Service is ok, you could get refill for your black coffee and the place is decorated nicely that almost look like your grandmother's living room. Quite cozy, I suppose - but unless you're a vegan, I would say try go somewhere else

A bar in the middle and mixed seating with table cloths gave it a fine dining feel. They are known for their extensive Wine and Champagne list and that definitely lived up to the billing. We ordered a bottle of Zuccardi 2021 Torrontes-light, fruity and paired perfectly with Brunch. Extensive list of Brunch selections that came out as a Seafood tower- Shrimp from Smögen, king crab, prawn salad, crayfish in garlic, seafood salad, cured fjord salmon, herring, fish pâté, smoked salmon, langoustine, cucumber and horseradish salad, eggs, bread, sauces-all so fresh and delicious! Fish and Chips were tasty and we finished with a White Chocolate Mousse. Service was friendly-that said, could've been more attentive. We did have a chance to speak with the owner and he shared how they've recently redesigned their interior. For our party of four, about $60 USD or 600 SEK per person for a Seafood Lover's Brunch. Lives up to "the city's coolest Sunday Brunch" billing!

The wine list looked okay - with a minimum price per bottle probably close to $60. Any wine can be had by the glass, with the price of the glass simply a quarter price of a bottle - don't know how big the pour is. As the result, my choice of drink was sparkling water. The restaurant offers the tasting menu with 3 dishes, but somehow I didn't feel like dessert (one of the 3 dishes), so I decided to create my own tasting menu. My first dish was seafood soup, some sort of a bisque, which was good but not necessarily a standout. For the second dish I was looking for something reasonably priced, so I ended up with the white asparagus creation, which again was okay, but rather small for the entrée dish - I guess you get what you pay for. Service was friendly but rather slow. No recommendation on this one - may be someone will make better choices.
