Not a bad spot for little league spring and summer teams, but you have to catch them during open hours which are on odd ball days. Selection is all over the place and they don't really specialize in anything in particular. Entering/exiting the lot is horrible, and parking is very minimal. We went to visit on July 4th. There were a few people there but there was no wait. The staff working were nice and gave good recommendations. The covered seating was perfect on the hot day. It was clean and comfortable. At the employee's recommendation, I had chocolate concrete with fresh raspberries and chocolate chunks. It was very good. Reminiscent of my childhood when I'd get blackberry ice cream with chocolate jimmies in New England. My niece loved her cherry snoball, too. Ice cream was great and the kids loved their snow cones. They have great seating and a really nice patio. The service was good, except that they wait until the whole order is done, so the snow cones had already started melting. I was disappointed when I paid and the preset tip options were 20, 25, and 28%. That seems a bit steep for ice cream. read more

My sundae was good and the place was really cute but the service was so strange. I work in costumer service so I fully understand everyone has an off day but the girl was extremely rude to us tonight and then continued to complain about us to her coworkers I guess thinking we couldn't hear. I had asked for a size small and there was a misunderstanding where she thought I wanted a medium. I politely asked for a small instead. She said "I already charged you" I said oh no worries I misunderstood she said "well I clearly explained it to you and it's obviously posted on the window" with so much attitude in her voice. Our go-to custard place. Always great!! They have a great selection of "specialty" concrete flavor combination ideas, and your choice of vanilla or chocolate custard. They do also have some snacky stuff on the menu, frozen custard cakes, and snow cones. (The snow cones are the only thing we've had that I didn't care for, but that's because I'm a shaved ice kind of girl.) Outdoor seating. read more

Holy Moley they are good! I like them more than Ted Drews, Spanky's and the Malt shop. I had a strawberry concrete. I was so thrilled that my concrete DIDN'T have that cheap corn sugar strawberry flavoring junk taste to it. I'm talking the stuff bars use to make strawberry daiquiris. I felt that the their frozen custard had the perfect texture, creaminess, and sweetness. The bad of this place... well it is kind of in a weird spot I'm surprised I noticed it. It is off the highway side road up a big hill. When going south you can't even see the store so look for the ice cream cone mail box and turn there! It was my first visit to Spooners. The exterior is very clean and looks well kept. I loved the purple. You can either sit outside to eat or eat within the tunnel that goes from the front to back of the building. The custard is tasty and smooth. I enjoyed my snickers kiddie concrete. (Note to self: the caramel in the snickers gets hard because of the temperature and is kind of hard to chew...go with peanut butter cup next time). It's kind of expensive, but it was enjoyable. read more

We visited July 2013. The staff was friendly, however, there were no customers there and the outside "dining area" was messy, then again, it was summer and this is ice cream. Still, it was a surprise to see no customers and yet the area was not clean - or being cleaned. The ice cream itself was amazing. However the staff was very rude after the woman asked for my name she closed the window and proceeded to make fun of my name with her co-workers. My sister and I could hear them through the window. When they gave us our ice cream my sister asked the young woman what was so funny about my name the woman shrugged and then shut the window on my sister. Very disrespectful service all in all especially since as my sister was walking our ice cream to us they continued to watch and laugh at us. read more

OMG Spooners, you are wonderful! My husband and I realized we were in trouble moving into our new home within walking distance to Spooners. Once my Husband went the first time, he was hooked. Their service is friendly and it's always clean and well kept, even with outdoor seating (which a lot of other ice cream placed neglect). The owner, Julie, is very nice. First, let me say that the frozen custard is good. And there are lots of toppings available. And the shop is cute. But what is not good are the prices. I have patronized dozens of FC stands in St. Louis (Ted Drewes, Fricks, Silky's, etc), as well as other states, and I can say that Spooners was the most expensive I've ever seen. I noticed right away on the board what I thought was some exorbitant pricing (for example a large malt/shake over $5.00). Then, I noticed that many of the "custom" and "special" flavors had additional charges. For example: Wildcat, with caramel, pretzels and chocolate dip, an extra $1.40. But my wife and I assumed that the portion size would justify the prices. Nope. We ordered a small sundae, and got 1 small scoop, about the size of a kid's fist. You know those small clear plastic cups you get wine samples in? That's what they use for small. On top, scant amounts of toppings. Oh, and a waffle-cone wedgie. All this for $9.61. For the price of large elsewhere (lots of places), you get small here. So, a family of 4 potentially spending over $20 for ice cream out? Since they sell a quart for about $6.00, you could buy that and add your own toppings liberally. Or go somewhere else. I know I will. read more
