Moo. This cow enjoys grazing at Bardic Brewing. It's a family-friendly brewpub in Spokane Valley…read morewith thoughtful craft drinks, good food, and a calm pasture where conversations don't have to compete with loud music or glowing TV screens. When this cow wanders in, there might be stouts being slowly savored near the fireplace, humans discussing ancient literature, a family laughing over a half-finished pizza, or a nearby table deep into a heated game of Magic the Gathering with ESBs and cider in hoof. It's cozy, communal, and usually feels just right. One thing this cow respects -- the beer here is strong, and it's not brewed for the weak. There's nothing on tap that isn't unique or intentional. That said, this also means Bardic isn't for everyone. The average beer drinker looking for a simple, easy-drinking West Coast IPA that isn't pushing 9% ABV may leave unsatisfied, and that likely eliminates a large portion of beer drinkers in the area. For adventurous palates, though, this place is a treat. Lately, this cow has noticed the welcome hasn't been quite as warm as it used to be. The beer and food remain excellent, but the last few visits felt a bit less friendly. A smile or a greeting would go a long way in restoring the inviting feel this pasture is known for. Nothing has soured, and this cow will return. I just hope the hospitality rises to match the boldness of the beer and the heart of the space -- because when it does, Bardic Brewing is a fantastic place to graze. Moo.

Imagine our surprise to find this location to be so much more warm & welcoming. Clearly, based on the theme, we are not among the target clientele, yet, you wouldn't know it based on service & customer interactions, many were regulars. Tons of games available & interesting decor. Here, I had a very tasty pineapple Cameo IPA. Being as I'm not usually an IPA fan, I'm not sure if that's a compliment or an insult. Either way, I was happy! The hubs had Cure Dark Wounds, which was also tasty but I liked mine better. We didn't order food but others were recommending selections and there were several pick up orders while we were there, so, probably worth a look.

This was also brewery #284 for me! Natural 20 has a nice sized taproom with a smallish bar at the front. It was pretty slow when we walked in which was cool for us as we got to chat with the gent working the bar and another guy that was there. I did not do a good job of reviewing each beer I tried because we were talking too much. That said I enjoyed the beers but weirdly I'm going to comment on the food more. SWPFTD ordered a pint while I got a flight. Of the ones I tried I liked Featherfall and Dual Spires the best. We also ordered some lembas bread with bacon and a bratwurst sandwich with bleu cheese, the Dracoliche. Really good! The people were super friendly, the vibe and beers were really good, and the food was solid. Score! If anyone is a glutton for punishment, please, follow my brewery, and distillery, reviews from across the U.S. and beyond! https://www.yelp.com/collection/-8iscFkpiiCI563-FDfwGg and if anyone is wondering who SWPFTD is you will have to check out my review of Black Market Brewing Co in Temecula, CA to understand. Yes, you will need to read into it a little to get the joke but I have confidence in you! I hope my confidence is not misplaced.

MAD COW REVIEWS: 45 DEGREES…read more Listen up, herd. Mad Cow has wandered into 45 Degrees in Spokane Valley multiple times now, and I feel obligated to report my findings: This place is udderly fantastic. Yes, I know I'm a bull. No, I don't have udders. Don't ruin the joke. 45 Degrees is one of those hidden little Spokane Valley watering holes that you almost don't want to tell people about because then everybody will show up and take your favorite spot at the trough. But I'm telling you anyway. THE BEER: Fabulous. They craft their own beer, and you can tell somebody actually gives a damn about what's going into the glass. There's attention to detail here. This isn't "pour something fizzy in a pint glass and slap a clever name on it" beer. Mad Cow takes his grazing seriously. He takes his beer even more seriously. THE OWNER: Incredible host. Every time I've been in, I've felt welcomed. He's friendly, involved, and clearly cares about the people walking through his door. That's becoming increasingly rare, and it's a big part of what makes this place work. THE FOOD: Yep, there's grub. They have appetizers, they're actually GOOD, and they pair perfectly with sitting around having a beer and absolutely nowhere important to be for the next hour. But here's what I like most about 45 Degrees: The herd. The people I've met here are just good people. It's mellow. It's fun. It's welcoming. Nobody seems particularly interested in who you are, what you do, or whether you arrived in a $90,000 truck or rode in on a tractor. Pull up a chair. Have a beer. Join the herd. That's the vibe. It's tucked a little out of the way, which is probably why more people don't know about it yet. Personally, I think Spokane Valley needs to fix that. So Mad Cow is officially letting the secret out of the barn: Go find 45 Degrees. Have an appetizer. Try the beer. Meet the owner. Talk to the people sitting next to you. Just don't take Mad Cow's seat. There WILL be a stampede. MAD COW RATING: 5 HOOVES UP. Yes, cows only have four. It's that good.

I don't hand out compliments easily. Usually I walk into places ready to snort, judge everyone…read moresilently, and knock over patio furniture if the vibe is weak. But Badass Backyard Brewing? Absolute pasture-approved excellence. First off, the name says 'Badass,' and for once it's not false advertising. Most places slap edgy words on the sign and then serve beer that tastes like somebody filtered rainwater through a flip-flop. Not here. The beer actually has personality. Bold flavors, small-batch attitude, and enough variety that even a 2,000-pound bovine with anger issues can find a favorite. The atmosphere? Perfect. Cozy, chill, unapologetically local, and zero pretentious craft beer nonsense. Nobody in there is trying to explain 'notes of elderberry with a whisper of regret.' They just hand you a great beer and let you enjoy life like civilized savages. Also, respect to the fact this place started as an actual backyard brewing operation. That's the kind of origin story I can get behind. No corporate boardroom. No focus-grouped IPA names. Just straight-up badass energy and good beer. Wanderlog And let me say this as "no-bull": if your brewery is dog friendly, has live music, rotating taps, and encourages people to relax instead of acting like beer sommeliers defending a PhD thesis... you're doing it right. Final verdict: 5 out of 5 horns. Would absolutely charge through a fence to drink here again." -Mad Cow

Hundreds of Hops self-guided US Hop Passport Brewery Tour Stop #13 (3rd stop for Washington)…read more This is a quaint & comfortable brewery, from the hand sewn coasters to the homemade dog beds, this place screams welcome home. Even if the beer was bad, you might still come here just for the vibe. Added bonus is that the beer IS good. We had a very solid IPA & coffee stout There was an odd experience of someone pulling into the parking lot, coming inside to use the restroom, then proceeding to cordially ask each table if they could spare $10 for gas money. Each table refused, she thanked everyone and left. Possibly a testimony to how welcoming the place appears.
