The environment of this place is great, big inviting picnic tables, coloring books and crayons for kids, etc. My alarms went off when I realized I didn't see a bbq pit outside, but maybe they bring it in from another place? My wife's pulled chicken legitimately smelt like urine. Hamster urine to be specific if you grew up with that pet you know what I'm talking about. I paid $20 for a brisket plate and it had no flavor, no evidence of smoke, no evidence of even salt or pepper. It honestly tasted like crock pot chuck roast. The sides we ordered for the meal were potato salad and green beans that were tasty. The best thing was the desert a hot peach cobbler with ice cream on top. This desert was so tasty. This one offers an option that is a little off the beaten path as you head down Scottsville Road. I take the bypass to get to it from the university to avoid the traffic. i got to the restaurant today at 12:32 pm with only three others in front of me. When I finally got my food it was 1:07pm. I asked the girl that gave me my food if it always took this long and she said not usually but they were really busy. 32 minutes seems like a long time to get three people their food and that doesn't seem "busy". No apology for the wait either. I think I would've took it better if there was an apology. I'm all about supporting local, but don't think I will be back! I'm always on the search for good BBQ, and found this place on the road driving I-65 near Bowling Green, KY. We stopped for a late lunch, 4 miles off the highway. The ladies at the counter were super nice, and helped us as we figured out our orders. I had the chopped pork dinner with gold sauce, green beans, and white cheddar Mac 'n cheese. Delish!! My son had a pigtato, a concoction with mashed potatoes, chopped pork, cheese, BBQ chips, and chives. He ate that and was overwhelmed at how good it was for lunch, and again for dinner. My husband had the pork stack, with sweet sauce between two corn cakes. Also yummy. I have to comment on the Mac 'n cheese - it really tastes like white cheddar, and was creamy goodness. Everything we ordered was perfect. Generous portions, very affordable. All of the staff were friendly, fast and efficient. The entire place was extremely clean. I ordered food from Takeout Waiter tonight and I honestly could not have gotten a more delicious meal! I got the pulled pork plate with mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. The mashed potatoes were so delicious and garlic-y, and they actually had little bits of the potato skin which is the measure of a worthwhile mashed potato. But the whole star of the show was the PECAN COBBLER. Oh. My. God. I didn't know pecan cobbler even existed and now my life will never be the same. So - got a recommendation from a co-worker to check this place out after kvetching about BBQ spots on BG's main drags. And it was exactly what I was looking for: simple, family run, without a lot of cheesy neon, misogynistic, or "fat piggy" overtones. The potato salad and the cole slaw sides were definitely above average; although some of the potatoes had an oddly meally texture (I'm assuming they were undercooked), the overall flavor was tart, moist, and unique. The cole slaw also had an understated, tart, yet somehow creamy flavor, without tasting at all like mayo (I think it's mayo-less, but only had a small serving, so don't quote me). The chicken looked and smelled A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! But the leg (dark meat, obvs.) was far, far more tasty than the breast meat. Both had distictive flavors - and it's not that the breast was dry (it wasn't) - but the smoke used seemed to pair better with the fattier dark meat and taste a bit misplaced on the light meat. The pork was fine. There was absolutely no gristle, dry, burnt or fatty bits in either meal we got. I do understand exactly what another reviewer mentioned, though: there is something about the smoke flavor in the pork that makes a perfectly cooked mouth full of moist BBQ taste a little dry. No joke! If we were talking wines, I'd say it was tannins, but I don't know enough about smoking to know what the flavor is derived from. Either way, it's unique. I'm sure that lots of people crave and adore it. Me, not so much. But again, to emphasize, the pork was perfectly BBQ'd, tender and flavorful; I suspect that I'm just not a fan of the wood mix that they're using. Not their fault: they're putting great BBQ out! The BBQ sauce was yummy - a bit more kick that what comes as standard at most BBQ places. I'm not sure what style BBQ I'd describe the sauce as, though, in terms of the big three - a little vinegar, a (very) little unidentified zing, a lot of flavor / spice mix, not much sweetness. IMHO, it's unique! And yummy. Service was friendly, task-oriented, and quick, but my visit was during off-hours, so I can't say what the place is like during high traffic periods. read more

We were visiting last week from New Jersey, and had dinner here. I am originally from Kansas City and a big barbecue fan. We had the sliced pork which I guess was like pulled pork. It was very good not fatty at all and cooked nicely. The sauce was good sweet and tangy. The coleslaw was very good and the potato salad was just OK, a little heavy on the mayonnaise. I have family from NC and SC and I have been to KY a few times and I have to say this BBQ is the real deal. Smokey flavor soft texture and served with sweet tea. It looks like they renovated recently and there's plenty of game on the walls and a new feel to everything. I would easily fly back just to get those beans though....those were really amazing. We recently got take out from Split Tree BBQ which included pulled pork, baked beans, and macaroni and cheese. The pulled pork had ABSOLUTLY NO FLAVOR, I made myself a sandwich and could only eat it b/c I smothered every bite in sauce (the mild and sweet sauces were good). I've had a lot of pulled pork sandwiches, but never one with absolutely no seasoning or flavor. The baked beans were also terrible, they had pieces of the flavorless BBQ in them but had no other flavor (besides pepper, literally tasted like eating chunks of saucy pepper). I added salt to the macaroni and cheese and it had a little flavor, but still terrible mac n cheese to me. We will not go there again. Maybe the people leaving good reviews ordered different things, but I really don't know how they're still in business if everything on their menu is this bland! Do yourself a favor, if you want BBQ in the BG area, go to Smokey Pig instead (not a paid advertisement or affiliated with Smokey Pig in any way, just know what good BBQ taste like!). read more

None of the females had hairnets which explains why I found a hair in my coleslaw. When I mention it to the lady at the register, she stated that none of the food was made there aside from the brisket. This shocked me!! I did not have the brisket so the meal I paid 9.00 for I could have bought at a store myself. My husband (who did have the brisket) said refills are free because of the dry brisket. We've eaten lots & lots of BBQ ribs in numerous states, and this is the worst we've ever had. The ribs are sold by the #, and 3/4# included 3 bones surrounded by way too much fat and gristle. My family and I stopped here for lunch on Father's Day. The place is a nice establishment, clean and well kept very family oriented. My husband and I ordered the rib dinner and the chicken dinner that we split between our 2 toddler girls. The ribs were bland, no seasoning and had a lot of gristle. Our girls chicken also was flavorless, almost seemed like it was boiled ( just from texture ) both meats were tolerable when a little sauce was added to them , but not by much. We had Coleslaw, baked beans and potato salad as our sides. None of which were awesome. The coleslaw was very tart and more vinegar tasting than anything. The baked beans tasted strongly of pineapple and the potatoes seemed a little undercooked to my liking but were the best of the 3 sides. The meals came with corn cakes which I thought were great! Ultimately, we were very disappointed with the food especially with paying $50 for the lackluster meal that not even our daughters would eat.
