While driving from Chicago to Florida, we went out of our way to stop at Big Man BBQ and it was definitely worth the trip. The place was immaculately clean. On a road trip we were needing a stop and my husband found this delightful out of the way barbeque joint. It is set away from the road in a non-descript grey building but hides some delicious food! There is ample parking and one main entrance. Once you enter you order at the counter which is right next to the entrance. The menu is on a sign behind the counter as well as printed for you to peruse. We ordered a veggie plate which comes with three ample sides. I have at admit that next time I might just get three of the hash brown casserole as it was so amazing I have no words! My husband wanted to try some and I have to admit I almost said get your own. The green beans were perfectly cooked and not over done or without flavor but just right. The vinegar coke slaw was tangy and quite nice as a pairing with the heavier casserole. But oh man, that hash brown casserole was so yummy and unctuous with a cheesy flavor and bits of browned potato goodness. Yum! My husband got a veggie plate as well with sweet potato casserole, vinegar slaw and the potato salad. It was all also good (as I did give him tastes of mine so I could taste his various sides too). The potato salad had more of a cream cheese flavor so it wasn't quite to my liking, but was indeed creamy with chunks of potatoes to bite into. Our traveling companion got a pulled chicken plate that came with two sides and and enough chicken for 4 sandwiches! She shared and I have to admit the smell almost made me want to try some chicken (vegan that I am I resisted). They have sauces on the table so you can douse and try the various ones to your hearts content. This was an amazing find and a delicious place to try some local flavor and amazingly satisfying food. Great BBQ, Great sized portions, Great service! I really like the food here. My only dislike is the liquid-thin hot and mild sauces. I just prefer a thicker sauce. The sweet sauce is thick and tastes great, but I try to avoid it because of the sugar. My favorite sides are the mayo slaw and green beens (well, I'm also a fan but of the hashbrown and sweet potato casseroles , but shy away due to the carbs). read more

This is hands down the best bbq in the whole region if you like Memphis style pulled pork or smoked shredded chicken breast with sides. I grew up near Memphis and this place's pulled pork is as good as basically anything I've had there and would fit right in if placed on Beale St. Mayo slaw, hash brown casserole; and sweet potato casserole are all excellent with huge portions. Beware of places in KY that serve pulled pork as a sloppy mess out of crockpot. This is not one of those places. Highly recommend. read more

We have ordered delicious foods from this restaurant over the years but not in the last 2.5-3 years until today. Not quite the same. Sweet Potatoes were a bit dry and lacked nuts, some cinnamon with sugar and marshmallows. Meats were tough to chew. Don't think it's worth the asking price $12.00 a plate unless it was as delicious as they were in the past. Disappointed. read more

Best BBQ I've ever had. Portions are huge. You'll def need a to go box. I have enough leftovers for at least one more meal. The service was super quick and HOT!! The sweet BBQ sauce was fabulous. Very good pork shoulder. It's sliced semi-thin. Perhaps 1/4 inch, Good smoky flavoring. I usually get mine without sauce because it doesn't really need sauce. Sides (beans and slaw) are quite good. Three large pieces plus the two sides for $10. You can't beat that. The service people are polite. I go by there about once a month. Will be back. Try it. You'll enjoy it. read more

My family and I stopped here while waiting for a Wal-Mart pickup order. I am a BBQ/Smoking fan and always like to try what locals consider to be a good place. The restaurant itself was tidy enough, and the employees were nice and courteous. The food was middle-of-the-road at best. It always confuses me when people do not cook their pulled pork to optimum tenderness and moistness level, but instead leave it dry and tough. Each pork shoulder is different, and requires a different cook time. It seems they just pull it, leave it in a warming tray, and heat it a bit for service. This leads to a very dry and tough pulled pork, when it is supposed to be the opposite. Additionally, pulled pork was not seasoned. I don't understand this in BBQ or smoking. Season the meat, with at least salt. This place seems to have no seasoning and is just relying on the bbq sauce at the table. Three BBQ sauces at the table were good. One was ketchup base sweet sauce and the other two were vinegar based with hot and mild. Nice to see a vinegar sauce in a place around here. Pulled chicken had some flavor, but still required salting and a bone was found (not a huge deal, but not great). No ribs or brisket on the menu is confusing for a bbq place. All in all it was a lackluster experience for an alright price. Just like a lot of places, it didn't have a lot of BAD stuff, just alright stuff that, with the right additions, could be much better. read more

While on a work trip and staying at the Main Street Bread and Breakfast, that will be another review with 5 stars I had dinner at Big Man BBQ. Very small dining area and parking lot as well but located conveniently in the downtown area. It is a walk up counter where you order from probably high school girls working the counter. They were very sweet as well as professional. I ordered the BBQ pork dinner that came with two sides. It was served hot and ready from a steam table. The portions were huge. I ate an equal amount from the same plate of food for my lunch the next day. The BBQ was pulled and tender and the sweet BBQ made it delicious. I also had Cole slaw that was as good am my mom's (hard to beat that) and the sweet potato casserole. I would say reasonably priced but more like cheap. Two meals in one dinner for less than $10. This place is great if you want some great food with more than filling portions (read: a lot of food!!!). We had them cater our wedding last October and the prices are very reasonable, even on just a regular dine-in experience. My favorite items on the menu are the pulled chicken and potato salad. The coleslaw is also pretty good. All in all I'd recommend Big Man over Rib Lickers because it's just as good if not better, and you get waaaay more food. read more

I was really unimpressed with everything. I had the shredded chicken sandwich. Not only was it bland, unseasoned, boiled chicken. I took a bite and pulled a 1.5 inch fish hook like bone out of my mouth. Good thing I didn't bite down hard. The end was so sharp it could have really caused damage. The bbq sauces on the table were watery and flavorless. Looked like they had been just filled back up with straight water. The rest of our group was also not very happy with their food. I did try to tell the two girls at the counter about the bone and they looked shocked. Then hid in the kitchen. They only came out when a new customer came in. Was a complete waste of money and time. I'm updating this with the last short paragraph being from today May 27, 2020. The first part of this is from a prior experience at this said restraunt Normally this place would be a 9 out of 10 stars in my opinion, however yesterday I ate there an got the usual 2 piece shoulder with hashbrown casserole an potato salad, the 2 sides was on point as usual, however the two pieces of shoulder were burnt, not crispy burnt but burnt none the less, I tried to eat one piece an I couldn't it was like trying to eat the end of the table, so I gave up and tried the other piece with the same result, so I threw away pretty much a piece an a half of burnt shoulder (freddy Kruger's left hand burnt) I was really disappointed this past weekend I was in New Jersey an was telling a guy at a bbq restaurant there how good this little bbq place was in my hometown, then two days later I go to said restaurant in my hometown and wanted to cry from disappointment after trying to eat bad shoulder! I honestly do not know what I might of done to the girls working for them to give me shoulder than I wouldnt feed to my neighbors dog that keeps me up two nights a week. Again the sides was amazing but trying to eat the shoulder left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not saying I won't eat here again because I normally ate there twice a week, but it'll be a while before I come back. I had nightmares about that rachid shoulder last night. If the sides weren't so amazing I would of taken the shoulder they gave me to the health department and filed a complaint. I left a bad review a while back on this restraunt, not because I had to nor because I wanted to, restraunts will survive if they're good regardless of one person's opinion or bad experience, I also was expressing my freedom of opinion, after I left the above review on this restraunts fb page I still went to the restraunt not as much as I had normally went but still wanted to have the great food i once had there, but ever since that review the food wasn't as good as it was before my one bad experience, and today I went May 27th 2020 and ordered a cheeseburger plate in the drive thru (inside still closed like alot of restraunts, go away Corona) I drove the 6 miles home set down at my kitchen table to enjoy a great lunch and this hamburger i got was hard as a brick, well not entirely a brick because I was still able to take bites out of it, but it was the hardest hamburger I have ever had the misfortune of trying to eat, I couldn't finish eating it, what I was able to consume didn't have a taste and this damn hard hamburger broke my spirit of enjoying a great restraunt, I guess I might of deserved them trying to poison me by leaving a bad review, but I did give them a chance after a bad experience but this isn't a conspiracy theory, I honestly think they gave me a shitty burger on purpose for spite. I will never be back to this establishment again. I'm halfway considering digging the hamburger out of the trash and sending it to the FBI to see if they tried to poison me. read more

Bbq is the best in town. Large portions and great food. Every once in a while they cook brisket and it is the best I've ever had. When they don't have enough brisket I get the Pig Pie. It's cornbread, baked beans and pulled pork all piled together. I also have them put mayo slaw on top. I can usually eat 3 meals just from the one plate. It is awesome! read more
