It smelled great and the food we seen delivered to other tables also looked great. We got a sample platter with ribs and brisket. The ribs were over cooked and chewy and the brisket was a lot of fat. The sides were just ok. Maybe it was just an off day for them because I see a lot of great reviews. We stopped in later in the evening so that may be the reason the meats were off. First, I love a great BBQ joint that also offers tasty sides, which is hard to come by back home in NKy. My son and I both wanted to try the brisket so he got the platter and I chose the sandwich. I was told they make most of the sides that aren't fried options such as tater tots, which I was happy about. They had the classic barbecue sauce on the table as well as a spicy option. Both were equally delicious. My sandwich came on Texas toast, which is a fave. The portions were a great value as they do not skimp! The fried potatoes are made in house and they were delicious. Even though they don't make the onion rings in house they were also quite good. My one disappointment was, they don't make the majority of their desserts. And the menu states that their daughter-in-law Kayle makes different desserts daily and they didn't have that. They were actually out of several desserts, which was disappointing. Since the only ones they had were not ones made in house I chose to not get one. Since we live 3 1/2 hours away I guess I'll have to give it another shot for the dessert option next time around. We got some takeout from Bucky Bee's BBQ for a weekday dinner after a visit to Mammoth Cave. We only ordered the BBQ Sampler for ~$20 and it was enough for both of us + leftovers. They give a lot of food for the money! It came with the following: Grilled Pork Shoulder - Nice smokiness but dry. The amazing vinegar sauce and spice mix they use really elevates this dish to a good state. Pulled Pork - They didnt give much of this, only a small amount in a small potato bun slider. Meat was once again dry, but I didn't mind too much. Very smoky, great sweet spice blend. Probably my favorite of the bunch. I haven't had pulled pork with this flavor profile before. Brisket - They gave a good amount of chopped brisket. Less smoky compared to the other meats but also less dry. Again another sweet and savory mop. Smoked Ribs - 5 fingers, dry dry dry to the point of being crunchy in large areas, but somehow no burnt acrid taste. Slathered in a sweet and savory tomato bbq sauce. The only meat where how dry the meat was could not be fixed by the sauce and spices. My least favorite of the bunch. Side of Pinto Beans - A good side, perfectly cooked pinto beans in a heavy ham flavored liquid with small chunks of ham. Side of Cabbage - Extremely smoky, obvious cabbage flavor, some small pieces of bacon. Good flavor profile - probably the same spices are used in this as most of the bbq. Corn bread - This is a griddled corn cake, good corn meal flavor, nicely griddled. Not much else to say. I guess it's a Kentucky specialty to have corn cakes instead of normal sliced corn bread. I think the common denominator is that the meat is dry but the smokiness, spice blend and bbq sauce/mop makes up for it. I wonder if that's just a thing in Kentucky because we had similarly dry bbq at another place previously. Still, I'd say the food here is good enough for a look. read more

From the outside you can tell this is a small town restaurant with a passion for food. The glass windows appear to be graffitied in the entire restaurant but when you get in it's messages & names travelers and guests have added over the years. I really wanted to love this place after getting some local recommendations. Our server was patient and friendly answering all our questions. My wife had the Pulled Pork Nachos that she loved. I had their half rack of Baby Back Ribs that comes with a round pancake-sized serving of cornbread and 2 sides. I opted for the salad bar in exchange for the 2 sides. The salad bar was bountiful with ingredients that were fresh and cold, which I really appreciate. However, the ribs were disappointing. I couldn't sense much of any smoke on the ribs, but they were fall-off-the-bone tender, but way under-seasoned. It tasted like the ribs were oven baked rather than smoked on a grill. There was no bark or crispness! A sweet bbq sauce and a spicy sauce are on the table. I opted for their spicy sauce that added some mild heat to the otherwise underwhelming ribs. A basic salt rub would have brought out the much needed flavor. The portion was generous for a half rack of ribs - I counted at least 8 ribs plus a couple of ends. We ordered the Buckimhham's Mammoth Platter which came with 6 types of meat amd 4 sides. It was enough to fill 2 full grown men or a man amf a woman with extra to take home. For our sides we got the hash browns casserole, baked beans, smoked cabbage, and onion rings. Each was really good. The cabbage came with bits of bacon, the onion rings were nice and crispy, the casserole had cheese (enough said), and the baked beans were sweet with chunks of meat. We ordered the chocolate cream pie which was a whole quarter of the pie. We could only eat a few bites until we were full. While it's not the best tasting BBQ I have had, it if very solid food and at a great price. The only thing I didn't love was the cornbread. From the front it doesn't look like much but as soon as you walk in it's like entering your Grand Mamas house; cozy and warm. We were seated at a booth and promptly greeted by the sweetest server I think I've ever had at a restaurant. After our visit to Mammoth Cave our trip home took us through Cave City and Bucky Bee's BBQ is located there. It's a family owned business with many of the family members taking care of its customers. We had no problem getting a table as soon as we walked in. We started with mozzarella sticks and they were a good choice for an appetizer. My youngest son got the Queenie Burger with fries. It looked great and he gave it a thumbs up. My husband got the pork chops with green beans and beets. A healthier option and comfort food. My teen and I decided to share our meals - the BLT with fries, which came with thick, flavorful bacon and the pulled pork platter. The pork was great and you get a lot. It paired fantastic with the sweet BBQ. The sides were okay - the hashbrown casserole was a bit mushy and overly cheesy. The coleslaw likely came from a grocery store, nothing special. I didn't finish either side. We did enjoy the skillet cornbread, which comes out like a pancake. Desserts are available to go and include slices of cake or pie. They also offer ice cream. I'm glad that we came here instead of a chain restaurant or fast food. Definitely pricier if you're needing to budget the day's meal but I appreciated the experience as part of our road trip.
