I've been eating their fish soup since before I could even remember over 20+ years thanks to my mom always bringing home soup from here! Absolutely delicious very light well seasoned freshly made freshly caught fish! I've started bringing my own family here as well and my husband takes the long drive and picks up soups from here when we get cravings for a tasty hot fish soup. Highly recommend this spot! I don't venture into North Newark unless it's for the few select food spots I grew up on that I have yet to find better else where.

Good flavors, but a few misses!!!…read more Hook & Reel has some solid Cajun seafood flavors, especially if you enjoy bold seasoning and messy, hands-on meals. The seafood boil was enjoyable overall, and the portions were decent for the price. That said, the experience felt a bit inconsistent. Some items were well-cooked, while others were slightly overdone, and the seasoning wasn't evenly distributed. Service was friendly but a little slow during our visit, and the dining area could have been cleaner. Overall, it's an okay spot if you're craving Cajun-style seafood, but there's room for improvement to make it a more reliable choice.

Yes, it's hot outside, but when kids are in the restaurant you still have to be considerate because they can easily get sick from it being too cold. Our server, Samantha E, acted like we were bothering her the entire time. Her attitude was off from the start, and anytime we brought up an issue she made it seem like we were the problem for speaking up. One thing that really bothered me was when our food had to be sent back. In any restaurant, if something is wrong and gets remade, customers should receive the full order back. Instead, she told us, "Well since you already took two to try, you only get four wings." That was completely unprofessional. On top of that, Samantha E kept turning around making remarks to her coworkers -- a dark skin girl with glasses and a Spanish girl with curly hair -- and they kept staring over at us while we were explaining our issue. We were not complaining just to complain; we had valid reasons. Overall, the experience made me wish I had just gone to get tacos like I originally planned. Samantha E seriously needs retraining on customer service and professionalism. and the seafood boils had no sauce we had to ask for extra sauce. They made sure we did not get charged but now since we left or since we paid. and in the picture above where you see the computer, they were standing right there, but since we paid they moved.

We used the valet service, and upon walking inside, I noticed an older gentleman playing the piano in the foyer, which gave the place a really nice atmosphere. Even though the restaurant was busy, our wait was only about 5-10 minutes. While waiting, I couldn't help but notice how large the restaurant is. There are two bars and several separate dining areas that looked perfect for larger parties and special occasions. Once seated, we were served fresh bread while looking over the menu. I ordered the 32-ounce prime rib with A1 sauce, red peppers, and roasted potatoes. I also had the chance to try some of the sea bass. Both dishes were excellent. The prime rib was tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly, while the sea bass was fresh and well-prepared. A special shoutout to our waiter, Milan, who was attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was taken care of throughout our meal. Overall, it was a fantastic brunch experience, and I will absolutely be back in the near future.

Our group ordered the Seafood Paella and had plenty for leftovers, stuffed sole, branzino, grilled octopus, salad and numerous drinks including their sangria. The Paella was full of flavor and a very large portion, two people ordered one to share and even sharing it with the other three in the group there was a ton left. The stuffed Sole was well sized and filled properly with shrimp, scallops and more. Highly recommend and it was cooked perfectly. The mash potatoes were a miss that came with it not seasoned and bland. The branzino was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. The grilled octopus was a little chewy which was disappointing but it was packed with flavor and would try again. If you're in Newark and want an amazing meal, highly recommend this place just note it's not cheap but it's worth every penny.

The restaurant is a beautiful corner spot with wonderful lighting and a warm, inviting ambiance. Since it was our first time trying Georgian cuisine, we decided to share a variety of appetizers. Of course, we had to try the famous Adjaruli Khachapuri, and it was every bit as decadent as people say! The service was very attentive. If you're a party of six skinny people, you'll do just fine in the chairs. If you're fat Americans like us, it's going to be a tight squeeze. They do a really smart thing. The window seats are pushed a bit away from the windows, so that when the waiter comes to take your order, they don't block the middle aisle where people are trying to walk or carry stuff to tables. Brilliant idea, and one which I wish more would do. The chairs are those mid century modern rattan backed chrome bottomed office chair looking guys. They're comfortable enough, even for us fats, but the rattan was starting to wear out. Hopefully, they'll see to getting them serviced, because it makes the place look a bit ragged. The tables were a lovely size, with plenty of space for our drinks, our food, and the beautiful bespoke charger plates they had on the table with Sihana branding on it. They kept the TVs and other built in furniture from the old Kinjo that used to be here. When we went, the stuff on the TVs was pretty generic. This is fine. Not a lot of places know what to do with those TVs. Back when the location used to be KInjo, they played either K-dramas, Anime, or other such themed shows on there with subtitles, so that it keeps the place on theme. This is NOT an allergy friendly place. If you're vegan, you're going to get either the cocktails, or a dry salad. Also, there's cocktails that have honey, so watch out for that as well. The falafel sandwich, which should be vegan anywhere else you get it, has egg in it. Not ON it, but IN it. The fries are all cooked in shared oil. How shared is the oil? One of our table mates got a mild allergic reaction (she has a shellfish allergy), and had to grab a Benadryl when she got home. It wasn't bad enough for her eyes to close up and have to go to the hospital, but her face was getting flushed, and she started getting really itchy. I'm sure the food was fine. I've been with this group dining out several times. If they're seriously enjoying themselves, they'll usually be raving about what's on their plate, and let the waiter know how good it all was. That didn't happen here. Everyone LOVED the appetisers. That cheesy bread situation was a huge hit. The cocktails are strong, and beautifully made. Well balanced with the right blend of sweetness, tartness, and slight burn of alcohol. Absolutely no complaints there. When the bill came, there's a credit card processing fee. I'd say the place is good. Here's why they're getting full marks: The waiter let us know IMMEDIATELY that there will be nothing for me to eat. He didn't have to go to the kitchen to ask what was safe. He knew immediately that there's nothing at all on the menu that's safe for me. That level of knowledge tells me that you've got a waiter who takes pride in knowing his job, and does it to the best of his ability. You've got an absolute gem of a wait staff in general. I wasn't bothered, because I live very close by and can eat at home. Just know that I'll never set foot in there again. I'm not sure that anyone else would be too eager to go back either. I've been to steak houses that had more option.

Perfectly cooked pasta. "Everything is homemade," Angelo explained later. Smart and fairly well-priced wine list. Marisqueira is a Portuguese term that translates to a seafood restaurant or shellfish bar, and this place certainly lives up to its name. We were a party of eight and ordered a ton of food and drinks. My in-laws both ordered mariscada-type dishes. One had lobster, which they loved. One had different types of fish and shellfish; the majority of shellfish didn't open properly (barely a crack), and the fish had an odd taste. The server said it was skate and it had a "special" taste. Anyway, my in-laws didn't care for the whole dish, and it cost about $50. They've lived in the Ironbound 60ish years and know good mariscada from bad. Bacalhau, salmon, steak, octopus, and cockles all were delicious. Then we ordered dessert - one of which was espresso crème brûlée. When we asked the server why it didn't have the traditional burnt sugar top, he said they don't do it that way. (Then don't call it crème brûlée! Call it pudding or something else.) Such attitude. And beware - they add the tip *after* adding in NJ sales tax. We can get good food at many other Newark restaurants. Even though most of the food was great, we left with a bad taste in our mouths (pun intended) and probably won't return.
