They are a little slow on Sundays... We were in the area, and wifie was looking for a salad, so we stopped in to get her a salad. The decor is nice - which is typical for any greek restaurant. The waitress was super nice and friendly. I got the Gyro with cole slaw, which was good - wasn't great, but the Gyro was ok - the cole slaw was really good. Wifie lived her Gyro salad with chicken. Best place for Liver & Onions! Went on a Saturday so there were no mashed potatoes or veggies, but I was very content with the potato soup. I'm struggling to write a truly honest review, because I patronize Spiros enough to know faces and names and have come to know the owner from going there. I want to be fair to them, but also to the readers, so I will try to be honest and objective. The restaurant moved into this building about 6 years ago from a location off Traebue Road, bringing many of their regular customers with them. There are a lot of odd things about the place: it's general location off busy route 33; its mixed breakfast/ lunch/ dinner Greek- American menu; and its "non-ambiance". I never really warmed up to the "antiseptic" atmosphere, but I have always enjoyed my experiences here for some reason, probably because of the people we were with and also, because the food is pretty good. The big screen TVs are new and the staff has always been accommodating. So far, nothing extraordinary to speak of. The menu consists of traditional Greek dishes mixed in with some American bar food. The owner's Greek husband is the chef, so the Greek specialties - espeically the Pastitsia and gyros- are my recommendations. The atmosphere is a lot cleaner than it used to be when it was Riverside Cafe, but I almost prefer the old, gritty pool hall with the ancient jukebox. There was, at least, some character. The patio is enough to gets you outdoors- if you don't mind the smell of exhaust and noise from the traffic along route 33, but we still sit outside for some reason! I must admit, I am strangely endeared to Saturday nights here, which bring about a rowdy karaoke night to which people of all ages flock. The Karaoke master is a 50-something year-old man who wears garish Hawaiian shirts, but has a tremendous voice. He does most of the legitimate singing and has been spinning tunes at Spiros for a very long time. It's just weird and fun. I guess it's hard to sum this place up. Some people like it. Some don't. I have to be in the mood for Greek food to come here, but when I do, I have usually had fun and enjoy my meal. read more

Literally best Greek salad dressing and very good Greek salad with grilled chicken...if you can get past the grouchy owner (I'm guessing she is the owner because she is always sitting in there) dropping the f-bomb or GD. Not classy. And I think it literally hurts her to smile. Place seems dirty to me, but lucky for them you can't get that dressing anywhere else so we try to make it here 1-2 times a year. This place is... weird. I've never eaten anywhere with such a complete and utter absence of atmosphere/ambience. We sat in the dining room, and were the youngest people there by about twenty years. It was pretty busy for 6.30 on a Friday but there were absolutely no young people/families at all, just a roomful of Seniors quietly muttering into their food, and shuffling around. There were no tvs, just a terrible 80s soundtrack featuring, among others, Elton John, the Beach Boys, Crowded House, The Bangles etc. This was punctuated by the loud and obtrusive "DING DING DING!!" of the bell in the kitchen when orders were ready. I can't really explain it, but it was all so so strange. And the decor was beyond boring. Anyway, the food. They serve really nice pita bread but there are no complementary dips/spreads. My Greek salad was big, fresh and filling, and the dressing was nicely tart and tangy. His chicken lemon soup was decent - nice big chunks of dark and white meat, subtle lemony flavor, but the orzo thingies were really mushy. The entrees were disappointing. The meat in my gyro was bland and not authentically Greek in any way. The fries were from a bag. The coleslaw was so thin and watery it was like it had been pureed. He ordered the Greek Style Grouper with a side of green beans. The fish was decent but VERY greasy, and for $17 it should have been plated much more attractively. It was seriously below average. And to add insult to injury, it was $35 after tip and tax!! Imo, save your moneys, and go to the Big Fat Greek down the road. read more

First timer here! I heard rumors that the aged frequent, but also that the food is a cozy mix of Greek and American home-cooking. Both were proven to be true. Fortunately though, the restaurant is split in two: a cafeteria-like side and the florescent lit bar/restaurant side. The later is where my friend an I choose to sit...obviously. Spiro's is interesting. There are a handful of tv's broadcasting the popular sporting event of the night, but there was no music. I'm grateful that my conversation was pretty in depth. I would not recommend Spiro's for a first date. Kate was our server on Thursday night. She's actually a friend of mine, but I'm not going to complement her for that reason. But she is very attentive and detailed with her specials and menu descriptions. Good at recommendations too! I've read the the hummus is the best in the city, sorry, but I disagree. It was good, yes, but not the best. It's a roasted red pepper hummus, which makes it unique to other Greek restaurants, but I will always rank Jimmy's V's #1 in my book. read more

Tried to order online and I get there for them to tell me they don't do online orders and don't have my items, therefore I just lost that money. I had 3 people yelling at my across the restaurant about how they don't have online services. It was so uncomfortable. I'll dispute it with my bank but the customer service was so fucking terrible. Maybe fix your website to not let you order online and solve the problem. We also mentioned that we tried calling them to order that way, in which there phone line was not working at all and they said "yeah because were so busy", while they had 3 customers in the restaurant what a joke of a business. The owner is soooo rude! We ordered salads and thought it was their website and upon going to restaurant we were told very abruptly that we could not of ordered on line. They only take phone orders we were told. She and 2 other employees were so mean to my daughter and i who just spent $25.00 on salad and left with nothing. Delicious!! My husband and o ordered carryout for lunch. Salad produce was fresh, tomatoes were juicy and dressing was so good. Hubby has a sandwich with turkey and bacon. Good quality meat and bread. French fires are cooked to perfection. Also be sure to grab a slice of baklava. read more

We have been going to Spiros for years in 2 locations. A couple who are regulars were treated rudely a month or two ago. The server put her hands on our customer and told them they needed to move on. At a time when social distancing is the norm, touching customers is an absolute no-no. And restaurants should be thankful customers were even willing to come out to eat - where're their manners? We know this couple was not causing any trouble, and if people were waiting in line they would have noticed it. They haven't been back for months - and we haven't either. Cleanliness can be an issue there, too. read more

This location was not very accommodating with our order my husband and daughter like to mix the street tacos instead eating the same of all 3. If you're still eating there any later than 8:30 the female owner will stare down your table with a sour expression and arms crossed or send out the servers with the sweepers. She's beyond rude except maybe to bar regulars. Servers are sweet food mediocre. Table last Fri was served one by one. The last was served as the others were finishing. Server was apologetic but naturally the patron refused the food. So owner told entire table not to come back. She was rude and loud and we even heard her complaining to other patrons! I have been coming in since 1999 when they were on the corner of Trabue and McKinley. Saw it written up in the Dispatch, and it was on the way to work. I figured, "I have been going past here for a couple years, why not stop in?" That first stop set the pace, and it became a New Year's tradition. Good years, i managed to make it in before the end of Jan. bad years, they had either moved and I lost them, (both the year they moved over to 33 near Zollinger, and when they moved to the new location on 5th and McKinley), or just had too much going on. The food is good. It's basic, but good. (usually go with the Philly Cheesesteak burger, a beer or two, and some rice pudding). It's cheaper than the chain joints like red robin, or 5 guys, and the staff is good. Time to head back to carry on the tradition. read more

I've visited spiros periodically throughout the years. I believe this is their third location. Current location is in a strip mall flanked by a carry out and a bar. Food is ok but the place has really gone downhill. Greek salad with chicken is probably the only decent thing on the menu. Gyro is mediocre at best. My biggest problem with this place is the the owners wife. ( think Ursula from the little mermaid with a mouth that would make a sailor blush! ) She has to be the rudest person I have ever met. If you read the Other reviews you will clearly see that there is a pattern. I don't know if she is bitter that her business is now operating from a strip mall or if there are just some real mental problems developing but it seems to have gotten worse. If the pattern continues their next location will be a food truck but I wouldn't want to give food trucks a bad name! read more

I actually like this bar. The crowd isn't typical for my age bracket but I appreciate this location as a nice break from the i-can-see-your-lips-moving-but-can't-hear-what-you're-saying type of bar. You can ACTUALLY carry on a nice conversation here!! The crowd is a mix of the who's who of Upper Arlington and of people who just stumbled upon it. The patrons are always friendly and up for a chat, the staff is well trained and pleasant. A nice place if you want to catch up with an old friend or if your parents are in town and you want to take them to a nice, classy(ish) meal without having to pull out your 401K. As a bonus, they have karaoke on Saturday nights and while still obnoxious as every karaoke night should be, it is much, much more toned down than say the karaoke night at Mickey's on Fifth. read more

A friend and I went to breakfast. A few people were there when we got there. Not a big deal, a little hole in the wall. Food was ok. We were done eating and just finishing up coffee and the owner came over and asked us to leave...due to social distancing and she needed the table. Mind you we WERE NOT finished. I might add that there was not one person waiting on a table. There is a bar in the restaurant that was full. No 6 ft distance there. I did express to her that we paid for our time. Just ate at Spiros for lunch today... What a treat! The atmosphere is excellent and the food is superb. I had the chicken gyro and it was superb. Not only that, but there was rice pudding for desert. Simple food, prepared quickly, and served by friendly staff. Very reasonable prices. read more

I love their Greek Salad with chicken, it is very filling and the dressing is great. On Wednesdays they have their homemade lemon chicken soup which is delicious! For breakfast, you can't go wrong with the greek omelette. My only complaint is that they don't serve omelettes at lunch. read more

I could not tell You about the food. We showed up at 5 minutes after 7. Their sign said They closed at 7:30, but the doors were locked. A foreign woman also yelled behind the door informing Me that they had closed. I was smart enough to tell that by the locked door. Too bad She is not smart enough to read a clock, or run a business. Just came from breakfast at Spiros. Have been coming to the restaurant for years. Have followed them through all of there different locations. When we arrived there was one person in dining room and four people in the bar area. I'm sure they were regulars. We waited over five minutes for coffee. The serve finally got around to taking our order after her extended conversation with the regulars sitting at the bar. The omlete was very good as usual and the french toast too. Asked server to bring more coffee, it never came. We finished our breakfast having just one cup of coffee. The check never came, my husband went to register to pay, I got up and got my own to go box. When we left there where three people in dining room and still the four at the bar. Serve was just terrible and we love the place because food is good, but we won't be back. No reason to go to breakfast and get indigestion because of crappy service. No reason to call and complain, because owner wife is very unpleasant. Lost a customer for ever. Betty read more

Omg, this place is amazing! Their salad dressings are home made the right way and they food is by far one of the best! I've had the soup of the day on Wednesday (chicken lime) it was absolutely delicious! Also on Thursday their special is Chicken noddle and wow... I am absolutely satisfied with the portions and great tasting food I got! Service is super fast there too! Both times I was there I was in and out within minutes! The staff is very friendly and always willing to answer any questions! By far one of my favorite places! This place is just so gross. Came for a work lunch and have never been so repulsed by a tuna salad sandwich. Way too sweet and sloppy. Their side salad is a joke - iceberg lettuce and a couple pieces of onion and a tomato. Mind you it was line $4. I barely touched it. Everyone else liked their gyros but my gyro eating days are over. Came back for brunch months later (not my suggestion tried to change to another place) had some eggs, bacon, and juice. $2 for the tiniest glass of juice. Just overpriced for such basics and nothing remotely creative on their menu. Their omelettes are massive thought and come with a ton of sides. Their bar is really pathetic. Boring atmosphere, polite wait staff, and average-at-best food combine to make a forgettable dining experience. I had the Greek burger which consisted of a large beef patty with olives, lettuce, tomatoes, and feta cheese (tzatziki sauce on the side at my request.) Had I not added the sauce I would have been very disappointed instead of only slightly disappointed. The hamburger had very little flavor. My co-worker had the roast beef and mashed potatoes slathered in gravy. He said it was good, but I think he was just being polite since we were there on someone else's dime. read more

DO NOT waste your time, money or health eating here. Today I had the 'homemade' meatloaf special. I cook a lot...and I could not achieve the rubbery consistency of this meatloaf if I tried. I should have known when the two 1/4 inch thick slices came covered by gravy. I have had TV Dinner meatloaf better than this. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. If this WAS homemade.....wow that's saying something. Nice hometown diner kind of place with a bar on one side and restaurant on the other. Very friendly staff, excellent service. I had a very nice large Greek salad with Gyro meat on top, and my spouse had a burger. Both were excellent. Note that the burgers are 1/3 pound after cooking, so don't order one if you're not hungry and/or prepared to take home leftovers. Fries served with the burger were also very nicely done. Located off the beaten path in a strip mall on the corner of W 5th and McKinley, but very convenient to several apartment/condo complexes in the area and the OSBA offices. read more

Before taking my wife for dinner I checked the Spiros reviews. One review which I thought was unnecessarily negative, centered around one of the owner's personality and attitude, but it turned out to be exactly the case. We saw and ordered a Greek wine on the menu and were told they don't have it anymore, so we opted for water and lemon. This rude old grump, owner I guess, then sat her butt down on top of a nearby table, made a very weird face and barked "Maybe we should rename this place Lemon and Water". Sounded cynically humorous at first but when she kicked it up a notch and added "I'm not going to make any money with that!", then there was no misunderstanding. A pleasant and apologizing waitress swiftly inserted herself to take our order. Not what were were out for this night. ******* So be advised *******. As for the food, I've had breakfast there before with Greek friends, and it was very good. The male owner was very congenial. This was why we were trying it for dinner. My wife's fish was good, both our salads were tasty, but my Gyro was terrible ... of all the things to be bad. Go figure. Should have stayed with ordering their Ruben. Feel bad for all that is good about that place. After all it is a business and needs customers which is hard to do when you are locking your doors 2 hours early sending 3 couples away and aggravating customers. Insane. We left paying $40 with 20+% sympathetic tip. On our way out Ms. Grumpy was seated at the bar and gave us a saccharin Goodbye. Seriously she needs help.
