The little boy behind the counter rung me up before taking my ID as a normal procedure, but then, decided that my New York license was fake even though I am IN FACT a citizen of New York and above the age of 21. After the small altercation I basically had to beg for my Government I'd back because he was going to throw it out for it being "fake"... the management should really train and teach their staff about how to run a successful and customer friendly establishment. I know spirits unlimited is a rather big liquor store chain , and I would not normally use yelp to review a store but I thought I would recognize the location on Fischer . I give the staff credit for being able to move a busy line rather fast . They have a few employees who are very knowledgeable about wine . Also if my kid is in tow they always have lollipops which is sweet. In general it's usually a decent experience . The only occasional annoyance is when the staff sort of loiter in the back left corner of the store by the beer and soda . It seems like a downtime tradition they have to pass the time, which I can understand . It can just be awkward to walk through a crew of 7 red t shirts standing in circle in conversation just to grab club soda . I'm going to start a list titled "The Cattle Prod Reviews"; these will be the places I check-in to, but don't feel any special desire to write about, yet am constantly being hounded to by the site. Second on this list then will be Spirits Unlimited on Fischer Boulevard. Can I just make in arrow in the direction of the only other posted review and write "What she said?" Actually, I don't know anything about E-Z liquors, which apparently is near the Parkway, meaning it's a solid five miles away. Yes, this Spirits is more expensive than some other liquor stores, but it sure as hell isn't expensive enough to drive eight additional roundtrip miles just to save a few bucks. Especially in the summer. No, scratch that, never. My vehicle gets about eight miles to the gallon on the highway, and twenty-five to forty-five minutes of my time is worth a hell of a lot more than a gallon of gas and $1.85 off a bottle of vodka. I find this location has a very good selection of everything, especially wines throughout the full range of prices. I don't really care if the people who work in a liquor store are knowledgeable about them or anything else, because I have never asked one a question other than "Can I have a pack of Marlboro?" or "What time do you open on Thanksgiving?" I can usually figure out the rest. The store is very clean, has lots of parking, as is staffed by a bunch of kids who chatter endlessly about their personal lives, which can be amusing or annoying depending on your mood that day. read more

Seriously.. the first bit of advice I can give you before I even start this review is to go to E-Z Liquors which is right off the parkway. They have WAY lower prices. Now you'll understand why this place is not gonna get a better review from me! The prices are usually at least a dollar to several dollars higher than E-Z. I have no idea why the prices are so different. E-Z also has a very knowledgable staff and really has some great wines. Try and ask someone in Spirits about their wine recommendations. Not really one to to get on Yelp and write reviews but after my experience at this Spirits I just had too! When I walked in, I was overwhelmed by the variety of alcohol neatly organized around the store. At first I couldn't find my usual pack of Kona seltzer's (highly recommend) but one of their lovely employees Ben came to my assistance and directed me precisely and accurately to the location. Came in a few weeks ago to get a bunch of shot bottles for a birthday gift I was making. The entire staff of 6 people were all right in front of me behind the counter and ignored me. Finally the older lady came and stood directly in front of me like she was going to help me... she completely ignored what I was saying. I repeated myself 3 times with her giving me a blank stare and not responding at all. I finally said forget it and was leaving when she finally spoke for the first time and told the younger guy who was nowhere near me and getting ready to do something else that she thought he was going to help me. I just walked out and went to the other Spirits on 37. I would have gotten the bottles myself but of course they were all behind the counter with the row of uncaring gossiping staff. If I could give zero Stars I would this is an overpriced place to buy liquor. For example Ketel One vodka costs $9 more for 1.75 L then Buy Rite Liquors just a mile away. The same holds true for wine and beer. Bottom line don't hurt your bottom line by shopping here. read more

After browsing their rather mediocre selection until I finally found something to drink, I was refused service for having my younger (by a decade) brother with me, as I'm baby-sitting for the weekend, and we were grabbing food after. Now I understand there are legal restrictions Spirits has to deal with, but this is ridiculous. If I was for some reason planning on Getting crunk with a 12 year old off a 6-pack of Otter Creek, I'd think that I would have the foresight not bring him in to the store, but sneakily left him in the car, or better yet at home. Any other liqour store I've ever been in has been fine with minors accompanying legal ID-carrying adults as long as they don't touch, carry or look at the merchandise, but apparently Spirits has a soft-spot for harassing honest, law-abiding customers. On top of this, store employees were rude about the whole scenario. From now on I'll stick with shopping somewhere that doesn't act like its a privilege to be able to give them money. read more
