Came to seaside with friends for a weekend getaway, such rude service and said our NY ID's were fake and denied us. Started claiming they wouldn't give us our ID's back until we started saying call the police because we aren't leaving with out them. Started bending and tearing apart our ID's. GO TO EZ LIQUOR DOWN THE ROAD NOT THIS PLACE! We decided to go to this liquor store because it was close by and we were about to buy $200 worth of liquor for the Fourth of July weekend. At the register, two of my friends gave their ID's and the girl behind the counter started to BEND OUR IDS and tried to peel our ID's apart. Used to be a great local store, but then they expanded and hired some very rude nasty people. Especially the little brunette girl, who may be a manager. She told me they didn't have products they blatantly had sitting out, then continued to cross out signs in front of myself and my friend so we couldn't buy what we were looking for. Other local people I have spoken to have had issues with this employee as well. Used to love this place. Years ago, before the remodel, they had amazing beer selection. Now the selection is meh. My biggest gripe as of a few minutes ago? I walk in and see one associate pulling her mask as as she notices I'm walking in, and another associate walking around with no mask. If I could give this place zero stars or even negative stars I would. To keep it short: they're overpriced, have the rudest staff, and ridiculous rules. Save your money and patience and drive the few extra miles to Spirits where you will be respected like an adult. BTW- if you are 3 adult women buying ONE bottle of wine, everyone must show an ID. ADMIST A DEADLY PANDEMIC, AND AMERICAN UNREST: The VERY LEAST you can do is be KIND; however, Monaghan's Liquor Store CAN'T even do that. AVOID THIS TIME WASTING, RUDE ESTABLISHMENT AT ALL COSTS! You're better off driving to a different store and saving your time AND money! Myself and 5 of my LATE-TWENTY year old friends spent 15 minutes perusing the aisles and picking out items. We get to the counter and the rude cashier asks to see EVERYONE'S ID. Now my friends and I are NOT "young" looking by any means. Instead of giving the benefit of the doubt that ONE of our group of 25 to 27 year olds was also of legal age, the cashier insisted our friend FIND his ID or we wouldn't be served. My friend had his shirt open with a chest full of hair and a full beard...no one in their right mind would assume that he was not of age. Anyways, my friend couldn't find his ID after searching the car. The cashier had a smug, satisfied,ARROGANT look on his face while denying us. Him and my friend got into an argument about discretion and racism and it was just an ugly damper to my otherwise beautiful beach day. Humans can be NASTY and ARROGANT when they feel that they are in positions of power. I walked into this store with my clearly underaged daughter, not realizing all in our party need to be 21 for us to purchase alcohol as this isn't a policy at the stores where we live. There were signs clearly stating this on the door, which I missed. While in the store, we were assisted by FOUR different store employees. Not one of them told us that we all needed to be 21 to purchase alcohol. It was not until we spent about 15 minutes in the store and went to the register when my daughter was asked for her ID. The woman who asked for the ID, (who was one of the people who helped me), was incredibly rude. It almost seemed as if we were set up for a confrontation . At least one of the four employees that helped me could have told me I can't shop with a minor before I got to check out. I understand and respect the store policy, but, the staff was extremely rude about it. read more

This place sadly is a total disaster. The parking lot alone is enough to just go somewhere else. You risk an accident each time you pull in or pull out. Items are Over priced and usually not a great selection. Staff is rude and unprofessional with an exception or two. Despite this I would stop here regularly because of the convenient location. However after my last encounter which I felt I was discriminated against because I have a Latino grown child Who accompanied me which normally I visit this establishment with my white husband. I was carded for the first time and my ID looked at for 5 minutes as if it was fake. ..... again after spending money in here REGULARLY. It is 2019, there is no tolerance for racial discrimination. This place is a joke. If I could have left 0 stars I would. I went with two other friends and they were purchasing one bottle of wine, a very over priced bottle, and I left my purse in the car. When we got to the counter they wanted all of our ID's (we are well above the legal age) they would not serve her until we all showed, and I said ok I'll go to the car and get mine. They proceeded to give my friends a hard time because there was an apparent sign on the front door about all parties needing to have ID to walk into store. The cashier had no patience for the fact we "ignored" their sign and began giving my friends an attitude to when her manager came over and declined serving my friends. Ok fine. Not even the worst part. As we walked out of the store a man walked in with what looked to be a 10-12 year old child with him. I waited to see what she was going to tell him and they ALLOWED him to purchase a bottle of liquor while he was accompanied by a minor and with no questions asked. When I called to speak to the manager regarding this she said "too bad, find another store if you don't like our rules". I am 30 years old and had ID to prove it but because I didn't bring it in the store with me, even though I WAS NOT making a purchase myself, they declined serving my friend. But a man walks in with a 10 year old and everyone turns a cheek. A joke, and horrible customer service. read more

There was no option for 0 stars, but best believe if there was, that is what I would be giving this establishment right now. First off, the prices are unbelievable. Secondly, the staff is absolutely incredibly rude. We were IDed, which seems normal enough, but our one friend didn't have hers, it was in the car. The cashier preceded to tell her to get it, which she was doing, when the cashier then said "the sign says all members of the party have to show ID", ok that's unreal, but fine. She then said "you could've read the sign on your way in if you don't like it", what's the attitude about?! Not only did the cashier go out of her way to be unnecessarily mean, the manager, not only sided with the cashiers ridiculous behavior, she then wouldn't serve us due to "our" apparent attitudes. Never would I give this place a dollar of my money. The service (which shouldn't even be an issue for a quick stop for a bottle of wine) was horrendous.
