They have a super tiny home section at the very back of the store, but the rest is fashion. I did not find a wreath, and the home selection was very sparse and limited. For a Saturday afternoon, there were only a few shoppers in the store. If your already in the mall. definitely poke around Marshalls, but if you want a greater selection, skip it and go to Winners or Homesense on the Merivale strip.

So this is the Marshalls in Merivale Mall. It's the second Marshalls that opened in Ottawa, the…read morefirst being at Trainyards (and the third recently opened at South Keys). It's my least favourite of all the Marshalls because selection is not great and they don't carry that many cool brands. That being said, I love all Marshalls so I still shop here. I have to admit that I was very surprised that Marshalls opened up in Merivale Mall. Merivale Mall is such a sad little mall in desperate need of revitalization. It's definitely cooler now that Marshalls is there, but I think it's still pretty lame (but this is not a review of Merivale Mall, so let's get back to Marshalls). Marshalls like Winners and other stores in the states like TJ Maxx and Ross Dress for Less, carries random brands in random styles and random sizes. I love this kind of shopping. It's like a treasure hunt. I don't like going into a store and there are racks of the same item arranged in ascending sizes 0-18, or the same shirt in 4 different colours stacked side by side. Boring!! I like the rush of finding an unusual piece that I haven't seen anywhere else and there's only one in the store and it's my size! Hurray! So this particular location doesn't have a "Red Carpet" section like Trainyards does. So no luxury brands like Moschino, Ferragamo or Fendi. They do have a "Contemporary Designers" section, so you'll see 7 for All Mankind, Paige, and brands of that ilk. And they regularly carry Tahari, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, etc. I love going to Marshalls for the European and Australian brands that they carry. Unfortunately, this location doesn't carry as many of them. Their shoe section is also relatively small (and they rarely carry size 5). Their handbag section is also not great, in my opinion. They carry lots of "regular bags" nothing quirky or fun, no purses shaped like a milk carton or a rotary telephone, lol. Although I think this last statement says more about me than the store, haha. Like all Marshalls, this store is big and bright. Staff are pleasant. While it's not my favourite Marshalls, it's still one of my favourite stores.

They had a good Halloween section with lots of affordable decorations, accessories, and a few costumes, mostly for kids. They also had Christmas items out, and the selection was also good. I was impressed by their toys and games section. I picked up a Funko Pop card game (The Mandalorian edition of Something Wild) for only $4. Some dollar stores only have cheap knock offs of games, but I saw real legit games that I've seen in game stores like Mastermind Toys and places like Walmart, albeit perhaps less popular games. I spotted a limited time Coffee Crisp flavour, too: Pumpkin Spice Latte! You know I had to try it, haha. Staff were pleasant and efficient, despite the long line up. Dollarama has come a long way in the last few decades Lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot.

Or even better is when you find food in ridiculously large sizes that end up lasting you at least up until a week after the suggested best before date. It was the latter that actually taught me as an adult that 'Best Before Dates' are just like the Pirate Code, they're more like guidelines. I've also found DVD sets of old shows that I remember watching from years ago but had no idea were ever released for home viewing because I honestly didn;t think anyone else but me watched them. Case in point Season 1 of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Land of the Lost (an after school staple for many years), Old School Denis the Menace cartoons, and Bordertown.

Their clothes are fairly low quality, but if you want an ugly Christmas sweater or something to make a Halloween costume out of, Giant Tiger will do. Their toys are mostly no name brands (like imitation Barbies and imitation Lego), but they do have some Squishmallows and other cute stuffed animals. Their housewares are not high end, but they have interesting items, like clocks where the hands are wrenches and screwdrivers, so cute for a workshop or something like that. Their grocery items are actually really good prices. Especially their sales. I've purchased boxes of Chapman's ice cream bars there for $1.99, and also a box of 4 Nestle Drumsticks for $1.99. I've purchased Pineapples there for $1. Staff here are friendly, the store is clean, and there's lots of free parking in the strip mall.

This is a Winners (which for my American friends is like a TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Ross Dress for Less, etc.) that is attached to a Homesense (like the houseware version of Winners). Unless it's a return from another location, you likely won't find any fashion-forward items here. I love Winners in general, and I still go hoping to score that awesome find one day, lol. The space is big and it looks like other suburban Winners (as opposed to the "urban concept" Winners or the quirkiest Winners I've been to which is the one on Front St in Toronto which is in the space of several converted row homes).
