Impeccable service here! I was on the hunt for a special pair of cuff links for my special guy's…read morebirthday, and a Yelp search revealed this spot not far from my 'hood. I decided to pop in on a whim and see what they had. I noticed a sign on the door that said they had a "work dog" inside, which immediately made me joyous. I was even happier that she (I think her name was Jazz!), was the sweetest, most calm dog ever and hung out with me while I shopped. The staff member (who I believe was the owner), was great at keeping her close by, but I made it clear that I welcomed her furry little presence! I was asked right away if I needed help and was led to their fantastic selection of cuff links. Thy source them out of the UK and I believe Texas. Their selection is plentiful - classy and quirky and tailored to all personality types. They have sports one and occupations and I ended up selecting an awesome pair of silver Lego pieces. I mentioned my boyfriend was an MMA trainer and he offered to order in some boxing glove cuff links for us - wonderful customer service! I also picked up a gorgeous Nautica tie (at half off!) and some super cool dinosaur socks for the birthday boy. They have an amazing selection of men's grooming products including beard grooming supplies, European razors and a whole wall of other goodies. They also carry a ton of fun and colourful socks and an insane amount of men's underwear (the second staff member is your go to guy for men's underwear. He admits to owning hundreds of pairs!). They also sell shirts and other accessories. If you're on the hunt for a guy who loves quality and individual gifts, stop by. The products were great but the staff were even better. Can't wait for an excuse to return!

I have gained a bit of weight of late - all those shawarmas is my guess! Anyhow, I had an interview…read moreand had to wear this old suit of mine that pinched my waste and really hurt. Plus, it was more of a summer suit and looked lame in this season. Anyhow, I decided after not getting the job to find a new suit to make me look sharp. My brother in law told me to check out Mondo Uomo. It is a European style shop, so the suit cuts were a little out there for me. But, what I loved was that if you buy a suit, you got the following for free - the shirt, a tie, a belt, socks and shoes. It truly is your one-stop shop for looking good.

After a day of visiting high end stores around the city looking for a full length winter coat and…read moreresigning myself to spending $1200.00 for what I wanted, I finally ended up at the Hunt Club store where the manager coaxed me into trying a three quarter length instead and it fit like a suit jacket. Completely turned me around on the full length idea. When I turned my attention to pants, I found only flat front which I've never cared for. A little more coaxing to try them out and I was sold on those as well but instead of buying just the pants I went with a solid color suit that I can mix with my current wardrobe. I've always purchased my clothing piecemeal which means often I wouldn't get around to matching a suit and shirt, tie etc.. and would never end up buying new shoes but with the suit deal I was sort of forced to put together an ensemble and it turned out to be just what I needed. I automatically assumed that my "look" needed to be the way it's always been because it doesn't go out of style but I completely changed my thinking on that once I realized that these styles can be trendy but also classic for the long term. Instead of spending $1200 for just a coat (mind you a beautiful cashmere coat) I ended up with a terrific coat, beautiful suit, Egyptian cotton shirt, tie, belt, socks and a pretty cool pair of shoes. Not bad. Four stars for now, once I've worn everything I'll update that.

I'm glad Ottawa has some clothing stores with styles outside the GAP, AE, Old Navy, etc. Not that there's anything wrong with those stores but they're pretty boring. Schad carries a nice balance of North American and European brands. The unfortunate thing about some of the North American brands is that they've been run into the ground since the Jersey Shore phenomenon! Brands like Ed Hardy and Affliction are carried here and unfortunately Dom Rebel (based out of Montreal) has been styling a lot of shirts like them recently. Some of the other brands that I'm glad they have include Diesel, Energie, Sand and J Lindeberg. It's not for everyone but I do get complimented regularly. I believe there is a slight mark up on these brands compared to some of the other stores I've been in that carry these lines in Toronto and Montreal but it's not that much and the store owner and the staff are super friendly and super helpful. To get an idea, Chantel (the store owner) once tried on a dress for me that I was purchasing for a friend to give me an idea of what it would look like while being worn! That's pretty damn awesome!

They have a cute kids table at the back for colouring, which I thought was very considerate and welcoming for families. Expect high prices here. I am always disappointed when boutiques have so many small sizes. Larger people like nice things and have money too ;) (just sayin')

Unique Accessories is a little store with some interesting items. They sell mainly hats,…read morefascinators, and costume jewelry. Their hats are cool, but I wouldn't say all that unique. The styles and quality are similar to Parkhurst hats. The fascinators are pretty but honestly, I've purchased the exact same fascinators on eBay for a quarter of the price. However, at the store you get them right away, while on eBay you have to wait for shipping. I never need a last minute fascinator, so I'm cool with paying less and waiting for shipping. I'm not a huge fan of costume jewelry, but if you are, you might find some statement pieces here. They do have some quirky handbags, like one shaped like a teapot or a car. However, the prices are really high for what I feel is not that great quality. They have scarves, broaches, and other accessories too. The store is a bit on the small side but it's full of merchandise, so it does look a little crowded. A nice place to poke around. I've only ever made purchases here during their sales. I find the regular prices too high for the quality.

I am very much a hat person and Must try things on before buying them - shape and size are a big part of it. While I am all over a good deal, I am also a big believer in "you get what you pay for" and if it's something you want to keep longterm, make it an investment. That said, I don't find the prices in this store unreasonable. My whole family is from the UK (I'm the Only Canadian) so hats come with the territory. Whenever we would cross the pond, picking up a good hat was always part of the trip, and let me tell you, they are Expensive! Unique Accessories offers fun hats and fascinators for a relatively decent price, and they are quite good quality - everything I have so far has stood up to the elements and become permanent pieces in my closet. The only other real hat store I have found is a tiny boutique in an office building in the market, where the Milliner makes everything from scratch and is therefor quite pricey (but again, you really get what you pay for - they are stunning) - I believe Mrs. Trudeau shops there too. As for the rest of the glitter and bling, it's quite fun and very colourful, but I must admit, I have only ever purchased headpieces. I will certainly be back, and I'm looking for an event to showcase my most recent acquisition!
