Enter Dallas Costume Shoppe. This place was recommended to me by a friend who went to find a costume for an event we were both attending, and suggested I check it out, because the prices were far better than at the Dallas Vintage Shop. I took an hour for lunch one day and hustled over there. The place is not well-kept by any means, but just by looking around, I realized that these people have been in business for YEARS, and those years have yielded them lots of work. There are costumes EVERYWHERE, mostly assorted by time period. I went looking for a black skirt and a petticoat, as well as an accessory for my head. The lady helping me was knowledgeable, and very prompt. I was in and out in under half an hour, with my rentals in tow. That's the gist of the business. It's strictly rentals only - no purchases. FYI - they take cash or checks only - no cards. I paid all of 17 bucks and some change for the skirt, petticoat, and hair accessory. Great deal! I am positive I will be back for my next costuming needs.

We happened to be at the mall to visit the MeowWolf next door; when I saw all the Squishables in the window, I had to go in! They had their display of their new line of "Squish Park" a summer collection only available in physical stores, so I had to buy one. They also had a whole wall of clearance (2 for $20), so I ended up with two more big plushies aaand some stickers LOL. The two staff members were really friendly and nice; they also seemed like fans of the brand. They helpfully gave us an additional bag for my leftovers from the food court because I was having trouble trying to juggle all my new plush friends and my meal/drink. Oh first world problems. But yeah, decent selection and so fun!

I placed an order through the app for in-store pickup and received confirmation that it was ready two hours before I arrived. When I got to the store, my order was nowhere to be found. After checking the pickup area multiple times, I asked an employee for help. Instead of trying to figure out what happened, I was repeatedly asked if I was sure I ordered from this location, if someone else had picked it up, and if I had actually received confirmation. Yes, I was at the correct store. Yes, I received the confirmation. No, nobody else picked it up. What bothers me most is the pickup system itself. Orders are placed in bins right by the entrance, and customers simply walk up, grab their order, and leave. You don't have to show an employee your order confirmation, scan anything, or verify that the order you're taking actually belongs to you. It's basically an honor system for prepaid merchandise sitting right next to the door. Unsurprisingly, my order appears to have been taken by someone else. Mistakes happen, but this feels completely preventable. The entire point of in-store pickup is convenience, and this was the complete opposite. As a frequent Michaels customer, I expected much better, and I definitely will not be placing another pickup order at this location.
