I ordered a propane fill-up online and thought I did everything right, but I didn't get the usual email confirmation. I forgot to make a followup call to check on this, and when I did, Spicer had no record of the order. However, Kris in the office got right on it, and despite the very busy demand for gas, I got my fill-up just before the big cold snap Saturday. I've found Spicer to be very responsive to our orders and have been great servicing our ventless gas fireplace and space heater as well as our tanks for heating and cooking. read more

This Company and its owner are a Fraud. If your choose to do business with them buyer beware. Due to their wealth, political affinations, and entitlement they believe and stand by the statement that they are NOT REQUIRED to ADHEAR to the CT Home Improvement ACT or any other Connecticut Law Building Code Statute etc. However, Case law not Spicer Law has been set in stone and although Spicer has force others to settle out of court and sign NDA's for explosions, oil leaks, damages, fires, multi year law suits, etc. Spicer is not licensed or Registered as REQUIRED by DCP. They sent unlicensed workers to my property, never finished the work, refused to finished, and caused installed hundreds of feet of gas lined not to manufactures specification. Which were then never bonded and grounded. The property nearly exploded. They have been well aware of all the damages which they have documented. Yet, they continue to peruse litigation to ruin my life, finances, and health. I AM ONE OF A FEW PROPERTY OWNER THEY HAVE DONE THIS TO. The below Case Law is one of Many that Spicer Gas wants to Ignore as they continue to defraud customers. New England Custom Concrete, LLC v. Carbone, 102 Conn. App. 652 (2007). "" For this proposition, the plaintiff relies on this court's holding in Avon Plumbing & Heating Co. v. Fey, 40 Conn. App. 351, 358, 670 A.2d 1318 (1996), that "[t]he purpose of the Home Improvement Act is to ensure that home improvements are performed by qualified people." The plaintiff's reliance on Avon Plumbing & Heating Co. v. Fey, supra, 40 Conn. App. 358, is misplaced. That case involved the applicability of General Statutes § 20- 428 (4), which provides an exemption from the writing requirements of the Home Improvement Act for services performed by "any person holding a current professional or occupational license . . . ." (Internal quotation marks omitted.) Id., 353 n.3. The question [*664] for the court was whether an exemption that permits licensed plumbers [***19] to enforce oral home improvement contracts also permits such an action by a corporation that employs licensed plumbers. Id., 353." This court's interpretation of the statutory exemption as including a corporate employer provides no authority for exempting the plaintiff in this case from the [**341] writing requirements of § 20-429. If every registered home improvement contractor were deemed to be a person holding a "professional or occupational license," this limited exception would swallow the rule. The plaintiff's proposed construction of § 20-428 (4) would not only be inconsistent with the principles generally governing remedial statutes; see Fojtik v. Hunter, 265 Conn. 385, 392-93, 828 A.2d 589 (2003); but would also be irreconcilable with § 20-429 (f), which unambiguously provides that failure to comply with subdivisions (6) and (7) of § 20-429 (a) makes a home improvement contract unenforceable. read more

Spicer is the absolute worst. They consistently wait until the tank is at 15% capacity and blizzard and freezing conditions before attempting unsuccessful delivery. They also outright refuse to give an estimated date for delivery, illustrating their complete apathy toward an 85 year old homebound widow in the dead of winter. There are many other reputable and highly rated propane providers with consistently glowing reviews in the area to choose from. read more

I tried every avenue with Spicer Gas to allow them to resolved issues as I do not like to leave negative reviews . We purchased a gas stove from them with installation at the end of August. They did not even show up for the first two dates they confirmed in October. No call, no show. The man who did the estimate asked us to modify and close off a window and charged us for copper piping extension. When the installer came out he said that the tank could not go in that area and it was unsafe. Our bill was updated to reflect a credit for the money it took to fix the window and modified to reflect the refund of the piping not needed in October, but they still continue to send us the old nullified contract. We failed two inspections with the town. They sent technicians and inspectors onto our property (we have 3 dogs) without notifying us or setting up a visit . The gas stove they sent us was described by their own technician as looking like it "fell out of the back of the truck and rolled down the road. It was missing major parts, has scratches and dings on all sides and the inside, the doors are missing a part to close them and stay ajar all the time, and twice when we called with issues, we were told to stop using it because it was unsafe. On Christmas day, there was a large explosion from the stove that shook the house and the technician came out the next day and said the pilot was pointing in the wrong direction causing large build ups of gas that could not ignite. We have sent pictures and emails documenting EVERY interaction to management. An install that was supposed to be two visits over two weeks took 12 weeks and 8 visits (mind you we constantly had to miss half days at work to accommodate installers and technicians sent out to fix the broken/missing parts) and we still do not have a new unit. We have had no response to our emails and photos documenting an old, broken stove. They continue to send a bill charging for a brand new stove (at best this may be a floor unit per the technician), and the old contract stating we are required to close off a window and charging us for copper pipe we did not need or use. I switched to another company after they did not show up after two calls to fill our gas and we ran out. I went with suburban propane and they have been amazing. I called Spicer a month ago to pick up their propane tank and have called three times since to ask them to come get it. It is still sitting in the front yard over a month later. This is fraud and I hope they take me to court for the balance so I can say this all in person. (PS I tried to resolved this all the way up to the top with no response). read more

Wow - this place is crazy. I submitted an order to get a gas fireplace installed with a gas line in January 2022. I am still waiting. I paid for 1/2 the order and four, five months later I am still waiting on just getting a gas line, equipment and service and they still do not have any answers for me. How can this be? The absolute worst service I have ever dealt with! We run out of propane regularly. Spicer is supposed to monitor the tank and fill as needed but they never do their job. We called days ago to remind them to refill the tank before the holidays but they were despondent. And when you call to tell them you are out of gas, they are cantankerous and belligerent. Never do they take responsibility. Perhaps the owner considers this a recipe for business success, but he needs to go back to school to relearn good, basic business practices. Really the worst! My experience with Spicer Gas goes back to 2007, and gratefully ended in 2022. The experience has been horrible. I wanted to bring gas to my home, as it was becoming available on my street in Pawcatuck. When I purchased the home, Eversource told me that it would take 8 weeks to set up service. Someone recommended that I consider propane (for a fireplace and stove) I called Spicer, they told me they could complete the installation in 2 weeks. 13 weeks later, and it was still incomplete. That was the beginning. Complete inability to follow through with expectations. There are so many difficulties that I can't begin. I wish Yelp was around when I first started to do my research, because it is very clear from mine, and others, this is not a company that I would recommend to my worst enemy. read more

I was a customer of Spicer for over 7 years. Never had issues until a week ago. I called on a Monday morning with a low tank and was told delivery would be in 3-4 days. Called back Thursday and was told I wasn't on the delivery route yet. Called Friday and was told it would be over the weekend. At this point I was down at around 10 gallons. Called Saturday and the answering service wouldn't contact the company because my tank wasn't completely empty. Called again Monday morning (a full week later) and was told I STILL wasn't only the delivery route and that if I wanted propane it would be a $300 emergency charge. Compounding the whole delivery problem was the completely "We could care less" attitude displayed by the office staff and dispatcher. At no point did anyone even ATTEMPT to be helpful. No "Let's see if we can..." or "Let me talk to..." NOTHING. Annoyance was probably the closest emotion. I called Uncas Gas and they showed up with new tanks and propane in 3 hours. I would give no stars bit not an option. my tank had a leak last year. i called and updated spicer they replaced tank and then tried to bill me for whole tank. my previous tank had been filled only 5 momths prior. they wouldn't credit me any money. they just don't expect me to pay for while tank. have tried multiple times to get them credit me part of tank. they have horrible customer service, they say person in charge will call and never has. two thumbs down read more
