JC Tefft Oil truly has some of the best oil prices in the state of Rhode Island, which is one of the reasons I chose them for my deliveries. I'm new to New England--I was born and raised in Minnesota--and I moved into my apartment in November 2025. I scheduled my first oil delivery with Tefft in December and paid $281 for 100 gallons. The process was smooth. A very kind representative (whose name I unfortunately didn't catch) helped me through email due to phone issues at the time. She collected my address, phone number, and payment information, and the delivery went perfectly. However, my second experience was the complete opposite. I emailed a request for delivery on Saturday, February 7th, and later reached someone by phone that same day. She scheduled me for February 11th-- the earliest available date--and told me she couldn't quote a price yet. She mentioned I could call the day before or day of to check the price, but she never said I needed to call back to confirm it. She verified the last four digits of my card, so I thought everything was set. On February 11th, no delivery arrived. My tank was still low, and I spent Wednesday night and Thursday morning playing phone tag. When I finally reached someone Thursday afternoon, the same representative told me she had never scheduled my delivery because I "didn't call back to confirm the price." At no point was I told that I had to confirm the price before they would deliver--only that I could call if I wanted to know it. I had clearly scheduled 100 gallons for February 11th and confirmed my payment information. Because of this miscommunication, I won't be using this company again. I understand the challenges during busy winter storms, especially for one person handling high call volume, but the lack of clear communication is unacceptable. I was able to schedule another delivery with them for tomorrow, February 13th, and she again confirmed the last four digits of my card. I'm hoping it actually arrives this time. Please consider hiring more staff--one person juggling all incoming calls for oil deliveries simply isn't enough. read more

Had the most unprofessional and insulting experience from a business. Had them over 8 years. They delivered oil to the wrong house on my property which left the house in need of oil. House had no heat. Temperature going to 10. Called to ask for delivery that day stating my pipes would freeze. Judy's response was "we will not deliver to your house any longer. Our driver didn't know what house to deliver the oil." I had given her distinct and explicit description of the house. Large house. The only one with a porch on the right side of the driveway. After coming for 8 years, now you do not know??? I told her that was not very nice of her as this is at 3 in the afternoon and I am not sure I could get someone new. She then hung up on me. They should not be allowed to be in business with that attitude and lack of service. read more

We have been happily using this oil company for probably seven years. They can be abrupt on the phone, but they come through with delivery at very good prices. The first time we used them was an emergency, never had prior dealings with them, and they came right away anyway. Filled the tank again this week in 48 hours without any hassles after just leaving a voicemail that we needed oil/not an emergency. read more

We have been with company for 16 years, don't know why? They are rude unreliable and out right unprofessional.Called to schedule a delivery and ask to fill just 100 gallons.Posted a note for the driver to confirm just the 100 gallons.The driver left without filling any oil.Call Tefft and they told me they had a policy of 125 gallons minimum.Obviously there isn't any communication between the scheduler in the office and the drivers, they could have call me back and tell me what the policy was.I call back and who ever works there, rude as ever and told me that was nothing they could do to right now. I HAD been a customer with these people for years until I got an oil bill that was $100.00 over what the actual price was. When I inquired about it I was met with white hot hostility. Anyone with 20/200 vision could see that there's a difference between a "5" and a "6" . Maybe they can hire drivers who can write clearly and office staff that can act like adults instead of hurt children. After using this company for over 10 years, i am extremely disappointed in their lack of service. I called 3 times for a delivery, yesterday. I finally got a call back 6 hours later. I asked for a delivery within 3 days, the woman told me they couldnt come for over a week. I explained I had been a customer for 10 years. The response was, " I dont care if you have been a customer for 10 years or 10 minutes, you are not getting a delivery this week". I have been using Tefft Fuel for about 5 years. Primarily because the cost is generally several cents a gallon cheaper. I have never had a problem. It is a cash business. When the driver arrives he is looking for the check. Often I will put the check in my storm door the night before just in case they arrive early. I would pass the business at 0630 AM and the truck were pulling out. If the check is not there, or you have not given the office your CC then you don't get oil. Not rocket science. Service is a second issue. I have never used them for service, because I do not believe they have service people on staff. I will call several days ahead of time so the staff can schedule my delivery. I generally allow several days for the delivery and in the winter months you have to monitor your tank level as the burn rate is higher. read more

I've been using JC Teft for a couple of years now. I was suppose to have a delivery yesterday and they didn't show up. When I called the next day they told me they couldn't get into my driveway. Come to find out they went to the wrong house! The woman who answered the phone told me I should find another oil delivery company, wow! What great customer service. Have been with Teft oil for 12 years . Called on a Tuesday and was told delivery for Friday 1/7/22 . We had 5 inches of snow that day . Came home from work at 3 and no delivery. I called and was told all delivery's were canceled the roads were to dangerous. I said yeah I went to work and know what the roads were like .. I made to and fro with no problems ... asked for Saturday if they would be here . Weren't sure .. and then she said the price went up .08 cents for tomorrow. I had scheduled a delivery for during the week but ran out of home fuel oil on the weekend. I called and left a message. Within the hour I got a call back then a second call back letting me know that a truck was coming, diverted off a regular route, to get me going. Freezing temps outside has me worried. Completely rude and disrespectful company. The receptionist is incredibly rude, and from other comments, I see that she rehearses the same line. No customer loyalty here. Bad service, bad at returning calls. In the midst of an emergency situation, they wouldn't even call me back, and we've been customers for years. After six years of being a Tefft customer we are very dissatisfied with their customer service. We were scheduled for a delivery Wednesday 26 December 2017 at the end of the day their truck backed in the drive way and then left without delivering oil. After repeated phone calls they returned our call to inform us that due to the location of our fill connection they would no longer deliver oil to our address the reason being their drivers have constantly complained about the long pull. I have been doing business with Tefft for about 9 years. I love them. Best prices in town. I leave a message for oil delivery and they call back that day with confirmation. During this recent cold snap, I was late calling for delivery and was about to run dry, my scheduled delivery was possibly going to be late due to a blizzard. I was panicking since my tank was running so low and most of the local gas stations were running low on diesel. Tefft showed up 2 days ahead of my oil delivery time - without me calling! read more

I have been using Tefft Oil for more than 20 years, as did my mom, and now my son. They have always done every thing to help me, and there have been times when weather has been bad. Very reasonable prices, and generally fast delivery. We have been getting our propane elsewhere, but after calling and receiving two deliveries from Teft, we were very pleased with their service and decided to continue using them. Often times during hurricane season, one can get caught by surprise and find you are running out of propane or fuel oil quicker than they thought. Especially where we live in the Hope Valley area, it is not uncommon for power to be out for several days, or even a week. It's nice to know that we can call them and get fast delivery, and reliable service. They have been the difference between running out of fuel, or continuing to run our home on generator power during unexpected long periods without power. Because you never know when power is going to go out to due to a storm, accident, or high winds knocking down trees and power lines, it's nice to have a company you can rely on to get you the fuel you need quickly and without problems. I have been a J.C. Tefft Fuel Oil customer for over 10 years. Never a problem with the company. Judy and Heather are wonderful and extremely helpful people, as are the Tefft oil delivery drivers. I'm on a budget plan with Tefft, and have generally had a credit balance with them. As a result, on the few occasions where I may have to be late (or miss) a monthly payment, they are willing to work with me. It's all about managing the customer experience. And, J.C. Not worth the price. The woman on the phone has never been pleasant. There service has always been shaky.. a day late, etc. Recently we ordered oil. When the delivery person showed up he did not knock on the door or ring the bell. I noticed he was walking back to his truck with out giving us our oil, and ran out into my drive way after him. He drove away. So we called the company, had to leave a message, when the awful woman on the phone called back she told us that is was our fault for not answering the door but her service men "don't have the time to knock on the door to deal with customers." She also told us we would have to wait a week to get service because she didn't want to send her driver back to us even though our appointment was today. Needless to say I will be finding a new oil company. I know the pricing is appealing but the shaky service is not worth the saving. read more

I used Tefft oil for a long time. We put in a new tank and told the driver the location and said to alert everyone not to use the old one. Well the next delivery they put the oil in the old tank but were not willing to pump it out, so I paid to have it pumped. I realized this might be partially my fault so I made sure it would not happen again. However no to long after that, the driver sprayed oil over my azalea bushes which killed them. The company would not replace or compensate me for the loss. The woman on the phone was extremely rude. I went to Sunrise and Ginger's oil after those incidents and both companies are professional and easy to deal with. read more

I have been using Tefft for around 4 years now and have nothing but good things to say. I have a credit card on account and they are always available and deliver on schedule. The only way that they can continue to be a low cost provider and be in business is not to chase bad debt/receivables and/or make deliveries where COD is not present. I am in the transportation business myself and understand the cost of missed deliveries. I have seen some bad reviews and suspect that many do not understand these basic principles.
